I just had a routine saline U/S yesterday afternoon, getting ready to hopefully start another IVF cycle. The MD said my uterus was perfect but one of my fallopian tubes seemed to be blocked at the end. It filled up with saline. I've had so many of these tests before I've lost count & never had a problem. Also had 2 HSG's in the past where my tubes were completely clear.
Now I'm told that I need another HSG after AF arrives. If it shows the same blockage then I'll need laproscopic surgery to tie off my tubes before we can proceed with another IVF. I can't beleive that I'm being told I may need to get my tubes tied before I can get pregnant. This is all getting so discouraging. I think Im a little in shock.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Can a blocked tube unblock on it's own?
Since my MD had never seen this blockage before, he said maybe it was caused by my last FET cycle???
I still have a crampy pain from the saline U/S yesterday which makes me think something must be wrong.

so sorry that you have had another blow of bad news, just as maybe a little bit of hope - i had my right tube removed 3 years ago and was told that my left tube wasnt great - however i conceived our darling son 2 weeks after it was removed and he is now a very healthy toddler
fingers crossed for you

2ndtimer, I am so sorry to hear of your news. I can't believe that is happening so soon to when you were going to try again. Let's hope that the tube clears and that everything works out fine. Why do they have to do surgery if you are going to do IVF anyway?
Let us know how things turn out! I'll be thinking of you!

hi there new to this...i had both of my tubes removed in july due to the reason they build up with fluid and can wash away the embryo and the ivf would be washed down the drain so instead of ricking that our best bet was to have them removed.....i start the lpron inj on sat very excited:)
Question for you......I have only 1 tube & it is blocked and am worried that will affect implantation (when I do dedcie what I'm doign next for tmt)......is there a test to find out if the tube is leaking fluid into the uterus??
Did your health insurance cover the tube removal since it was not life threatenting? My ins does not cover anything related to infertility, so I'm not sure if I would have to for this out of pocket? Or, if my reg. gynie could code it a special way to get coverage.
2nd timer- sounds like your doct is doing the right thing. From what I've read on several websites, Melinda is corect, the tube can leak toxins that can wash away the embie. So, best to get it out of the way since you do not need it for ART techniques. Keep us posted!!
Bye- Julie

Sorry Melinda-- let me add b/c not sure if I posted my question in a manner that is understandable....
I'm aware of the test to find out "if" the tube is blocked...just not sure how / if there is a way to find out if it is also leaking? I better add that to my list of questions for my doct when I meet with him again 10/4.
Txs!

Hi Ladies,
Thanks for all the responses. I've had some time now to process the info & I guess I'm feeling a little less panicky. I'll let you know how the HSG turns out. There's always still a chance that I won't need the laproscopy but if I do & that's why the 2 IVF's & 2 FET's haven't worked then it's a small price to pay.
Actually it might be a big price to pay. I'm also not sure if it will be covered by insurance. I'm pretty sure it will be. On most policies infertility is not covered BUT what that really means is that IUI & IVF are not covered. Testing & other treatments usually are because there's no way to flag them in the system(I'm a nurse for a major insurance company.) Everything get billed with codes -if that code can only be something that is used for infertility like IUI or IVF, then it kicks out for review & probable denial. But I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.
JulieC -I would think that the HSG would also be able to test for a leaking tube.
Thanks,
Rebecca
OK, here's a follow-up on the insurance ?. It occured to me that it was silly to just sit here & worry about it & not check.
The procedure is tubal ligation. It should definitely be covered. With my insurance it is covered whether or not it is right after a delivery or whenever. It's not reviewed. You should be able to check online at your insurance co's website. Look for medical policy on tubal ligation. Or call the customer service # on the back of your insurance card.
Also, before having any procedure always have the provider call & verify benefits & tell you if it's covered.
Hope that helps,

hi there...and thanks for makeing me feel welcome....when i had my tubes removed everything was covered!!!!!im sure they just say it was nessery and did not say anything about for the ivf....i knew there was something wrong with a lot of cramping in my stomach and actuall fluid coming out but not all the time...when i talked to the dr they said it was like a water ballon and when it got full they leaked out and it also relived a lot of pressure!!!
Txs so much for the feedback. Yeah, tubal ligation.....I was on brain freeze. I will ck with ins, but I think you are correct.....it s/b covered. That is fairly common.
Melinda- good luck with the stims on 9/22. So, ET when? Is this your frist go around with IVF?.
2nd timer-- keep us posted on your progress.

I also want to wish you the best of luck Melinda! I should have said that before but I was a little caught up in my own world. IVF can be a really stressful process but just remember to take one day at a time, dont get ahead of yourself & start thinking about all the what if's. Try to take time each day to just pamper yourself a little & relax. Get some good books & aromatherapy candles. Also check out some of the cycle buddies threads if you haven't already. It really helped me. My first IVF I hadn't discovered the site yet, I really wish I had. The support from others is wonderful.
You mentioned cramping before they fixed your tube problems. I've had mild cramping since the saline U/S on Monday. I never had that before so I'm thinking maybe there is a problem.
JulieC -best of luck to you too. What is your next step?
And thanks for the encouraging words Lulos.

Not sure what next stpes are. Having a follow up with doct 10/4.
90% going to Czech Republic for IVF. I have to try one more time. If that does not work, then donor egg / IVF in Czeh.
Have spoken to many gals that went to Czech for both---all had very positive things to say. They have been doing ART since 1982 and have a great clinic.
We are self pay and another $12,000 in the US is a lot based on my poor repsosnse the first time. Not that it is all about $$, but you can't rasie a kid in the streets right? We can't go broke trying for the elusive "good" eggs.
Take care-Julie
