hi all,

had some catching up to do today on all thats been happening since i last logged on, so glad to hear that everyone is growing nicely.

as for me i still haven't got a pram, but we did do the nursery this weekend so thats all done now and it looks lovely, its only now sunk in that we are finally going to have a baby and i can't wait.

i have had a long weekend off work and finally today got around to making my chrstmas cake, normally i would have made it in Jul and soaked it with brandy everyweek but this year i just have't had the time or energy to do it, what am i going to be like with xmas shoping!!!

tams
i saw a consultant in the end we paid out, and yes he did put my mind at rest, he said all is going well and i will see him every 2 weeks from now on, he said the same thig about the baby laying to the side due to not enough room, andall depending on the position the baby is in at 36 weeks all depends on the type of birth. i really dont mind what happens as long as they baby is healthly at the end of it, the only thing with a section is the amount of time your in hospital for, i really want to be in and out as quick as i can, but hey what will be will be.

i can't believe i have only 11 weeks to go and i'm finally going to meet the little bean that has been causing me sleepless nights due to the rib kicking and poking, everyone in work recons that if the baby is active through the night whilst still in the womb then its going to be active when it's out!!! any one else heard of this???? my god if it is the case then i can kiss goodbye to sleeping!!!!!

well i had better get off and et tea on the go or DH will be home and i haven't even started!!!

take care all

sha xx

Sha, that's good news that you're seeing a consultant and they're monitoring you. Definitely worth it for the peace of mind! I saw the consultant again on Tues and he said that he didn't want to see me again until 36 weeks, but reiterated that there was a risk of transverse or breach lie and said the same thing about the position of the baby at 36 wks. He also did say that there was an increased risk of pre-term labour (esp as I've also had some cervix treatment previsouly) but didn't seem to think that there was anything they could do for this. So I'm back to the midwives until 36 weeks. The baby was still lying across me on Tues, it hasn't moved for the last 4 weeks which makes me think it isn't going to?

Although it is also kicking up a storm! However not at night or at least not that I'm aware, I am SO tried at the moment (lots of late nights and 5.30 starts) that I sleep through almost everything. I do notice that it takes the baby a while to wake up in the morning, its a realy sleepy head. I tend to lie on my back and wait for it to kick before I get up, and if I'm still really sleepy so is it - lets hope this continues!! However Miss Piggy I think you're right, there's no corellation bewteen womb activity and early sleeping patterns. We can conduct our own survey!

I can't wait to do the nursery, I've ordered most things but they don't arrive until 3 wks before the due date. I am also only just beginning to think that this might actually be going to happen - I had my first ante natal class on Wed - am now a bona fide pregnant person!!

I hope you all have good weekends, I have a whole load of course work to get through - am beginning to think that a course at this stage was not a good idea. I'll be 37 wks when it finishes - and to think I could just have been using this time to eat chocolate biscuits and keep my feet up, I must be mad!

Hello ladies, I wanted to share my BIRTH story with you all! I am doing well as are the babies. It is long, so forgive me...

The Birth of Angel A and Angel B

Wednesday, September 26, 2007- Kirby’s Big Adventure
Gestational Age- 29 Weeks, 6 Days

- Around 4:00 pm, I finally called the Dr’s office because I had retained so much water that I looked like the “Kirby” character from the popular video game of the same name from the late 90’s. My feet were about double their normal size, my face was 50% bigger and my hands looked like I was wearing the hamburger helper gloves.

-I was not having “regular” contractions, but there were a couple while I was being monitored at the hospital. I was concerned about pre-eclampsia because after speaking to my mother-in-law and sister-in-law, the symptoms seemed along the line of what I was experiencing. This was my third visit to the hospital for issues concerning this pregnancy.

-Around 10 pm, I starting having really bad back pains regularly.

- Around 11 pm, I was discharged. I was told that I did not have pre-eclampsia and I was fine. (This was not my regular doctor who discharged me.)

Thursday, September 27, 2007- Ouch!
Gestational Age- 30 Weeks

-From Wednesday the back pains continued. By Thursday night the back pains were regular at 15 minutes apart and so painful that I could no longer hold my bowels nor bladder, thankfully the bathroom in my bedroom is 4 steps from my bed! :)

Friday, September 28, 2007- Kyle May be Late For School
Gestational Age- 30 Weeks, 1 Day

-I did not sleep much the previous 2 nights so I woke up at 7 (something) am and knew that something was wrong. I started to get a little nauseous. (Based on the other things going on, I figured that I was having a vasovagal response which meant that something was going on with my cervix.)

- I called the Dr’s office and told them what was going on and they told me to go the hospital. Brian was on his way to Napa, a city an hour and a half away, so I asked Kisha to take me to the hospital.

- 9:45 am I asked her to drop me off after taking Kyle to school, and then the pain got so bad that I asked her to drop me off at the hospital and then take Kyle to school, which she did.

- When I got to the hospital, the pain was so bad that I was crying uncontrollably. The same Dr. that sent me home on Wednesday was on call this time as well. The Dr gave me about 5 medicines to stop the contractions and a narcotic to stop the pain. I still felt the pain but I started to slip in and out of consciousness. (A welcome state since I had not slept in the last couple of days.)

- I remember the Dr telling the nurse that she wanted to give me drug tests because my response to the back pain was not like anything she has seen, I have to laugh now because she thought I was either overdosing or having a bad drug trip… and I have never used drugs in my life. I agreed to any tests that could help because I was in so much pain.

-Brian arrived at the hospital.

- The doctor gave me a pelvic exam and my suspicions were correct. The reason that I was having so much pain was because my cervix was shortening. I was 100% effaced (cervix shortened) and 2 cm dilated (cervix open), Victoria was at station +1 (position in the birth canal). (You typically have a birth vaginally at 100% effaced, 10 cm dilated and the baby at station +4)

-The doctor gave me another pelvic exam and then Victoria was at station 0. I was later told that I passed out at this examination.

NOTE: By this time I was so drugged with the narcotic that I was not really able to have coherent conversation nor maintain consciousness.

-I was then admitted to the hospital.

- Brian stayed the night in the car while he stayed parked in the hospital’s parking lot.

Saturday, September 29, 2007- Who Am I?
Gestational Age- 30 Weeks, 2 Days

- My breathing was labored this morning and we could not figure out why. The staff convinced the maintenance worker to open the window so I could get fresh air. It was great and my cough got a little better

-Brian finally felt comfortable enough to stay the night in the hospital room with me and he did so for the duration of my hospital stay.

-I was pretty much in and out of consciousness most of this day.

Sunday, September 30, 2007- Did Someone Drop?
Gestational Age- 30 Weeks, 3 Days

-The cough continued.

-Evening, I went to the restroom and when I got up, there was a protrusion on the lower left half of my stomach that was not there before.

- I was told that I would possibly be discharged on Monday.

Monday, October 1, 2007- Birthday!
Gestational Age- 30 Weeks, 4 Days

-Around 7 or 8 am, I went to the bathroom and felt a really intense pressure on my pelvis.

-8:30 am or so my doctor was finally on duty! I told him of the pressure that I was feeling and he gave me a pelvic exam. I was 5 cm dilated and he told me, “Congrats you are going to give birth today”!

- He walked out of the room and quite a bit of people came in the room and I was prepped for the cesarean

- 10:18 am Victoria Marie was born 2 lbs, 7oz 15 ¾”. 10:19 am William Evan was born 2 lbs 12oz 15 ½”. I did not see Victoria when they showed her to me, but I did see William crying with a little bubble of fluid on the tip of his nose. It was a wonderful sight!

- Although I was given a spinal epidural, I started to feel the pain of the procedure. (The meds were wearing off and the whole procedure took less than an hour.) I said to the anesthesiologist, “ouch, I feel that”. Someone told me that I would feel some pressure, and I responded that “no, I can feel you piercing my skin as you are sewing”. They quickly gave me more meds and made me unconscious.

-In recovery when I woke up, the medicine was not really working, so they gave me about 20 units of morphine and I still felt the pain (the typical amount they give is 5 units). The nurse started give me more and I said no, there really was no point, I did not think the pain would stop. I would rather deal with it than possibly get an overdose of any meds.

-They wheeled me on the gurney to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit where Victoria and William were being monitored. I was wonderful to see them, even with all of the tubes and weird machines around them

- I was given Vicodin for the first time. I was hesitant to take it, so I only took 1 pill less than the recommended frequency.

Tuesday, October 2, 2007- Pneumonia?
One Day Old

-Finally my doctored ordered a chest x-ray.

- I got to change Victoria’s diaper and she is so tiny that my hands were shaking because I thought I would break her.

-The nurses finally told me to take the recommended dosage of the Vicodin and I did.

Wednesday, October 3, 2007- Holding the Babies
Two Days Old

- I held William and Victoria for the first time against my skin, it felt so wonderful. I also got to change William’s diaper.

Thursday, October 4, 2007- Scream
Three Days Old

- My blood pressure was also high and we could not figure out why. Typically it is around 114/58 and it was at the highest 189/109, but it was averaging around 169/89.

-The x-ray results came back and I did have fluid on my lungs. No reason was told to me.

-Evening, I took a nap and it was so terrifying that I woke up wanting to scream. I did not but I felt a bit disconnected. My skin felt crawly and weird. I did not know what caused this and I was starting to feel anxious.

Friday, October 5, 2007- Paranoia
Four Days Old

- I was supposed to be discharged this day, but because my blood pressure was so high, they kept me for another day.

- The nursing staff finally confirmed that I had pre-eclampsia and that is why I had the fluid on my lungs and that is also why I had swollen up so much.

- All day I felt really paranoid, I felt like I was going to die and sound was going to kill me. Every time I heard a sound I got scared. I was very jumpy. I still could not figure out why I felt this way. I started seeing things and I still could not stop crying. I was running on a few hours of sleep since the birth of the babies, I was on cardiac medicine, Vicodin, a stool softener, and Motrin. Finally I had such an overload of sound that I had to shut off all of the lights and the TV and I went to bed hidden under the blankets. I was terrified of something that I thought was going to kill me. If Brian was not in the room with me I think I might have gotten out of bed and hid in a corner with my blanket over me, so the sound would not find me.

-I finally told the nurse about how paranoid I was feeling but because we were not sure why we continued with my meds.

Saturday, October 6, 2007- Homeward Bound
Five Days Old

-At 7 am I got my last dose of Vicodin. The nurse gave me the dosage, and by 7:20 am I started to feel paranoid again and I knew that it was the Vicodin. I told the nurse and asked not to receive any more.

- Was told that I would be discharged and it was hard because I would not be able to take the babies home, but I knew that they would be in better hands at the hospital until they were strong enough to come home.

- I was unable to visit the babies right when we left because I started to get sick with a cold.

-3:20 pm, I was discharged.

Today
Six Days Old

- I was still experiencing some residual side effects of the Vicodin but sound is no longer trying to kill me, but sounds are a bit amplified and if it is sudden, I feel scared. But it is happening less and less frequently. And I am no longer having nightmares nor am I seeing things, thank God!

-Another side effect of the Vicodin is that I am now having some drug withdrawal symptoms, but I expect to be 100% in the next couple of days.

-Once I get over this cold, I expect to visit the babies daily, several times a day. I have not seen them since Saturday morning (before I started to feel the itchy throat).

Denise, Denise You little devil - fancy you delievering before me!

Your bambino's look truely wonderful!

What a crazy month you had though - you must be exhausted - I hope they are giving good after care?? You have been through so much. Make sure they don't send your babies home till you are completely rested. And get lots of help, a cleaner and some counelling if you feel you need it. We need you fit and strong and looking glamourous in your Christmas photos.

I'm doing well over here in England.

Had my first ever nose bleed today, very exciting and my ankles are swollen - especially my right one. Wearing my flight socks and an old t shirt covered in blood right now - very sexy!!!!

Having twins is soooo easy isn't it, not!!!

Do you know I've put on another 3lb since last tuesday and its all in my tummy - feels like I've swollowed bricks.

Still I wouldn't change a thing!

Congratulations darling - you have two beutiful little babies!!!!! xxxxxxx

Thank you!

I am feeling so much better and I did ask to speak with a counselor because I want to be at 100% when the little one come home! It has been a crazy month and the funny thing is that we are going to end up having the baby shower after the babies are already here, but it will have to be ok :)

I was looking at my legs and they looked skinny so I weighed myself and I am 147 since giving birth and at the hospital I was 174, so I was pleasantly surprised. I thought I would only lose about 10 lbs from giving birth, so ony about 20 more pounds before my pre-pregnancy weight! I figure if I get there by this time next year I am doing well!

Quita, when I was in the hospital I kept getting nose bleeds I think the air was too cold. And not let me forget to mention my huge ankles and feet. It looked like I was the elephant man's sister.

I hope everyone is doing great!

:D  :D  Thiry two weeks Today :D  :D

Feel like I should be about 36 37 weeks. Can't sleep, can't walk, can't breathe. Itchy as hell. Loo every hour in the night but can't put my weight on my hands as joints feel all swollen. Bit aneamic 3 iron pills a day. White blood cell count raised slightly. Skin tags and pigmentation. Put on 6lb in a week!!!! Swollen ankles. Period like pains + heartburn when i lay down. Daren't blow my nose in case I get another bleed. Awake at 2 am eating coco pops. all normal for twins. Hoping to get to 34 weeks.

But, Dispite all this I wouldn't change a thing.

Funny creatures aren't we women! My hubby keeps giggling at me.

It will get easier (on your body), I swear :) But as for challenges of the midnight feeding variety, I cannot even imagine yet as ours are still in the hospital.

Chin up!
