Bump too small?

Post by Katy91 »

I'm going slightly bananas here from comments I am getting from nice people. Though I have gained almost 40 pounds in total (I'm at 36 weeks with a boy), everyone is always telling me how "small" I look. But my bump has been measuring in the normal range - at least that's what the doctor's tell me!

The last thing you want to be told is that you look different from other pregnant people, right?? Anyone else look small but have babies of average or larger size?

I got so sick of hearing that I looked "small". Honestly, I don't think people think about what they are saying or how much their comments can hurt. Yes, I had a small stomach my entire pregnancy. (Wish I could say the same for my butt!)
I delivered at 39 weeks--a beautiful, healthy baby girl. She weighed 6 lbs 7 ounces--so she was a little thing but has gained a ton--she's already at almost 11 lbs and is 6 weeks old.

Every woman's body carries babies differently. Please don't worry about this. I'm sure you are doing great and I bet you're getting excited to meet your son!

My SIL and I had a running joke while I was pg. . "No one will be happy until you are FAT!"
I heard it all the time with twins and people assumed I was starving myself or something. It actually started to really bother me towards the end but I ended up having twins above average in size so it doesn't really matter in the end. Our bodies are all so different and no one should compare even though it's hard not to.

Good luck to you and your little fella!

dont let it upset you, as girls said, our bodies are different and we carry our babies differently. I just "love" like people make those stupid comments, I am pregnant w twins, so far I got "you look big", or you look so small, it seems like people just say those things without thinking.

Thank you all so much - that's really reassuring. I am NEVER going to be so insensitive again - I'm sure I said stupid things to pregnant people too before I knew any better!

We have a scan on Friday to see how big he is - I'm just praying...

Thank you again - hope you are all doing well!

I wish I had a dollar for everytime someone has told me, "You don't look like you are pregnant with triplets!" or "I can't believe there are three in there, where are you hiding them?" or "I thought you would be bigger with triplets!" I just smile and say trust me they are in there!! I feel like I am big as a house but to everyone else, I should be bigger. I keep telling them, oh don't worry I will be huge soon enough!!

I had a lady come to see me who was 8 months pregnant, and I didn't even notice, and was totally shocked when she told me. I never once thought how my comments might have affected her, this post has truly made me think how insensitive I can be at times! I know that now that I am starting to show a bump, that I am so proud of it and want everyone to notice, so I can now understand how hurtful it could be.

Thank you for making me aware of this.

Not only was I accused of being small, but the doctor also said I was measuring small, so I was definitely concerned. We had a 6 lb. 14 oz. baby girl and everything was fine.

I think the first time around, you could end up carrying small since your muscles have not been stretched that much before. I am pregnant with my second and measuring right on schedule this time!

Be glad you are carrying small. Think of how easy it will be to bounce back later!

Take Care,

I wouldn't take it as an insult if someone said my bump was small; I would, however, be insulted if I was told I looked huge. So here's to all the small bumps of the world...
