Brown spotting

Post by Jane37 »

Hi Ladies,

So excited to have my BFP but have a little brown spotting. Is this normal? Should I worry?

My Chinese doctor wants to prescribe me just herbs for the next eight weeks (I trust her completely, I'm sure that her herbs are the reason for our BFP). My fertility clinic wants to give us progesterone but Chinese doctor says no and she can balance things using herbs. I really don't know what to do :? Anyone help?

Thanks,

Jane

They say spotting is normal with implantation... Are you currently on progesterone? In the US, we start progesterone before the ET stage (I am assuming you are in Germany). I heard the more progesterone the better! I know it can't hurt.
Do what your IVF physician recommends. I would go with the Traditional Medicine from here on out. You need the progesterone, as it will support your pregnancy. Is not taking it a risk you are willing to take?

Being a big chinese medicine supporter (as an adjunct therapy)... no offense, Chinese Medicine did not create IVF and therefore stick to the guys advice who know, IVF.

Good luck to you and may you make the best decision to support your BFP.

Hi Jane,

I've had some light spotting off and on the last week myself (I'm in my sixth week). From what I've read and heard, it seems that light, brown spotting is fairly common in early pregnancy. My nurses said not to be concerned with brown blood, as long as it wasn't too heavy. Red blood is a different matter entirely - that is a cause for immediate concern.

In my experience (at least so far), light spotting hasn't been a problem. My first U/S happened right around the time of my heaviest spotting, and everything looked fine.

Of course, it's wise to discuss any bleeding with your doctor - but hopefully it's no big deal for you either.

Good luck!

Listen to your fertility doctor.

Frankly, you wouldn't have needed the fertility doctor if the Chinese herbs
had actually worked...

So don't waste your money or time on the herbs, and take the progesterone.

Congratulations on your BFP. I also had brown and sometimes pink spotting during my first trimester. It was horribly nervewracking but no harm done.

I agree with the other ladies in that I would follow the IVF dcotor's advice on the progesterone. It is a pretty standard supplement after a BFP and doesn't seem to do any harm, you may well need it to support the pregnancy!

Good luck

Thanks for the advice ladies.
I now think that the progesterone is a good idea even though the spotting has stopped, I guess I just needed to hear that it is normal. We talked to the doctor this morning and here in Germany they give progesterone as standard after any treatment. We were very lucky to get a natural BFP between treatments which is what threw me a bit :D But I'm going to do everything I can to make sure this baby makes it :D
Take care,
Jane
