Malinka~Hey girl! thanks for the positive vibes! If you get nothing ready before they get here just make sure you have the basics. Some clothes, diapers and wipes, a few blankets, bottles and formula if you are not b-feeding, and a car seat. Everything else can be bought or improvised for until you get it done. Relax and remember you can only do what you can do. Enjoy this special time above all!

Take care~

Hey gals! How was Halloween for you all?

We've had a rough few days. Who knew a cold could be such a PAIN!!! Ellie's been a good sport, considering that she can't breath very well, she's not eating much at all, and that she pretty much missed all the Halloween fun. To add to the fun, we had our 4 month check up today (yes, a couple weeks late...), which means we had vaccines! :( :( :( Both babies took it much, much harder than last time. To add to the suffering, Ellie had to have wax scraped out of her ear canal, so the doctor could ensure she didn't have an ear infection too. (I guess she has a small ear canal. Didn't even know that could be an issue! :? ) So, both babies screamed the place down. To make matters worse, I had to go to work right after we got the kids home (and grandma was babysitting). Needless to say, I was emotionally wracked by this point and just broke down once I got to work. My poor principal didn't know what to do with me! Luckily, we didn't have students today, just meetings. So, I was able to take some time to just decompress before being bored at all the endless meetings.

I'm praying that tomorrow is a better day.

Malinka, I hope you're hanging in there! Something I would recommend is a few premie outfits. I never thought my kiddos would be small enough, and they were only 3 weeks early, but most newborn stuff was too small. It didn't take long for them to fit in regular newborn clothes, but the premie stuff definitely helped us early on. Good luck!

Kim sorry about Ellie, I hope she will get better soon!

yea, I am going to buy some preemie cloths, I heard it as well that newborn cloths are too big at the beginning.
what about pampers? Do they do it for preemies as well?

Guys, do you use humidifier in a babies room? If yes, what brand would you suggest?

Malinka,

Yeah, I think Pampers makes preemie sized diapers. However, my kids never wore them. We were able to wear the newborn sized swaddlers, and we just rolled them down a tad at the top. I guess it just depends on how big your babies are...

As for the humidifier, I'd love advice as well. We have an older VICKS humidifier, but I've read that we should have a cool mist one. I think ours is just regular steam?

Hey Twin Mommas!
Well, I woke up this morning (5 weeks and 4 days) and had some bleeding, freaked out, they let me come in for an ultrasound early and we are pregnant with Twins and saw both heartbeats (yes, this early!) We are thrilled, but it was such an emotional roller coaster....we went in expecting the worst and got the best news ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi all

KIM- I hope Ellie has settled down for you. Our last vaccines were the pits as well. I told my DH he has to take 1/2 a day off next time as I only have one pair of hands to handle two unhappy, crying babies :D

Kimberley- how are your two going - have they gotten better with their routines? I am sure they will be back on track soon.

Malinka - How are things with you? I am sure you will have what you need by the time your babies are here :D

We had our babies weighed today and Harry has put on 400gm and Bronte 2oogm over the last 3 weeks. That makes Harry 18.5 lbs and Bronte just on 15lbs. Bronte is still not taking her bottle well and we think we will take her to the Ped for a check up as this all started even before she got sick. She seems to be back to her normal self except we have lots more smiles and she baby talks all the time. She talked so much the other night she was frothing at the mouth :D She was a slow starter but boy is she making up for it now - just so cute!

I have started them on some pear and custard at a teaspoon a day and all seems to be going well. Bronte takes it much better than Harry as he still pushes the food out with his tongue. He probably is not quite ready for food as yet. Bronte handles the food very well so I think she seems ready. They will be 5 months old in a week.

Cheers to all

CONGRATS Faithandhope!!!!! I had a feeling you had two in there! Yeah! I hope your pregnancy goes smoothly and blissfully!

Di, my what big babies you have!!! 18 pounds, already!? Geez, I thought Ellie was a heavyweight. She's about 15 1/2 pounds, and Braeden is only 14 1/2. Poor guy is getting outweighed by his sis. BUT, he is an inch longer, so he hopefully won't be shorter than her! Braeden takes after my DH who was a skinny kid until he hit about 22. Ellie takes after my family, which has NO problem packing on the pounds (that is why I must work my @$$ off right now! ) We're still dealing with the colds. Ellie should be over hers by now, but it's lingering. Plus, she seems to be getting an eye infection too! :? Braeden sounds horrible, but his spirits are improving. Good luck with the solid foods. Our pediatrician is adamant that they not start until 6 months. And, my kids seem to be content with bottles for now, so I'm not going to rush into it. [One piece of advice others have given me---start with veggies! Cause once they taste that sweet fruit, it's a LOT harder to get them to like veggies. ]

Kimberly--I hope sleep is going easier for you! My MIL was over today to babysit (they're not going to the sitters while they're sick), and she kept Ellie up too long----arrrrgggghhh! It took me an hour to get her to settle down. It just reinforced to me that my kids HAVe to go down for a nap after being up around 1 1/2 or 2 hours.

Have a good night gals! I'm off to walk the dog in the dark--I hate when daylight savings time ends...

Hi Ladies,

I know I haven't been around lately but I need some opinions! I was recently released to my regular OB and we had our first appointment with them yesterday. They are saying that there office proticol (sp?) is to put all twin moms on bed rest at 28 weeks! Has anyone else heard of this? I thought I might need bed rest but 28 weeks seems so soon! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Lindsey

Lindsey--That does seem kindof strange that they would automatically put you on bed rest without considering your status at the time. I was never put on total bed rest, but around 34 weeks, I was ordered off work and put on modified bed rest. Maybe they will reconsider once you get to that point, if you're doing well? Good luck.

Hey everyone!

Lindsey~ I have never heard of a RE making you go on bedrest before seeing where you are at at that time but what do I know? I worked up until the day I went on hospital bedrest at 32 weeks. Go with your gut and if you doubt your RE perhaps you can interview others.

Di~ Wow!!! Your little ones aren't so little anymore! It's so great they are getting so big but I'm sure it's bitter sweet. Out of one great stage and into another. I bet they are loads of fun laughing and cooing. Bronte might just be a petite little girl and I hope you will find everything well with her when you take her in. Thanks again for feeling my agony the last few weeks.

Kim~ Sorry your babies aren't clear of illness yet. Bummer! I'm sure things will be back on track soon. The Halloween photo is adorable by the way. We were so lame and didn't do much of anything. We don't even get a single trick-or-treater since our house is on acreage and it seems children don't want to walk this far in between houses anymore. Next year I'm going to put in full effort!

Well, our Coastal vacation was great! The babies slept the entire 8 hour drive w/ only stops to eat and did beautifully on the beach all day. I even got to do some motosurf myself on my stand up jet ski. WHOHOO! I think the car forced the children to sleep and really helped them get back on track. They seem to be doing 100% better. AFter almost 3 weeks of fighting sleep they are doing so much better! I'm having a glass of wine in celebration! Last night it took 15 minutes to get them totally asleep and then they did their old standard 4.5 hour stretch followed by a 3.5 hour one. I can live with that. So happy that they got past it, or so it seems.

Went to the Re yesterday and all is well. I could NOT believe it when he said they both weigh 8.5 lbs. I was shocked!!! They are still in Newborn clothes and look so tiny! It's bitter sweet to see them grow. I'm really releaved to know they are getting enough breast milk though. It was a major concern of mine for a while. We are so grateful to be back to normal around here. The beach did us all good.

Have a great night everyone!

Faithandhope- Congratulations!!!

Diane- I can't believe how big your babies are! They must be really good eaters. You are doing an incredible job!

Mine will be six month next week and weigh about 16 lbs. Of course, my poor little guys started out so little, they weren't even on the regular growth chart. They had to be on a special preemie growth chart until they hit 1 month. But they are starting to chunk up!

Kim- Sorry Ellie's been sick. My boys have had several colds and it is so difficult. I hate to see them sick, especially when you can't do anything for them.

Malinka- You are getting close!

Kimberly- Glad to hear that yours have gotten back on schedule and that your trip went so well.

We are taking the boys to visit our parents at Thanksgiving. Wish us luck with 2 babies on a plane. I know all the other passengers are going to hate us!

I have started back to work one night a week. It's nice to get out of the house and have adult conversation. DH is doing well watching them. I am a nurse on postpartum, so I have lots of advice to give patients, especially those with twins!

As you can see in the picture, they are drooling a lot. I think they might be getting ready to cut a tooth!
