Hello

I got a +ve result last week (yippeee!!) and I've read that a lot of you continued with your pessaries until 12 weeks. I was told to just finish what was left in the box and that was it. Last night was the last pessary (15 in total) so now I'm paranoid that af will come now I've stopped! I know I'm being stupid but did anyone else stop taking pessaries this early?

Also, my doctor poo-pooed the idea of asprin, but I told him I wanted to take it anyway. So they agreed, but when I asked when I should stop nobody seemeed to know. They told me to just keep taking it. When did everyone else stop or do you keep taking it throughout??

Its two weeks before I go to the hospital for a scan and I suddenly feel really vulnerable and that I'm being left to fend for myself and I'm bound to bugger it up!!

I know I'm being a nightmare - its really not like me!! I guess you want this so much you are desperate to stop anything going wrong!!

love nikola.xx
Hi Nikola

Congratulations on getting your positive. I can't help with the aspirin but I stopped taking the pessaries on the day I got my positive HPT - that's all the pessaries I was given. To be honest I was glad to have one less thing to think about!

Jules

[Edited by Jules R on 29-Sep-03 06:03]
TTC 5 years. Daniel & Charlotte born 22.03.02, 1st ICSI treatment. TTC for 4 further years. 2nd ICSI cycle abandoned, 3rd cycle BFN. Looking forward to being a happy family of 4.
Welcome to the other side!

I know just how worried you are, it seemed on the 2ww to be the most worrying time in the world, but once you get a ++ you just exchange one set of worries for more!!! I know it's difficult but please stop worrying, try to relax and centre on the fact that you have achieved a wonderful positive and you are now PG!!

I too took aspirin during my ivf cycle but as soon as I got a positive result I stopped it. I figured that as you can't actually take aspirin or ibuprofen when you're pregnant, I should stop taking it altogether. Also, my clinic just told me to take the last pessary I had because your body and embryo are producing enough hormones, so you don't need any extra. I know that some clinics make you take them for a few more weeks, but like so many things, different clinics have different protocols. Like Jules, it's one less thing to worry about, and one less (or two less) things to shove up your bum! (not that I shove anything up my bum!)

Just drink lots of water, keep taking the folic acid, eat sensibly, don't lift anything and above all, try to relax and enjoy it!

If there's anything you're worried about, no matter how daft it seems, just ask on the board. I have found it so helpful and everyone is so kind and friendly and wise, so keep logging on!
lots of love Sally xx

Hi Nikola

I stopped using the pessaries on the day after I got my positive result. I'm now 33 weeks pregnant so obvioulsy doesn't do any harm! I'm afraid I can't help on the aspirin - never took it.

Try and relax as much as you can over the coming weeks. the worry does get worse before it gets better - I was able to relax a bit more afte the 12 week scan!

take care of yourself.

Helen xx
Hi Nikola,
I took the pessaries until week 13 (clinic guidleines) but my gp did say that there is no real proof that taking it longer really helps..so don't panic.
I take it you are on the low dose asprin? I took this right up until last week (week 34). Hope this helps.
Try not to worry about stuff (we all do I know) and the worrying never stops. I think as our pregnancies are so precious we all panic over every little thing. But hey..we are all human!!
I hope all goes well at the scan..keep us updated and any other worries..just post!!
Lots of love
Kirsty
x
TTC for 7 yrs (have severe endo and pcos and hubby has v low sperm) until became pg after ICSI cycle last feb. Now am the lucky mother of perfect little boy called Joshua born last october.
Hi Nikola - I took pessaries up to 12 weeks as my clinic were quite firm that this was a good idea. Glad when they finished though!!

With regard to aspirin, I took this (on recommendation from girls on this site who were convinced it had made a difference to them - and it worked!!) just until the result day, then stopped. I've read that you don't need it any longer and shouldnt take it whilst pregnant.

You won't mess anything up - stop worrying. The waiting time for the first scan is just as scary as the 2ww but it'll soon be here.

As others have said, no lifting of anything, rest when you can, drink lots of water, eat fruit & veg and S M I L E as much as possible cos you're going to be a MUM!!!!

Lots of Love - Jo.
