Any experience of ectopic symptoms?

Hi

I just wondered if anyone had had any experience of symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy. I have recently discovered that I am pregnant naturally. I have had one child through IVF and had been told that the chances of me conceiving naturally were virtually impossible due to blocked tubes but it seems that something has happened and a recent HSG has either cleared one or it cleared itself somehow.

I am now 5wks and 1 day and waiting to be sent a scan date but am really worried that it could be ectopic. I know it will be at least another week before the scan which isn't long I know but it does feel like it!
So far I don't think I've had any signs apart from on the day my period should have started and the day after a very small amount of light brown spotting (about 3 times in total.

Hi Vicky!

I had an ectopic pregnancy a couple of years ago - I had no idea I was pregnant (this was pre-treatment). I started my "period" (or so I thought) but was still bleeding about 10 days on. I also had the most amazing "period" pains - spent a couple of days curled up on the sofa cuddling a water bottle. eventually went to docs and discovered the ectopic.
I hear these are classic symptoms - heavy bleeding and stomach pains (and I mean PAINS - not cramps!!)

Thanks so much for your response - that really does make me feel better. I suppose after all the hastle we went through to have Ollie I just can't believe that I could be pregnant naturally and that it could all be okay!

Hi Vicky,

I unfortunately have had 2 ectopic pg's. One in 1993 in which my tube was saved and another in 1996 in which I lost my left tube.

The first one I simply missed my AF, went to doct, and found out it was ectopic. I had no signs when I went into the doct.

When I had the ectopic in 1996 it was very weird...like Cla. I thought I started my AF (as I track it each month since I was 12) .....it started on time and it kept going. I would wake up at night with stabbing cramps in my right side. Again, since I was still having what I thought was AF, I was thinking other issues had to have been going on. I went to my doct, and they wanted to do a pg test....I remember saying, "no, I'm having my AF, I can not be pg". Sure enough I was. The cramping and bleeding was the tube rupturing.

After 5 weeks, I would certainly think these symptons would have happened you already if it was ectopic----and they have not. There are rare occasions where conception can take place just outside of the tube. Or, like you said the HSC shaking things loose.

hope your doing okay vicky... Vongratulations on your Natural BFP!!!!...like the others girls said pain is a factor.
I have had 2 ectopics both with full on preg symptoms. The first i was 10wks before they took the baby out and lost my left tube. I had pains but doc had put them down to growing pains. Started bleeding at 9 wks went for a scan and no baby in womb hense the op at 10 wks.
2nd time i had an early scan at 6 wks ( no pain just usual swollen boobs and morning sickness) and again at scan no baby in womb so ectopic right side. that was 2004 and both tubes removed so went on waiting list for IVF on NHS and the rest is history 1 ivf after another! Hope for BFP soon as i hit the big 40 this year!!!!!

Thanks very much for replying.

It sounds like there are SO many different presentations of this that I just won't know until I have the scan! How awful for you both to have had 2 ectopics. I really hope you are both successful soon.

Touch Wood I still haven't had any symptoms - but then again as you both say you have both had ectopics with no symptoms. Ages to go yet - I think the scan will be on Monday so 5 days to go - seems like ages.
