Calling all over 35s

Post by Angela37firsttimeivf »

Hi, I'm just about to start my second round of IVF. It's been a tough couple of months after last unsuccessful frozen attempt, trying to decide whether to carry on or not, or to start the adoption route, but sth was telling me to keep trying. Just interested in how many times it took for people in my age group really. Last appointment the doc said with women over 35, 70% are pregnant by at least the 3rd IVF try (not counting frozen as the chances are only 20% per try, as opposed to 30% with fresh. So I suppose that gives us some hope!

Hi! I am 38 and this is my 2nd IVF. I am in my 2WW. I took a hpt yesterday and it was positive. It could still be the HCG so I am not getting my hopes up but took another one this morning and the line was even darker. I am just praying that it took this time. I will know for sure on Thursday.

How many eggs did they retrieve last time?

They retrieved 9 from me this time and all 9 fertilized. They put 2 back in this time and were able to freeze 4. I switched doctors though after the first one and had less eggs this time but they were much better quality. The last IVF I had almost twice as many eggs but the eggs were too mature. My last doctor lied to me though and didn't tell me that. I had to go to another doctor and he told me after he reviewed my files.

Good luck to you! Let me know how everything goes.

I got pregnant on my first attempt at IVF at the age of 37. I had a high fsh and also a male factor. My cousin just got pregnant on her 4th attempt....she is 35. She left what I felt was a not so great clinic to go to a good one w/ great stats (such as the one I went to). I think finding a great clinic is very important. Good luck!

Hey all

Im over 35 but nearer 40 now! I have my EC on Tues but is not looking too good at the moment as only found 4 or 5 follicles at scan. Im trying to keep PMA as last IVF was BFP from only one egg, and it was twins! sadly ended in m/c at 9 weeks, still trying to get our heads around it!

Keep your fingers and toes crossed for me, could do with the suppot this time xx

hi angela, i am 38 and did my first ivf cycle in germany with a bfn, i also did two fet in germany which both ended with a bfn, then when we moved to the us i got a bfp on my 2nd ivf, but m/c at 9 weeks, then another bfn and the last fet resulted in a chemical pregnancy, that i am still trying to get over. my numbers went down and now they have been going up for the last 2 weeks. i will get tested again on wednesday and depending on whether they go up i may get a methatrexate shot. i took some methatrexate pills in germany when i had a tubal pregnancy, but did not work, so i had to go back to the er and they removed my second tube back then. i am then hoping to do another fresh cycle in jan or at the latest in feb 08. i can't wait. i want to move things along as fast as possible. we have also looked into adoption and actually just filled out our application and submitted all the paperwork. that helps me along in this process to have some hope. i am not sure about adopting in germany. are you a german citizen? i do have a friend in munich who knows someone who just recently adopted from somalia. if you want to know more just pm me and we can also chat if you'd like.

Hi all.

I'm 39 and this is my first round of IVF. Although, not to doing AF and IUI. I've had two miscarriages one at 7 weeks and one chemical. Usually no more than 2-3 follicles.
This IVF cycle I'm taking 20 Lupron and 300 Follistim, both twice a day. Today I had a u/s and blood work. My u/s showed me 5 follicles one at 20 the rest inbetween, lowest is a 10. LH today is 1/5 and Estrogen is 534. We are using donor sperm due to DH illness and factors.

Hoping for the best this time.

Good luck to all of you as well :D

Hi Angela,
Well I just had a birthday and turned 39 so I guess I fall into the over 35 crowd. It's weird, I still feel so young most of the time but I guess reproductively speaking I'm not so young anymore.
We have the male factor diagnosis. 1st ivf in 2004 -BFN, FET in 2005 -BFN, and then we took off a couple of years to think about our options. We looked into adoption but although DH agreed, his heart just wasn't into it. Then we found another clinic & tried ivf again in april -BFN & FET in July/Aug -again BFN.
It's a mystery why it hasn't worked so far. I respond really great to the meds & make a lot of eggs, around 20 each time. I've been tested for everything under the sun & it's been normal. I start again probably at the end of the week depending on when AF shows up. I'm on the microdose flare cycle this time. My 1st 2 ivf cycles I was slow to respond for the first day or so, which caused them to increase my dose of follistim way high(600units twice a day) then I responded like gang busters so they had to turn everything down & I had to take ganerelix injections too. My MD is theorizing that the lupron shut me down too much & the high dose of follistim could have caused my uterus to be more irritable.
So... we'll see how it all goes this time. If this doesn't work, I get one more try at ivf. I'm still feeling pretty good about this upcoming cycle. Last time for the FET I did get a positive for a few days which was improvement.

Hi everyone, thanks for all your replies. It's nice to have some moral support from people in the same age group.

Good luck to everyone starting a new attempt soon and my thoughts are with everyone who has had a miscarriage. Can't imagine anything worse than that. Getting a negative seems like nothing in comparison. My cycle starts some time beginning of next week. My husband is going away for six weeks which will leave me to go through it all on my own this time, apart from the crucial part, when obviously he will have to return briefly!

Srlegaspi: they retrieved 13 eggs last time, of which 11 fertilised, so we had enough to do a couple of FETs. Good luck for Thursday!!! Let us know. Unfortunately it all came to nothing. Maybe I'll be lucky this time.

Emma: I've sent you a pm.

2ndtimer: Happy Birthday. Turning 39 myself, this year was pretty hard. Maybe like you, I still feel so young, yet body isn't keeping up with my youthful mind! Something good has to happen. Maybe 39 will be our lucky number and we'll have to play it on the Roulette Table.

Angela: No there is nothing worse then having a miscarriage, and to top it off your two sisters having BFP's and carring to term. Not easy, but you get through it. Mourning helped me, although there are days that I still cry and feel angry over the process.

Mandyluckypants: First of all I love your ID name... very cute. Secondly, yes it is a big large wooden rollercoaster, the one that you feel every dip and bump. Sometimes getting off helps. But then when you get back on again, you feel like nothing has changed -- I'm looking for that smooth rollercoaster, too.

Good luck to each of you. Tomorrow I'm back at the RE for u/s and blood work, hopefully Friday will be retreival! Crossing my fingers.

Hi everyone!

I posted earlier and just to give everyone hope I want you all to know that this 2nd time around I got a BFP! As of Monday, my BETA was 222. I go back in on Thursday to make sure it keeps doubling. I have had 3 blood tests so far and they have all doubled or tripled. I just wanted to give everyone here some encouragement. I still have a long way to go as I still have to hear a heart beat but so far it is looking good!

Hi Ladies
I'm 37 and worry that I've left it too late to have a baby. I'm just starting my 6th cycle of iui. I had 3 cycles with clomid and this is the 3rd with menopur. They've increased my dose this time as I've still only been getting 1 follie. If it doesn't work this time then I'll be looking at doing ivf in the new year but really hope I don't need to.

Hello over 35 ladies. I'm 38 and as you can see from my details below it's been a long couple of years.

I have done 2 fresh cycles and 3 frozen and got a BFP on the 3rd frozen (although there is teeny possibility it could have happened naturally as for once I ovulated - I have Poly cycsticlovaries).

I now have a LONG 10 days to wait before the 6 week scan.

Am wishing you all the best of luck.
Me 39 PCO - TTC since Aug 05
2 IVF/ICSI, 2 FET. All BFN
BFP Oct 07
