Quintuplets!!!

Post by JCmama »

Hi, I just found out the 4 placed embri's all took, and a split ucccured. OMG We were not prepared for this! (Especially since 0 out of 3 was previous) The doctor highly recommends selective removal for the health of the babies and myself. There may be a chanse some may not stay. We will see in 2 weeks how they are all doing. I am so full of emotions!

Thanks Malinka,
I am excited yet terrified. I might have to do a selective process purely for the health of the babies. It will be extremely difficult either way. We'll see at my next appt.

Anyone have to deal with this issue?

WOW!!!! Jen~ that is amazing! 5 is a lot to think about and I'm sure you and DH will make the right choices for you and your family. We were fortunate to not have to deal with this but I am sure it is heart wrenching to think of losing any regardless of what is best. I hope the answers present themselves clearly to you and that all is well. Good luck to you and DH. We are all here for you when you have any concerns.

Take care and congrats on a BFP!!!

OMG that must have been a shock! Congratulations. I don't know if this will help but here is a link to a blog by a couple in Texas who gave birth to quints this week http://wilkinsonquints.blogspot.com

Their doctor has delivered a number of quints successfully and if nothing else, there is a lot of information about diet, etc to ensure all babies get the best start.

Although I can't offer any advice, I wish you good luck with your decision.

Hi Jen
Congratulations on your BFP.
It seems cruel that after everything you have been through you have to make a difficult decision. Perhaps there will be a natural reduction over the next few weeks. My first Chlomid cycle my doc forgot to tell my DH and I to abstain and we had 6 eggs released. My doc explained that in the unlikely event that all 6 fertilised and implanted, i would definately need a reduction. That would have ensured the healthy delivery of 2 babies instead of the high risk of many multiples.

I wish you every luck in the world. No one here will judge you in your decision. I fully understand that whatever your decision, you will do what you believe will give your babies the best chance of survival.

Good Luck

Thank you everyone!

I've decided I can't worry about making any decisions right now until I see what happens. We may not need to make any choice.

I'll let you know what happens next week....

To make our decision easier/harder depending on how you look at it... All are doing well with growth and heartbeats. We will be going to a specialist soon to discuss all the details and then make a decision. This is probably the most difficult decision we will ever make!

I haven't told anyone at work and I'm growing so fast. I'm afraid to say something so soon because anything could happen...I'm only 8 wks. I can't fit into my regular clothes already.

Congratulations! I wish you and your husband the best...tough decisions for you, but healthy babies and a healthy mom are top priority...whatever you must do just know you are doing it for the right reasons!

There's a good article that ran in the NYTs on de-selection in the past 4-5 months...there is a clinic on the upper East Side that does it...apparently, it's quite common that more than 2 or 3 stick...I had not realized that.

Best of luck to you, and congratulations on your pregnancy!

Congratulations. Hope the babies are doing fine.

Recommend reading chapter 12 & 13 of this book: Everything Conceivable by Liza Mundy.

Hello there!

Congratulations on your BFP-BFP-BFP-BFP-BFP! :D You might want to chat with Rikiree... she had quads and went through the emotional rollercoaster of natural reduction and also had to consider selective removal at some point. She might have good advice to give you.

Either way, good luck with your babies and I'm sure whatever happens will be for the best, either way. I'll keep you in my thoughts!
