is this right???

I went to the hospital on Friday to see the midwife, done all the checks etc and everything was fine. I have been advised I no longer need to go to the hospital I can just see my midwife at the doctors. She said if my midwife thinks there is anything wrong they will send me back to the hospital. I am just over 22wks and I thought you carry on going to the hospital till the end? The hospital said my midwife will do all the growth charts but she said that all is ok atm, I was just wondering if this is right?

Love
Shell.
xx

Hi Shall

Glad to hear your doing well.
Some areas are different than others, in my area they do practice that policy and the hospital normally won't see you again until your about 38 weeks. It does seem unfair but the midwifes are normally linked to the hospital and they carry alot of their equipment with them like the dopplers. I think if your not 100% happy with this you can insist on going to the hospital every 4 weeks.
Hope this helps but do speak to the midwife cause she can explain why.
LOL
Emma
x
Hi Shell,
Great news that everything's going well for you. My hospital seems to be the same as yours - as long as you're ok, after the 20 week scan (mine is on Wednesday although am almost 21 weeks!) you're pretty much left to the care of your community midwife unless there are any problems/complications.

I'm fine with this, as my hospital is a 30 minute drive away (1 hour in rush hour) whereas my midwife is 5 mins away!

Don't worry - you'll be taken good care of, wherever you are!
lots of love Sally xxxx

Shell,
I can't believe how quick time is going. It only seems like yesterday I was reading you were 12 weeks and I was wondering what that was like!
Sounds about right about the hospital - it's scary to let go of that safety net eh? I had my 'booking' scan today (that's a joke - it's about my 5th!) at almost 14 weeks and that's it now unless we go private and the midwife takes over at my GP's, seeing me only every 6 weeks, eek. Like me, she thinks it's ridiculous - purely from a mental aspect and because of the bleeding. Tight-fisted Scottish NHS!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway, glad everything is fine. I'm sure your midwife will be every bit as good, if not better.
Take care
Zoex

Hi Shell,
My hospital usually after the 20 weeks scan gives the next appointment at 41 weeks for induction if the baby is overdue. (I am gong back more often purely because I am on medication which needs to be monitored)
I would take it as a really positive sign that everything is going according to plan.
Once you get nearer to the end you will see your midwife more regularly (I am now seeing mine each week).
I am really pleased that everything is on track for you,
Take care
Love kirsty
xx
