The Awaiting Treatment thread is great if you are interested or if its a donor you are using, The Eggheads

Emma

I am hoping you can give me some inspiration. If i've calculated it correctly, this is your 10th attempt and i too, have had 9 goes, a similar mixture of fresh, frozen and abandoned attempts.

we are awaiting our follow up from our most recent -ive and are unsure if we can face another go. We have been told repeatedly that there is nothing wrong with me, i have been pregnant twice (the first I aborted at a young age - if i'd only known what lay ahead! - and the second was a chemical pg on one of our attempts) and to have another go.

What has helped you get ready for this attempt? are you doing anything differently?

Hope you can inspire me! Sending lots of luck and admiration your way!

I think in my case it is shear subbornness that has kept me going and the thought of never having children fills me with such dread that stopping has never been an option!

I had an etopic pregnancy in 2002 and it was then that they found out that my other tube was structurally abnormal, i had my right tube taken out with the etopic and my left was removed so that i could start IVF, apparently it was a hydro somthing or other and this can be detrimental to IVF??

So there is actually nothing wrong with us other than me having no tubes, so we thought that first time it will work - how wrong were we! and no 5 years later we are still no more forward!

Luckily we have been funded by the NHS up to know but our hospital only has a 12% success rate, which isn't that good!

the more treatment i have the harder it is to see pregnant woman and not feel bitter towards them, i spoke to one woman today at work who told me that she was devistated that she was having a baby girl as she really wanted a boy? she said that she cried and everything when they told her at her scan as she was so disapointed?? WHAT?? stupid cow! LOL

Fingers crossed that this time is the right time for all of us!

Hi Emma, how did your appointment go today? are you on your way. How have you managed to get so many funded on the NHS? we reached the top of the list in january fir our one free go, only for our health trust to suspend all funding until April 2008. I'm not a happy bunny as i will be 39 then, so we are paying out of pocket again, i am just thankful we can.
Your clinics success rates pretty poor, is there another clinic you could use? or are you stuck with it due to funding.
speak soon

I'm a 5th timer, had FET on 13th September, results due 30th.

Whats drives any of us on... I remember reading a post from a lady who was on her 11th attempt. She said you know when to give up - when you feel too old or financially incapable.

At the beginning of this journey I never felt desperate to have children, I just wanted them. However, with each failed attempt comes a new sense of urgency (particulalry as I'm 40 now).

However, I am encouraged by how many older women are having children nowadays. 40 isnt 40 any more and medical advances give many of us more hope as each year passes. Longer children bearing years are certainly in our favour.

Its difficult understanding why we fail. My tubes are blocked, but apart from that every thing else has been tested as good working order - environment, eggs, sperm. So every attempt you try different things like accupuncture, eating certain foods, you search this site and other information for anything that might give you the edge over the previous attempt, but the reality is you just dont know.

We have never told our family about our IVF treatment, we have heard so many stories where it becomes the total focus of everyones life - potential grand parents, uncles, aunts etc. Its disappointing enough to cope with the failure without having to deal with the upset and constant questions from loved ones. Everyones different, but as the failures stack up I'm really glad I only told close friends who offer the full support without so deep emotional ties.

I wish all of us patience and perservence to achieve our dream, and the strength to deal with the outcome should we have to face a different future to what we had planned.

Hi Emma, hope your doing ok, I had my day 21 on Friday, and they think i have a cyst so i am back tomorrow to check, hopefully all will be ok and i can get going.
I wish i lived in the manchester catchment, when i first went on the list it was 2 goes, then our health trust merged and it went down to one. and they count FET as your go, so you have to pick carefully your best option.
Hope your feeling ok, and getting plenty of rest and pampering.

China, How are you? sorry i only just saw your post, i hope you got good news? I am with you no family knew, then last summer after my first failed attemt, i cracked and told my mum, who told my sister!!! not good. But we cope ok, but no one else knows, and it can be difficulkt as my FIL works for us and we have all these funny days off for clinic appointments, but they never say anything to us, but do discuss it with other family members, we just play stupid!!!

take care all, and sticky baby dust to us all
