Sorry...I don't want to sound like a poor listener...I know a few of you have mentioned first steps. My real question was whether anyone was actually doing more than steps and actually walking.

Hello all, I did post the pics of him in the cake and some other ones. Colin is walking. He started around the 11 month. He pretty mastered it and is almost running. He defenitly has me doing my excersice. No talking though, I think he should be saying words by know. He was saying things like ish for fish and og for dog but he stopped saying this. Well hopefully soon. talk with yall later.

sorry girls - seems like I haven't logged on for ages!

Madiva - great to hear from you but sorry to hear that colin has been poorly. Hope you enjoyed his birthday nonetheless and are looking forward to his delayed party!

Happy birthday to Jessica too!!!!!!!

Charlie had a fab birthday - I enjoyed every minute of it!!! I've posted a couple of piccies on photobucket - including one of his FANTASTIC cake!! A friend of ours asked if she could make the cake - we thought she'd just do a simple train or something but WOW!!!! It was a collection of Mr Men (do you girls overseas know the Mr Men????!!!). so cool! anyhow he was totally spoilt but had loads of fun! Just trying to find space in the house for all his new toys!!!

Re: walking I would have said that Charlie was more than capable of walking some time ago but WOULD NOT let go of our finger!!! However having done a few solo steps for a few weeks he is now well and truly walking. His problem though is that he can't stand up from sitting unless holding onto something so if he falls over he cheats and crawls the rest of the way! Only one of my friends babies the same age is walking (she's running around the place at 1 year!!) but none of the others (including a 15 month old who doesn't seem interested even in crawling!!!)

re: talking we have a repetition of words over and over for a few weeks and then nothing! At the moment everything is Ta (as in Thankyou!) or Ba-Ba (Bye-Bye). He can also point to Mummy's nose, eyes and ears (although he doesn't understand if I tell him to point to Charlie's nose, eyes and ears!!!???)

Anyhow that's us! Will go over to photobucket to see the new piccies!

Love

Hi all - we are back! :D :D :D Our trip was actually cut short due to a mess-up in the schedule...but I am so happy to be back as a family again...DH was in Vienna while we were in Italy. Italy was fantastic don't get me wrong but we have been travelling so much I just wanted us all to be together as a family. So I told DH no more travelling until atleast New Years!

Isabella has done very well with all the travelling but now it is time to be stable. We have joined a music playgroup - called Musical Munchkins - which starts in November. We are still part of the ex-pat play group here in Vienna as well. I am taking Italian lessons twice per week. And trying to studiy for my wine exam - which is impossible during the day with Isabella..so my only chance is after her bedtime which at that time I am also exhuasted.

No walking for Isabella...I am surprised because she was such an early crawler at 6 months...but she is a good crawler and I don't think she sees the need to walk. She does stand by herelf alot and I have learned not to say anything because if I do she plopps back down again. Talking - well she talks and talks but I don't know what she is saying. She points and says 'de da' which I interrupt as 'what is that'..so I explain to her what it is. She does also say 'da' for daddy and 'ma' for mommy. SHe gives kisses - nice wet jiucy kisses when asked and if you ask her what lions say she growls.

last night Isabella was screaming throughout the night..not crying but screaming and everytime I went in her room she stopped and I stayed with her for a bit and as soon as I left she screamed again. She also did not eat a thing this morning! Just spit it right out...so I am thinking she may be getting more teeth but she didn't act this way with the other teeth...she has no fever or any other symptom - growing pains maybe?? molars??

Isabella no longer eats purees - she wants only what I am eating. I made her salmon the other day and she gobbled it down! Still on the bottle...this one will be a toughy since she doesn't like sippy cups so we will skip these and go straight to the cup...I think I will start next week.

Happy Birthday to all the little ones I missed!!!

Hi All -

Glad to hear from all of you and get some updates. Hendricks is still content to just crawl. He has no interest in walking except along furniture by himself. If we try to get him to walk holding on to us, he just folds in the middle and plops. He was a late crawler, so I expect walking will still be a couple months away.

As for words, he says "iss" for fish, "ba" for bird, "puh" for plane, "ah duh" for all done. No animal sounds or pointing, but clearly he is trying to tell us something with all of his jibberish.

It has been miserable at our house for the last week. Hendricks was refusing to eat for about 5 days... thought it was teeth, but it wasn't. We caved and gave him a bottle a couple of time just so he was getting something in his tummy. Lots of inconsolable crying and irritability. Doctors said nothing was wrong. But, then Sunday I started came down with a stomach virus with it coming out both ends, and can't keep anything down. And now, Hendricks has it coming out his lower end. No vomiting thankfully. It is horrendous at our house. I am back at work today after getting 3 liters of fluids at the hospital last night and getting Zofran (anti-nausea). DH is at home with the sick baby, although Hendricks's mood is MUCH better now that he has diarrhea. He even started eating again. Who knows... maybe the pressure is being relieved. Anyway... YUCK! Hope none of you are eating right now.

Well, cheers to all.

Julie - Isabella does the same thing when trying to walk...I try to hold her hands or walk between my legs and she just crumbles up on the floor. So I am trying not to 'pressure'her and figure it will happen in time.

Gotta run someone is screaming at me...mmm..could it be because we only had 1 nap today

Hi all,

sorry there is no time to catch up with everyone personally, got to dash of to pick hubby and jess up.

It is so good to see all the photos of our little miracles on photobucker, i must say i quickly skip past most of the other little miracles!!! It's amazing what the year has brought for us all.

Jess was 1 on tuesday and had lots of fun, with a number of the family, she didnt even seem too bothered by the fireworks. I have added a couple of pictures to photobucket.

Since i last wrote I have been in hospital, to have my appendix removed, whilst there they removed a hernia, which i didnt know i had (not bad 2 for the price of 1), so now i am still recovering. So off work again for another 8 weeks. I only managed 3 weeks in work before the sickness kicked off. Glad to be off though as i was struggling a bit, at least i dont have to worry about that for a while.

oh dear ive waffled, must dash

speak soon

Question for you all. Are your babies taking 1 or 2 naps a day? If 1 nap, when did you go to just 1? My boys are sleeping 9:30pm to 8:00am. Then usually nap at 10:00am & 3:00pm, but lately it's been later and later and later (today it was 12noon and 5pm which is too late in the evening I think)....and they are getting shorter and shorter. I'm wondering if I should move them to 1 longer nap in the middle of the day.

I'd love to hear your nap schedules.

Kristi - sometimes Isabella takes 2 naps - each about 45 minutes..sometimes 1 nap either AM or afternoon and sometimes NO naps! The No naps has been lately - she just won't go down..in fact today it was a battle but because I am now writing this...I won and she is asleep. With the No naps...well she got sick this weekend with a cold and I know it is because she has not been sleeping well so I am bound and determined that she get alteast 1 good nap in. At night she is still on the schedule of 7pm-7am. I am reading The Contented Toddler Years - all about schedules, eating ...To be honest I am getting scared to take Isabella off the bottle because this is what I give her before bedtime.

I am hosting our playgroups Christmas party - like I need more stress right? I am also taking Italian twice per week..and I had the sitters all setup and bam the Monday sitter got a 'real'job so I am stuck..agghhh... We are now paying for a nanny service..DH did not object to the fee...so I will have someone come Monday, Thursday and Friday morning. A little stress relief.

No big birthday plans for Isabella..just mom and dad...we have no family here - but we will celebrate when my parents come..it is also my dad's birthday so we can celebrate both.

Gotta run - forgot I am poaching a salmon for Isabella and my dinner

Hi Ladies -
Wow, lots going on.

Sue - I sure hope you are recovering from your surgery.

How did the ear surgery go for Colin? It must be really hard when you can't explain to them what is happening.

Cla - LOVED THE CAKE. We did a monkey cake, but it really looked more like an angry gorilla or something.

I need to get on photobucket to see all the new pics, and FINALLY post one of H's bday party.

As for naps, well somedays it is just one nap and somedays it is 2. In general the total napping time for the day is 2-3 hours. Our "issue" is that he gets up every day at 5:30am  It sucks! It doesn't matter what time he goes to bed, it could be 6pm or 9pm, he is always awake at 5:30. It's like he has an internal alarm clock. We are trying to change this, but are not having any luck. We leave him alone until he starts crying, which is usually around 6am. With daylight savings time this weekend, 5:30 is going to be 4:30 and DH is going hunting so it will be just me to have the early morning crib party. Any suggestions!?!?!?

What kind of stuff are your kids into right now? Hendricks LOVES being chased. He tries to crawl away from me as fast as he can, with me crawling behind him saying "I'm going to get you!" He just laughs hysterically as he tries to get away. A lot of times he crawls over to his play tunnel and crawls inside and tries to hide. Then when I peak my head in, the just shrieks with laughter.

Anyone going trick-or-treating tonight? Hendricks has a monkey costume and our plans are to sit outside and have a bonfire and hand out candy.

Hope all is well!

Oooo excellent - loads of posts since I was able to last log on!!! Great to hear from you all!

re: sleeps - Charlie's routine usually includes a 30-40 minute sleep at 10am and 3pm. However we have been experimenting with 1 sleep only at about 1.30pm. He will then sleep for around 60-90 minutes. Going ok although he has a tantrum around 10ish so we have to get him through this. Not actually sure that he is ready for one sleep only but time will tell.

About early morning waking Julie - I HEAR YOU!!! Charlie has decided that 6am is his getting up time BUT our clocks changed last weekend and so it's 5am. We have put him straight onto the new time (so bed still 7.30 which is 8.30 in the old time) but he still wakes up. In fact this morning it was 4.40!!!! We just leave him to cry and usually he drifts back off for a while, although not usually for long. Then we hand him his bottle and let him self feed while we go back to bed for 10 mins (not to sleep just to wake up properly!!) Anyhow I seem to remember from being on hols it took about a week to get him used to so hopefully this will rectify itself soon.

We went to Eurodisney in Paris last weekend!! Was my Mum's 60th birthday present! My family all drove and I flew over (on my own with Charlie - Eeek! Actually it wasn't as bad as I thought, but then it was only an hour's flight!!). We had a FANTASTIC time!!! He's still a bit little to appreciate it all but enjoyed it all the same!!!! Will try and post some piccies!

right - must dash!

Thanks for the responses about naps. I've tried just 1 nap for the past two days and it's working well. They aren't even showing signs of being tired in the AM anymore. They are taking a nap after lunch and it's been 1.5 - 2 hours. And they are going to bed about 1/2 hour earlier at night too...and sleeping 11 hours straight.

I joined a gym finally! And the best part is that they have FREE childcare. So I'm going 3 days a week and hope to be in my best shape ever by Christmas time. The boys do really well in "school" (the childcare). And I love the free time!!

I also got a professional camera and am taking photography lessons. So I guess I found two new hobbies that are something for ME to enjoy (which I don't do much of with two babies). So that's exciting for me.

Brady is walking quite a bit now. It's not his main form of "transportation", but about 50% of the time he walks and the other he still crawls. Tyler is taking a step or two at a time and then lunges into my lap.

Well, I'm going to shower before they wake up! Have a great weekend.
