Development of ICSI Babies

Hello all parents of ICSI babies
I have been going through infertility treatments due to low sperm counts of dh. It's been more than 3 years and we have tried everything, like IUI [8-10 times], IVF [3 times], once I did get pregnant thru IVF but had a miscarriage. I am 35 now and need to decide one way or the other. From the beginning my doctor has been advising ICSI but we have been hesitant due to mixed information available on this treatment. Some doctors feel it's perfectly fine and others pose some concerns of genetic, chromosomal, physical abnormalities. I have read a lot about it on the internet too. I am mainly concerned about the birth, development/growth of the baby. Since you have successful treatments of ICSI and have kids now [touchwood], I would really appreciate it you could share your experience with ICSI. If you have a child/children through ICSI, pls share your practical knowledge and experience of how everything was during pregnancy and delivery and how is the growth and development of your child & how old is your child now . I would really.............really appreciate it if you could share this real life experience.

Our little girl is an ICSI baby. She's nearly 21 months old now.

I had a normal pregnancy, no problems with her development. She was born 2 days after her due date. Normal delivery. Weighed 7 pounds 12.
Very good baby, breastfed well, didnt suffer from colic etc! Think we were very lucky!

She appears to be a very bright little girl to us. A little chatterbox, says quite a lot of words. She crawled at 7/8 months and walked at 10.5 months. (She was the first of the 5 babies from our antenatal class).
She is very independant and sociable. Not shy at all! (Sometimes wonder if this is always a good thing!!)

Ive never had any real worries about her development She was possibly slightly smaller/lighter than other babies, but was exclusively breastfed, so put on weight gradually. Our Health visitor was always happy with her. She is in the right size clothes for her age.

I hope all this info helps. I always worried during pregnancy about her, but not because she was concieved trough ICSI, just as a normal mum to be! Ive also never read anything on this site from other mums of ICSI babies suggesting they had any problems.

Hi,

I have ICSI twins who are heading towards 6 years old. They've always been pretty standard with their development; the only problems that we've had with them have been speech problems which are related to the fact that they are twins rather than ICSI babies. Academically they're at the top of their class so we certainly have no concerns there.

My pregnancy was pretty straightforward and I gave birth to 2 healthy babies at 39 weeks. So I can't see that we've had any issues relating to them being ICSI babies.

I also have ICSI twins. My boys are identical twins. There is a slightly higher occurance of identical twins with ICSI. When they inject the sperm into the egg, it can cause the egg to split.

My boys were born at 35 weeks, weighing 4lbs. They have been gaining weight like champs and at 4 months, they have tripled their weight! They have hit all their milestones. They rolled from tummy to back at 3 months and smile and laugh all the time. They are such a joy to me.

I wouldn't hesitate to reccomend ICSI to anyone.

I also had ICSI fraternal twin boys. They were born at 33 weeks and weighed 4 lbs 10 oz and 5 lbs 3 oz. They didn't require any medical attention in the hospital even though they were so early. And they just turned 1 yr old and have been able to hit the milestones for their first year. The doctor said they are developmentally doing great as they should. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend ICSI either.

Hi, I have a beautiful 6 month old baby boy who was an ICSI baby (with donor eggs)
Everything went well with pregancy and birth. He came 3 weeks early at 7lbs 6ozs. He has put on weight and is following all developmental stages eg rolling, reaching, babbling, cutting teeth etc...

I do not worry about his development at all.

The fact that he is an ICSI baby does not even cross my mind!!

My TRIPLETS (fraternal) are ICSI babies.....born at 33w6d...only needed to feed and grow... no medical attention was required. Thank GOD

i have an icsi 6 year4month boy, and an icsi 3 year 8 month, and a non icsi 4 1/2 month boy...

my boys were all born about 3-4 weeks early because of my HBP, but they weighed in 7lbs 2oz, 8lbs, 3 oz, and 8lbs 2oz, respectivly. so icsi was not an issue as it was the same with all of them.

developmentaly my boys are very great, no problems... there are differences between the two older one... one walked at 9 months, the other at 14 months... one is a catter box, while the other is more reserved, one is a dare devil, the other very carfeul...

i do not think that there have been any issues related to icsi, i think that they are just my healthy boys.

good luck with what every you choose, i would do it all over again if i had too... they have brought me so much joy

I know it is kind of early , but I have a ICSI daughter who is 4 weeks today. She came at 36 weeks, at a good size, had some coordination problems with eating and breathing and had a 8 day stay in the NICU, but it has nothing to do with ICSI, it is very common with prematurity.

However, she eats like a champ now, is very alert, not colicly, was able to roll over from stomach to back at a week and a half!!! (she hates tummy time) The pediatrician said her development is quote, "excellent". She is in 50% for height, weight and head circumfrence. Can't get any better than that!!!!

The only way DH and I will ever have kids is IVF/ICSI, and I am truly greatful for our little blessing.
