Ob-Gyn with Experience with IVF Pregnancies

Post by tsdon »

My wife had IVF and we have had great HCG beta that so far shows she is pregnant. We couldn't be happier for now but know the first trimester is a long road with its own worries.

Anyway, we don't believe our OB doc has had many IVF baby deliveries plus my wife has POF. Question: Is it critical that we find a OB dr that has had many IVF patients and maybe experience with POF? I wonder if there are special medical considerations (every night she takes an estrogen pill and I give her a shot of progesterone).

thanks for any advice.

Ob for IVF

Post by karno1 »

HI!

Its been my experience that the OB who will continue care after you are through with your RE (its typical here where I am to stay with your IVF specialist for 12 weeks) will contact your RE proior to changing/stopping any supplemental medications your RE has prescribed. ONce the placentas attach on babies in utero, there really isn't anything special that an OB does differntly than a RE>

good luck and congrats on BFP

The pregnancy should not be different than any other one, once your wife is off of the medications she is taking (ie: Progesterone, estrogen)...so I wouldn't worry...

In general, your wife should just fill her OB in on her care, what meds, if any, she's still on...her IVF doc will do many blood tests as he eases her off the progesterone and estrogen (if she is indeed taking those to maintain the pregnancy)...and a good OB should be comfortable with IVF...IF he/she is not, then shop around for a new one...but I think a normal OB should be ...

Sorry, I do not know what POF is...

AND....Congratulations!!!! You must be thrilled...
