grade"B" embies- any luck?

Post by unexplained infertility »

Dear Girls,

I had my ET on 9/13/07. The date is not lucky already. it was a day 3 transfer. I had only 2 embryos, 7 & 8 cell and both were grade 3 out of 5 . Has anyone had a transfer of not-perfect quality embies with any success? I am just losing hope...

Hi! Well...guess what, I am in the same boat as you! I only had 2 embryos..out of 17! 1 was a B with only 5-6 cell and the other was a C with 6-7 cell, some fragments.

I wont find out until next week, but girl I hope they are good!!

I can tell you that I read under a different forum (this message board) 2 different ladies, who had babies....

One lady had 3 D's & 1 F transferred..one of them took & split!!! SHE HAD TWINS!! Another had a 3 day c but I think it was like 8 cells (more than me) and she too had baby!

Like the girls on here told me..THINK POSITIVE!!! Their is hope!!! It will be a long wait - by this time next week I will know....but I must remain positive! You should too!!!!

HEY!! I am from Chicago too!! Where did you go, if I can ask? I went to oakbrook Fertility Center

Hi there,

I had 2 grade B morulas transferred in 2003 and one of them was fragmented. Not sure which one took, but one of them became my beautiful now 3 year old little girl!!!

We are sort of on the same schedule. I had my retieval on the 13th and I get my ET tomorow. I had 5 eggs that fertilized and am anxious to see how many made it to transfer day.

Sending you all kinds of baby luck!!!

Kelley77-
Thank you for the info. So there is hope...How to stand the next 10 days though?
I am already going crazy.
I go to Univ of Illinois at Chicago fertlity center. This is my 2nd ivf. I had even worse quality embies (2 out of 5) the first time. I didnt want to know this time and they told my hubby only, but I insisted on him last night to tell me and he did. It completely put me down. I hardly slept.
Keep me posted what turns out next week on your end. I wish you the best of luck.

Any ideas on how to improve egg/embryo quality? I read something last night about taking melatonin with your hcg. I eat healthy, exercise, avoid stress, have accupunture and only a small improvement during the 3 months between my ivfs and I am 31, TTC for over 3 yrs.

Rotobay-
Thank you. It is nice to hear that it is possible to get pregnant and have a healthy child from a non grade A embie. Good luck on your transfer. Let me know how it went.

Ladies -
I just went to my RE on friday for follow up, after two failed IVF's, and we were discussing embryo quality. Basically, he said embryo quality is not a good factor to look at. You could have poor quality which result in a pregnancy and you could have great quality that doesnt result in pregnancy.

So please dont focus on that because it is not determinative of your embryo becoming a pregnancy. The more important factor is the genetic makeup which they cant really test.

So hang in there! Good luck to you all!

Tricias2007,

That is good news. So there is a chance...Although there were some studies confirming that grade A embrios result in a pregnancy more often that those of grade b :(
Too bad they cannot test the genetic makeup, at least we would know up front whether we are going to have a baby or not. Those years of not knowing are just killing me...

Hi girls though tI might chime in I had 2 grade B eggs transfered my ER said that although grade A is the best they only see those embies about 10% of the time therefore majority of the pregnancies that come out of there clinic are from grade B embies. They must be doing something right because I am pregnant on my first try!

Unexplained You actually can test the genetic make-up of the embryo's. It is called PGD. PGD however (at my clinic) cost's about $5000 USD - so as you can see it is not cheap at all...I have read some post's on here of woman who have done it.

Also, keep in mind that what an A grade to one Dr. might just be a B+ grade to another...there are no "official" standards as to what constitutes the grade. In fact, some grade with a scale of A-F & others 1-4, while 1 being the best, and others say 4 is the best. Then..you have some Dr.;s who don't give grades at all.

With fragmentation...what one says is moderate, another might think is severe, and vice versa.

I truly would not focus solely on the grade. Most woman on here would love to a have B grade embie..and some woman who have A grades, don't go on to have a baby at all.....

At this point, it is out of our control....whatever is mean to be..is.

Think positive and keep yourself busy until the big test day!

Best Wishes!!!

Unexplained,
I've now had about 6 or 7 grade A embies transferred back on different attempts & no BFP yet. And we have primary diagnosis of male factor, I'm supposedly healthy.
Lots of times I'm reading on this MB about less than perfect embies making practically perfect babies. So I would keep hopeful if I were you. If the embies were still viable to be transferred there's always hope. I think there are just so many factors that come into play, it's a miracle when it happens AND fortunately it's a miracle that happens many times a day to many different women.
Best of luck to you & take good care of yourself,
2ndtimer :)

Aliann09,
I am weirdly glad that only 10% of embies in your clinic are "A". It makes me calmer (strange?). Congrats on your pregnancy!

Kelley77,
Looks like you did a lot of reading...i am searching to find out more about PGD now. By grade "B" i mean generally not perfect embies (mine were actually grade 3 out of 5 :() Sometimes it is better to know less. I didnt want to know about my embies when we had the transfer and I felt much better then after I convinced my hubby to tell me.

2ndtimer,
Good luck to you too and let's get BFP for once! Are you in the middle of a cycle now? This is my 2nd IVF, let's see. 8 more days, if not counting today.

hold off on Melatonin

Post by Rudy »

I was told by others not to take melatonin b/c it's associated with infertility - and not safe to take...I took it to help me sleep. Did you hear from anyone else on this...?
