Fluid in Kidneys?

Post by karno1 »

hi!

just had my 20 week u/s and one of the twins ahs some small fluid in the kidneys. Doc wasn't overly concerned, but wants to keep an eye on it. Anyone know what the significance of this is and what could happen?

TIA!

I had the same on our level II U/S. Freaked us out and DR really pushed getting a amnio, which we really didn't want to do. But all the research I did was not consistent with being concerned. This is very common and found in 50% of all U/S, 95% of the time it clears it's self up by completing it's growth (usually a block in the tubes running out of the kidney). .02% of these cases result in a life threatening condition. If the condition does not go away it can be fixed with surgery after birth. My biggest concern..for me...was that it's a marker for downs and other genetic conditions, but since we had no other markers we decided it was not worth the amino risk.

I am glad to hear your information. All of our tesing was negative for genetic problems, so I am not overly concerned, just wanted to know others are OK out there with this possible poroblem :-)

best of luck to you!
