Can't hear Heartbeat with doppler at 11wks 1 day

Post by Vickyp »

Hi all

I just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on dopplers and when you should be able to hear the heartbeat? I just had first appt with midwife at 11wks & 1 day and she couldn't hear the heartbeat. I have a scan next week but a bit worried that I should have been able to hear something (I had a previous scan at 7wks 6 days and all was well)

Hiya Rachel

LOL - I hired one this morning! I hope it's here tomorrow so I can get trying! It sounds so late to listen at 24weeks - it must different depending on where you live. Thanks. Love Vicky

I have one and the baby just moved to much so I could never hear anything. Now after 33 weeks I can find it even if he moves, but not before. Also I was told by the doctor they only listen after 16 weeks

Thanks Guys

That does make me feel better. I'm glad I asked as otherwise I'd have been on the doppler night & day when it arrives tomorrow! It's weird isn't it how everywhere is different - my midwife has booked me in to go back again at 13 weeks to try to listen again - which is a big difference babywise (13-16 weeks I mean).
Thanks again. Vicky

I have a little mini doppler (for pulse points in the foot), I am now 15 weeks pregnant and so far only found the heartbeat once (unbelievably at 12 weeks), apparently it can be a bit like trying to locate a fish in a goldfish pond, so I guess mine has decided to hide under a rock or something! I am tempted to buy a proper fetal doppler, I've seen them on ebay for only £36! But I will wait until my 16 week appt with midwife next week first.

Wow, reading those posts makes me a little nervous. I was supposed to go in for a doppler at 9w4days to hear the heartbeat but my appointment was postponed to the 13th which would still only make me 10w5days.....

My doctor told us if we could hear it then we could stop taking the progesterone shots. I assumed we would be able to hear it... :( Would they do a full ultrasound on you if they can't hear the heartbeat just to make sure everything is ok?

I also didn't know you can actually buy your own doppler! That would be something!

Well I still can't hear anything with my rented doppler. I guess I really will just have to wait ill 12 week scan on Monday to find out if everything's okay.
Mandy - I like your analogy of the pond - that makes it seem much more reasonable.
Keddie - Maybe you have more sensitve dopplers in the states? Vicky

Hi vicky hope your scan goes well today have you had any luck finding the heartbeat after your scan today hopefully you will have a rough idea of where baby is and that does make it easier to know where to start to look for it .

Vicky,

Good luck to you. I really hope they can find the heartbeat for you. I go in tomorrow and I'm a bit nervous. One girl on one of the other threads said they couldn't even find the heartbeat at 25 weeks and it can be tricky sometimes.

I hope our little ones are front and center with loud little heartbeats!!

Hi everyone

Well unfortunately I found out at my 12 wks scan on Monday that my baby died at just under 10wks. (Please don't anyone else worry that if they can't find heartbeat this is why - I'm still sure you can't hear it easily that early). I think I had a sixth sense about it. I still haven't had any bleeding or anything so unless that starts soon I have to go in to hospital on Tuesday to have it removed surgically.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings - I hope everyone else is doing okay. Vicky

Vicky, I'm so sorry for your loss. I just had a very similar experience, so I know how painful it is. About a month ago I went in for my 11 week routine appointment with no idea that anything was wrong, and found out that the baby had stopped growing at about 7 weeks. I had a D&C three days later.

I know there's really nothing to say right now that will help. Take care of yourself, and know that things do get better. It's a cliche, but going through this has showed me that time really is a healer.
