SOCAL - MY HIGH BETA NUMBER MAY INDICATE TWINS, AT LEAST I HOPE THAT IS WHY IT IS SO HIGH. I HAD A 5DT ON 8/26, BUT I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL 9/20 FOR THE 1ST U/S. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY I HAVE TO WAIT SO LONG AS IT GIVES ME MORE TIME TO WORRY. YOUR BETA SOUNDS LIKE A VERY NORMAL "ONE BABY ON BOARD" NUMBER.

YASMINA - KIM IS RIGHT; THEY ARE EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS WHEN TRANSPORTING SUCH THINGS. I HAVE QUITE A LOT OF EXPERIENCE IN THE TRANSPORTATION INDUSTRY & A BIT OF EXPERIENCE ARRANGING TRANSPORT OF LABORATORIES AND CRYORPESERVED BIOLOGIC MATERIAL FOR ONCOLOGISTS AND RESEARCHERS AT A UNIVERSITY IN THE MIDWEST. ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE DOCTORS I HAVE WORKED WITH ARE VERY PROTECTIVE & METICULOUS.

CHRISS - I NOTICE YOU HAVE THE FACTOR V LEIDEN GENE. I TOO AM A HETEROZYGOUS CARRIER OF THIS GENE. DID YOUR DOCTOR PRESCRIBE A TREATMENT PROTOCOL FOR THIS, OR DO THEY JUST PLAN TO MONITOR THE PREGNANCY & DETERMINE IF TREATMENT IS NECESSARY? JUST WONDERING.

WOW!!! WE HAVE SEVERAL LADIES IN AND AWAITING TREATMENT. THIS IS EXCITING! I CAN HARDLY WAIT TO START READING ABOUT ALL THE BFP'S!!! :D :D :D :D :D

Thanks Jen Babes, Chriss and Catheirne! And good luck to all of you.
Hope you get good donor information Jen babes.
Chriss, my husband has extremely low volume , not enough to freeze anymore, but thankfully we had some frozen from our first IVF 18 months ago that was left over and used that this time. We did ICSI.
Catherine, I had a little bit of OHSS, I gained 9 pounds overnight, but it went away within 4 days. Hopefully yours will go completely away soon.

Hi girls, good to hear from everyone.

LuAnne- I do have Factor V and they think that's what caused my miscarriage at 7 and 1/2 weeks. We had already heard the heartbeat and everything. What a sad time that was for us. ANyway, since the miscarriage in March, we've been TTC. We did two IUI's then said, let's just go to IVF now. I'm getting impatienet... it took so long to get pregnant that first time and then the miscarriage happened. We just wanted to get going again. I am now taking a bay aspirin a day and when I get pregnant, they will put me on an daily injectible blood thinner. What's the plan for you? How did you find out about factor v?

Love, you and I are on very similar time schedules. I am on day 4 of stimms. I think everyone reacts differently to the shots. I am also taking 450 units of Bravelle (Same as follistim) and 2 menopur each day . I don't feel much from it except a bit tired at times. But I hear all different things from people. I think the lupron was more annoying for me. I cried a lot on lupron. I'm not taking any lupron this time. They think it supressed me too much. I thintk that many of us feel that we are racing against the clock. I know that I do. I am learning to relax.

Catherine, you sound like you have a good attitude about work. It is unfortunate that your boss is behind the times. Give me a break. Do what's best for you and your family.

Amy, what's up with you? When do you get started?

Hi socal, jenbabes and everyone else I missed this time around.

I had my first sono since starting simms. It's very early and more follicles may show up. As of now I have five on the right side and two on the left. It's a little better than last time. But of course I am hoping for more. Don't want to sound greedy, just want to up the odds. I'll know more on Tuesday. HAve a great day everyone! Best wishes. Keep positive. Try to smile and I'll try real hard to take my own advice too. -chriss

IVF First timer and Clueless!

Post by kidake »

My first ER is scheduled for Sunday morning. I am 40 years old. Have been on Follistim and Menopur for 10 days and Lupron for 11 days. I was told that I have 15 total follicles (9 ranging from 20.5-9.5 and 6 below 9.5). My E2 level is 761. Isn't my E2 level low? Would that mean I would potentially have only 3-4 eggs? Any insight would be great! Thanks!

Welcome kidake - good luck with your ER today and your upcoming ET! Could you tell me, what is the E2 level and how & when did they check that?
Sending lots of positive thoughts your way!

I go back in on Monday for 2 more tests. Seems my B-12 level is too low? Anyone else have this problem?

Take care everyone and looking forward to reading about many more BFP's very soon! :D

Hope you are all having a very nice and relaxing Sunday.

Amy,
E2 is your estrogen level and they check it with blood tests throughout the cycle. I had my ER today. They got 7 eggs. We'll see what happens!

Hello everyone,

I’m reporting back from my holiday and it’s so good to be able to catch up with everyone’s news again. Hi to all the new girls here too!

LuAnne, Socal – well done! Congratulations on your BFP! Catharine – glad you are now recovering fast and you can start enjoying your pregnancy. I’m so pleased for you all and it’s very inspiring to have so many BFPs here on the over 40ies thread again.

Chriss – I’m pleased that you are looking on the bright side so soon after your BFN and are able to get going again. Sounds like you are making really good progress and your follie count is good. Don’t forget, quality is the most important thing. Keep up the PMA.

Yasmina – great to hear that you are getting to cycle again. Sounds like you are in good hands with your IVF doctor. How’s it going?

Jen – how are you getting on? Hope you are having enough rest. How long will it be after you start the E2 patches? Are you still getting headaches with the meds? I am so lucky not to have any side effects. The emotional side is enough to have to cope with all the time.
Thanks for all your hard work on our sparkly list. It really is about time I attempted an update too…

Amy – not sure about B-12 level. Good luck with your new tests tomorrow. Any idea you’re your next schedule will be? Looking forward to hearing your news cos I know you’ve had a long wait over the summer. Keep us posted.

We had a great time on holiday except for some bug I had in the first week and then passed on to DH so we were both not up to doing much sport. Still, I hope that means we won’t be getting ill with colds etc. again for a while. The injections have become routine but I’m starting to get very restless about the time schedule. I have a scan tomorrow and as soon as my lining is OK we will start the nerve-wracking wait for news about a donor which could come within days or after several weeks. I’ll be back at work tomorrow and have no idea how to juggle my work appointments so I’m determined to just try and keep a low profile and hope all works out when the time comes.

Best of luck to everyone presently undergoing treatment and HI to everyone else!

Bye for now
Love

AMY - ASK YOUR RE TO CHECK YOU FOR MTHFR, AN INHERITED GENETIC MUTATION THAT MAY INHIBIT ABSORPTION OF B VITAMINS, LEADING TO INCREASED RISK OF CLOTTING AND M/C, NEURAL TUBE DEFECTS, ETC. IT IS EASILY TREATED W/SUPPLEMENTAL FOLIC ACID, B6, B12, ETC. IN ADDITION TO YOUR REGULAR PRENATAL VITAMINS. SOMETIMES BLOOD THINNERS ARE ALSO USED.

CHRISS - MY PROTOCOL FOR THE FACTOR V IS THE SAME AS YOURS, ALTHOUGH THEY DON'T THINK THAT CAUSED MY PREVIOUS LOSS. I GUESS FACTOR V LEIDEN IS NOT UNCOMMON. OH THE GOOD NEWS ABOUT THE BLOOD THINNER IS THAT IT GOES IN THE BELLY, SO RATHER THAN A SORE THROBBING BUTT, YOU GET TO HAVE A SORE BURNING BELLY. IT'S REALLY NOT BAD. AFTER ALL, I'LL DO ANYTHING THEY TELL ME I NEED TO DO TO BE SAFE.

NOW, TO EVERYONE....YOU KNOW HOW THEY SAY, "BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR, BECAUSE YOU MIGHT GET IT!"? I WAS WHINING ABOUT HAVING TO WAIT UNTIL 9/20 FOR AN U/S. WELL, I WOKE UP W/SPOTTING SATURDAY MORNING & WAS TOLD BY THE DOCTOR ON CALL @ MY CLINIC TO BE EVALUATED AT THE E.R. (I COULDN'T GO BACK TO THE CLINIC AS IT IS 600 MILES AWAY.) ANYWAY, EVERYTHING LOOKED GOOD SATURDAY: CERVIX CLOSED, NO ACTIVE BLEEDING; JUST OLD BLOOD, GOOD BETA AND.....THEY CONFIRMED 2 SACS W/HEARTBEATS ON U/S. I WAS SENT HOME TO REST & AWOKE W/BLEEDING SUNDAY A.M. CALLED MY CLINIC AGAIN & THEY SAID IT'S PROBABLY NOTHING, BUT GET OB CARE ASAP! I WENT BACK TO THE E.R. & WASN'T TOLD MUCH AT ALL...CERVIX WAS STILL CLOSED, A SLIGHT TRICKLE OF BLOOD, NO U/S DONE, HSG WAS UP A BIT HIGHER, PROGESTERONE WAS 16, BLEEDING STOPPED W/IN 6 - 8 HOURS. FINALLY, I WENT TO THE O/B THIS A.M. AND WAS TOLD THERE ARE STILL 2 HEARTBEATS, WHICH IS ENCOURAGING, BLEEDING IS "SUBCHORIONIC" & MAY OCCUR AGAIN, THOUGH HOPEFULLY NOT. THE OB SAID THAT A PROGESTERONE LEVEL OF 15 IS "ADEQUATE", BUT HE WOULD PREFER IT BE OVER 20. SINCE MINE IS ONLY 16, I BEGIN PROMETRIUM SUPPOSITORIES TONIGHT. I WANTED TO TOUCH BASE W/THIS LATEST DEVELOPMENT & ASK FOR YOUR THOUGHTS & PRAYERS, AS WELL AS ANY INFO, INSIGHT, & EXPERIENCE ANY OF YOU MAY HAVE ON THE "SUBCHORIONIC BLEEDING", PROGESTERONE LEVEL, ETC. THANK A LOT. NOW, OFF TO REST I GO...

LuAnne,

Congrats!! I called it, twins!!!!! Regarding the progesterone, my RE had me take progesterone shots in the butt until week 12. He said that with the suppositories, there is no way to tell how much actually gets absorbed.
I can't remember my progesterone levels, but they were always on the high side. You may want to ask about them.

Regards,
Tammy

Luanne, just want you to know that I am thinking of you and your twins (wow!) and hoping everything is going well with you and that your situation is getting better. Rest, take care of yourself and keep up the PMA in this trying time of your pregnancy. Thanks ever so much for thinking of me at this time when you have so much on your mind, and passing along the MTHFR info. I will look into that. Is this something you have had to deal with in the past?

Hi to everyone else! Do hope you are all progessing well with your treatments and pregnancies!

Good-day to all-
Congrats LuAnne: Twins :D

Socal I wish mine had lsted 4days, mine was 4 weeks. Thankfully, I seem to have crossed that hurdle successfully. I'm back down to my proper weight. :D I have a touch of nausea after eating. My tastes have changed including taste buds. Many tastey foods taste bland to me now :( I've started to carry soda crackers with me just incase. I also find it hard to add 300 cal to my daily diet. My tummy just isn't that big. Now that I'm through this crisis I'm starting to get anxious about watching little peanut grow. Silly isn't it? I'm so excited on one hand and want to begin planning lots of things, but then the voice of reason steps into my head, wait a few more weeks to be sure everthing, you and the baby are healthy.

Wishing all the ladies in treatment all the best. keep up the PMAs.
Thinking positive thoughts for those awaiting tmt.

Everybody is so sweet and kind with wonderfull advice, an inspiration to all :D I guess I've got another preg symptom, emotional :D

Take care all.

TAMMY - I AM ALREADY DOING THE IM PIO SHOTS. THE OB SAID HE WAS ADDING THE PROMETRIUM AS "INSURANCE". HE DID SAY, HOWEVER, THAT PROMETRIUM CAN BE TAKEN ORALLY OR VAGINALLY, BUT HE WOULD PREFER I DO IT VAGINALLY, AS TO BETTER ABSORB IT. I GET MY LEVEL DRAWN AGAIN ON SATURDAY, BUT DON'T GO BACK TO THE OB UNTIL MONDAY. I SURE HOPE IT GOES UP TO WHERE HE WANTS IT.

AMY - I DO HAVE MTHFR, BUT I DO NOT HAVE ELEVATED HOMOCYSTEINE LEVELS, WHICH IS INDICATIVE OF THE PROBLEM W/ABSORBING B VITAMINS. JUST TO BE SURE, I AM TAKING SUPPLEMENTAL B VITAMINS, BECAUSE THERE IS NO HARM IN DOING SO. THE (DAILY) REGIMIN I AM ON, IN ADDITION TO MY PRENATAL VITAMIN, IS 200mg VITAMIN B6, 250mcg VITAMIN B12, 1mg FOLIC ACID. I ALSO TAKE 81mg ASPIRIN & 40mg LOVENOX SubQ, BUT I ALSO AM HETEROZYGOUS FOR FACTOR V LEIDEN. BOTH FACTOR V LEIDEN & MTHFR ARE INHERITED GENETIC MUTATIONS, OR THROMBOPHILIAS, AS THEY MIGHT RAISE THE RISK OF CLOTTING, ESPECIALLY DURING PREGNANCY. HETEROZYGOUS JUST MEANS I ONLY HAVE ONE COPY OF THE MUTATION (FROM ONE PARENT). HOMOZYGOUS CARRIERS HAVE 2 COPIES OF THE MUTATION, OR ONE FROM EACH PARENT, AND THAT IS RISKIER. SOME DOCTORS DO NOT BELIEVE IN TREATING PREGNANT WOMEN FOR THIS, BUT MOST BELIEVE IN DOING SO, ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY ARE KNOWN CARRIERS. THERE IS BELIEVED TO BE NO RISK IN THE ADDED B VITAMINS, AND ONLY AN ACCEPTABLE RISK W/BLOOD THINNERS. I SUSPECT THEY BELIEVE THE POTENTIAL BENEFITS FAR OUTWEIGH ANY RISKS.

CATHERINE - I AM WITH YOU ON THE ADDED CALORIES. I NORMALLY HAVE TO CONTROL MY APPETITE, BUT I DO NOT SEEM TO HAVE ONE NOW. I HAVE NO NAUSEA, JUST NO APPETITE. ON TOP OF THAT, I'M SUPPOSE TO ADD EVEN MORE CALORIES FOR TWO! I GUESS THE BEST THING WE CAN DO IS MAKE THE CALORIES WE DO CONSUME COUNT BY WAY OF NUTRITIONAL CONTENT.
