6 week u/s- no yolk sac, fetal pole or heartbeat.

Post by christie76 »

I had my 6 week u/s today. I'm actually 6 weeks 2 days, but I'm measuring 5 weeks 5 days, I believe. There are 2 sacs, but she had a very hard time making out a yolk sac. She thinks one of them has it, but not sure about the other one. Neither have a fetal pole or heartbeat. Has this happened to anyone else? They have me scheduled for another u/s in 2 1/2 weeks. That seems so far away. I just called to see if I can go in again next week, when I'll be over 7 weeks. I'm so scared that they are just not developing and that I'll miscarry. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Christie

So sorry you have to be worried!
Maybe it was just too early...or the sonographer wasn't good at her job!

I'm wishing you healthy babies, and another U/S for next week...

Best to you...

I'm having my first U/S next Monday and after digging out information about yolk sac on the internet and reading your message, I became very nervous. Check the website below out and there are a lot of women having such problems, most of them turn out to have normal pregnancy. My heart is with you. Keep us posted. I'm praying for my first U/S next Monday.

Hi Christie

I just wanted to say that I had a scan at 6 weeks and 2 days and it was all very uncertain. They could see a sac and thought they could see a yolk but not sure and saw a pulasting but couldn't be certain it was a heartbeat. What I'm trying to say is - try not to worry - I think it's quite normal that early not to necessarily see heartbeat or yolk. When I went back for another scan 9 days later - it was all clear as day. The embryo progresses so quickly at this stage. Anyway GOOD LUCK and I hope the time doesn't drag too much. Vicky

Christie, i know its easy to say, but please try not to worry and remain positive.
When i went for my 6week and 4 day scan they could see 2 sacks but no yolk or heartbeats.
I was so scared and like you thought that they wernt progressing and expected the worse.
1 week later i went back for another scan at 7 weeks and 4 days and saw 2 tiny heartbeats.
6 weeks is really early to detect heartbeats...some people get lucky and see them some dont, but youve got this far so please relax and believe that alls ok.

By the way im 5 months on monday so i can work out well.
Goodluck and let us know how it goes.

Wow. Thank you all so much. You definitely made me feel better. They called me back and I'm going in next Fri. I'll be 7 weeks and 4 days. I'm just trying to remain positive, even though it is so hard not to worry. I'm so sick. It started last weekend and has gotten worse. That's actually a good thing to me. As long as I'm sick, I know something is going on in there. I just pray that I see both heartbeats and they are both strong and healthy. Thanks for all the positive advice. I really appreciate it. I don't know why they do the u/s so early if there is a chance they won't see what they want to see. They should just do it at 7 weeks to begin with. It would save us so much stress.

Update- I went in for my 7 week, 4 day u/s this morning and saw 2 heartbeats. One was 154 and the other is 167. They are measuring 7.6 weeks and 8 weeks. I'm so excited. I wish they didn't do u/s so early. They should really wait until 7 weeks. I also had a really good tech this time. I was discharged from my RE and I'm seeing my ob in 2 weeks. Yay! Thanks for all the positive advice. It really helped.

I really wish they didn't do u/s so early. I was a complete wreck for the past week. I had myself prepared for the worst. If they had just told me they only expected to see the sacs and maybe the yolk sac, then I wouldn't have freaked out. The u/s tech shouldn't have said as much as she did. The nurse was totally calm and acted like it was completely normal. At least now I can share my story with other women who might go through this. Seeing those little beating hearts was amazing. One of the best days of my life, so far.

YIPPPEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited and relieved for you Christie. It sounds as if BOTH of your twins are doing extremely well -- great HBs and measuring nice and big for being 7wks 4 days. I hate to say it, but I have a feeling your technician probably wasn't the best the first go around. That being said, you can put it all behind you and celebrate your twins. This is wonderful news. Congrats!!!!!!!!

I go in for my 10wk scan this Monday (still crossing fingers that BOTH babies are well and growing). I have had a TON of migraines in the last 2 weeks -- really kicking me to the curb. As bad as they can be, they are worth my beautiful twins!

Take care

Christie,

I am so glad you got good news!!! Sorry you had to go thru that in the beginning but maybe it makes this all the more special, seeing your babies heartbeats!!
I remember we went pretty early to have our 1st sono because my BETA was so high and I wanted to see how many were in there! We saw 3 sacs but nothing else in them. Came back a week later and saw little dots in each sac! By 7 weeks we saw the heartbeats, it is amazing how fast they grow in the beginning.
I hope your sickness doesn't last too long but it will all be worth it! Wishing you have a happy healthy pregnancy from here on out!

HUGS,
Allison
