Working while pregnant?

Post by Katy91 »

Hi everyone - I'm in my 34th week now and have been working full time throughout. I thought I'd start a thread for others who are experiencing the same things. Such as:

1. Exhaustion

2. No empathy from co-workers

3. Inconvenience of doctor appointment juggling

4. Fear that you are doing damage to little one with work stress

5. No time to sort out anything you need to at home!

6. No time to enjoy the fact that we got this far!

Anyone else having this kind of experience? My job hasn't been too bad, all things considered. But it's still a grind. And it's very hard to care...

What a great idea for a thread!

I worked up until about Week 36.5 full time.

I think I can say I experienced everything on your list! Probably the worst aspect for me was being tired after work and coming home and having the grind of housework, preparing healthy food etc....We also had the added complication of DH's mother having chemo for the last three months with numerous emergency room vists to add to the excitement. In a lot of ways i think the whole being crazy busy thing has affected my enjoyment of being preg and in some ways being so busy stopped me from absorbing the fact that I am in fact having a baby!

As far as caring about work. Well I think I switched off from work last year when I started IVF so nothing new there. I can't say I had a spectalcular performance review this year but, the care factor was not exactly high...

How long do you plan on working?

That's it exactly -the daily grind makes you forget what's really important.

I want to work until I have to stop, because otherwise I lose more time with the baby when he's actually here!. Are you planning to go back to work? I more or less have to....

I know I'm still early on in my pregnancy, but I am aiming at working as long as I can (health to my baby and me considered of course!) I will also be returning back to work fairly quickly and DH will become a house husband. As I am self employed we can't afford to be without my money, but DH is on such rubbish money, we would end up paying more for child care than he earns.

Of course this is all providing things go as planned, I have told all my clients that I aim to give birth on the Friday and be back at work again on the Monday!!! Am I being a bit optimistic????

I would possibly be able to take my baby to work with me, I know my receptionist would be in her element as a child carer but of course she wouldn't get any other work done!
Me 37-DH 53
1st IVF/ICSI 04/06 BFN
1st FET 05/06 BFN
2nd FET 06/06 BFN
2nd IVF 10/06 BFP - m/c
3rd IVF 07/07 BFP

Hi Ladies!

Katy, I plan on returning to work after a break of four months...DH will hopefully be able to care for baby with some flexible work conditions otherwise he will take parental leave...I also worked as long as possible to maximise my time with baby after the birth.

Mandy, If it comes down to a choice between me and DH working I think I will continue to work. DH hates his job a lot more than I hate mine! As for returning to work a few days after the birth??? I guess that depends on how your birth goes and how you feel. If you have a C-section then I think it would be out of the question but otherwise feasible as long as you feel ok??? It would be cool to take baby to work and very handy if receptionist will help! I guess that's a perk of being your own boss you can set your own work conditions!
