STARTED FIRST IVF TREATMENT RECENTLY, STARTED MENOPUR INJECTIONS A WEEK AGO AND HAD FIRST SCAN TODAY. FOLLICLES WERE EXPECTED TO BE SEEN BUT NONE SHOWING AND THIN LINING OF WOMB TOO. AM ON HIGHEST DOSAGE POSSIBLE SO CANNOT UP DRUGS, NURSES TELL ME THAT SOME FOLLICLES SHOULD BE SHOWING BY NOW AND IT IS LOOKING LIKE I AM NOT REACTING TO THE DRUGS AS REQUIRED.
WE ARE TOLD IN A FEW DAYS IF NO FOLLICLES ARE PRODUCED WHICH I AM TOLD IS UNLIKELY THE TREATMENT WILL HAVE TO BE ABORTED.
I AM 42, DH IS 40, ANYBODY ELSE HAD THIS DIFFICULTY???
Hi there,
I did my first IVF last year, and used Menapour along with Gonal F. I too, did not have great results with the Menapour! On day 3 my Estradoil was suppossed to be between 150-200, and it was 26!!! They told me several times that they may need to cancel me as well. Menapour did not work for me, and this time I was put on Follistim. The results were DRAMATICALLY different. Don't lose hope. THere are so many different meds they can try, and things just may turn around for you. By the way, on Day 3 this time, my Estradoil on the Follistim was 246. So, just goes to show, it isn't neccessarily your body, but the drug. IVF starts as a standard drug cocktail, but they can learn your body, and curb it to your needs.
I hope this gives you some hope!!!
I just had a very similar situation happen to me. I started my first IVF, and RE put me on Gonal F and menopur. My E2 was very low, and I only ended up with 4 follicles. only two of the four were mature. They cancelled my IVF, and converted me to and IUI. I had the IUI today, and now I am in the 2ww.
I know it is very discouraging, but try to stay hopeful. Things could still turn around for you, and if not maybe they can convert your cycle, so that you still have a chance. I have had two IUI"S in the past, and have not been successful, so it is hard to keep positive when you are expecting to have IVF. I wish you the best, and will pray for things to turn around for you!

K- The first IVF cycle is often a trial run to see how you'll respond to a specific protocol. My first ivf was cancelled due to no repsonse (wasn't even converted to an IUI since I had no follies at all).
On my second cycle they switched protocols and drugs and I produced 9 eggs, 6 fertilized, 2 grew to blasts and were implanted and one took, resulting in my now 3 year old wonderful little girl.
On my 3rd cycle (trying for a 2nd) we used the same protocol as the successful second cycle and I had a poor response (3 follicles) so they converted me to iui which didnt work.
4th cycle they changed the recipe again and this time gave me max doses of Repronex and Follistim. This time I produced 10 follies, they retrieved 6 eggs, 5 fertilized and I am now in the 2ww.
So long story short is that not all protocols work on all people all the time. Dont ask me why the protocol that produced my daughter failed to make enough eggs the second time around.....or why the first protocol I was on (long Lupron) works for lots of people but failed for me. It is often a trial and error process. So even tho it is discouraging, hang in there....they'll find the recipe that works best for you. Good luck!!!
Hi
I have just recently had a cycle canceled because of poor response to the drugs. I am now waiting for AF to reappear. Hopefully try again in October. My question is, if my ovaries were so suppressed they didn't respond to the meds, could i end up waiting months for AF to return? (I know, ironic actually praying for AF to show her face.....)

Thanks everyone for the help and encouragement, every bit of information helps. We have now had to stop IVF as no follicles were produced and back to see consultant asap. They are suggesting running menopur alongside my period-lets hope this works but nice to know that there is still hope
Wow - what a comforting response. I have spent the day crying because the doctor was dissapointed with the folicles I've produced (three, but they're scrawny and the doctor flagged cancelling this cycle, which is my first) on five Gonal F injections. Bascially exactly the same situation as you, KarlAnge, but with a different drug. I thought that basically meant all was lost, and frightened commuters with my sobs as I travelled home from the hospital. I so needed to hear that this isn't the end. Thanks to all of you who replied here and good luck to you karlange.

Hi Botheration,
So sorry to hear that you are in the same situation as me but sounds like there may be some hope. Are you going back to see to see the consultatant, we have an appointment this sat so will keep you up to date. You never know we might get pregnant at the same time. Good luck and please keep in touch.
Karlange
Thanks Karlange. We've got another scan tomorrow morning, so we'll see then if my pathetic follies have sparked into action or if we cancel. My husband bought me the second series of The West Wing so if it turns out badly I plan to spend the day on the couch. And get a bit drunk - surely I can have a drink if my cycle's cancelled???
Good luck, and please let us know what the consultant says. It might be a good idea to tell him/her some of the stories you've heard here?
Also, I've got another friend on IVF and something similar happened to her with her first cycle. She's not pregnant yet, but after changed medication she's now produced 12 follicles. So there is hope.
BEST of luck and yes, let's hope we're both pregnant in the next couple of months.
Just wanted to let you know about our results - the doctor has cancelled this cycle. I'm devastated, obviously, but within hours the clinic rang me to tell me about the changes they were going to make next cycle - I'm off the down-reg cycle, and they're blasting me with Clomid and more Gonal-F. So even though it's bad news, they've also got a promising new plan. I just wanted to let you know that there is (potential) life after a cancelled cycle!

Dear Botheration,
Sorry not got back sooner and sorry to hear that your cycle has also been cancelled. Went to see consultant yesterday and they are sending me for another FSH test to see if my levels have changed. If my levels are 20 or more we have been told to not to have another attempt at IVF but if lower we are trying running the menopour alongside my natural period but its just the waiting time in between that drives you mad. Never mind all good things come to those who wait. Anyway all the best with your treatment, will let you know when i get my FSH results which will be whenever my next period shows up!!!!
Take Care

Oh my gosh. I am sooo glad I found this thread. This is exactly what just happened to us yesterday. We had our 1st IVF cycle and were on maximum meds. On day 9 there were only 2 eggs so converted to IUI. I was so depressed. I thought our chances of having a kid was totally over, but you guys are making me see that things may not be completely over for us.
We have an appt next week to see what the more "aggressive" approach may be
