Umbilical hernia?

Post by kholtan »

Has anyone had an infant that had an umbilical hernia? I am waiting to hear back from our Dr. but I think one of my 6 week old twins has one. If yes, what did they do to correct the problem?
My son doesn't seem to be in any pain from it but I was just curious.

Hi there,

my dd has one - and so did my nephew. I think they used to have surgery but not anymore - they now realise that they tend to go away by themselves by the time the kids are 3-4 yo. My dr says he will just monitor it, but no need to do anything.

hello,

Congrats on the birth of your babies. 2 out of 3 of my babies had umbillical hernias at that age. Ours were from pushing, my babies had horrible constipation, and the straining caused their belly buttons to pop out. One of my boys was worse than the other, his umbilicus just continued to perforate, with each passing month. It was about 1-2 inches perforated above his body. Its very scary and ugly looking, i used to worry tremedously for him. Our dr said it should slowly clear up on its own, and if it doesnt by age 5-6 years old then there is a minor surgery that they do...BUt LUCKILY our started to go away slowly right after age 6 months. They are 9 months now and you would never believe that he had such a bad case of herniation. Do not panic, just have your ped look at it. and make sure the hole inside his umbilicus is not really big, thats what they look for. GOODLUCK>> things will be just fine!
With Gods Blessings BFP!

Thanks for the information. We are on our way to have our Ped. look at it. It's just looks so uncomfortable and strained. It's always helps to have people that have gone through it. Thanks again!

Take care,
Kimberly
