Still really confused about how much rest to have after ET

Post by ARG »

I am on my 2ww after ET. I had two good grade 1/2 transferred. On my first cycle of IVF I spent the best part of 3 days in bed/on the couch. I have now been told that this maybe wasnt the best thing to do as the blood needs to circulate to get nutrients to the embryos in order for them to implant. I rested yesterday after my 10.00am transfer and today I am gently pottering about. Whilst I am not doing any lifting or great excercise am I ok to do a little light duties like cutting vegetables for dinner and arranging some picked flowers from the garden?? I was planning to go back to work tomorrow, is it the right thing to do???? I know it may sound trivial but I want to know I am giving myself the best chance. Please give me your honest opinions.

Hi

I was told to take things easy ut to carry on with day to day life. However I did take 4 days off after ET and I'm glad I did as I slept a lot. I was also a little sore after ER/ET and I just think having some time without the pressures of work is good. I did have a wander down town but nothing hectic. I suppose it depends what type of work you do and how stressful it is. Or you might find it is good to take your mind off things?

Just be kind to yourself and best wishes to you and your embie(s)...

Hello Ladies ,

I agree with Magic on this one. I took a week off work after ET the reason was I was sore as hell and figured the less stress on my body the better. The day after ET I was sick as dog . Really bad cramps and running tot he bathroom every 2 hours . Not sure if it was the drugs or just had the stomach flu . After that day I was feeling alot better by day 3 (after ET ) I was walking around gardning, cooking and even going to my sister in laws b-day dinner . I was lucky because all week dh was only working half a day so I had company and my mind wasn't on it all the time :)

If you stay on the couch or bed all day you will stress way too much thinking about it . Go on with things you normaly do but I would suggest no house cleaning and small I mean small walks. That is was my doctor suggested . Acording to my doctor ,It is a poven fact that stress does affect implantation . Try to stay away from Work , traffic etc.... Nature is the best environment .
Hope we help.

I get confused about this, too, I have read so many things that conflict. I think what it comes down to is there hasn't ever been any actual solid proof that bed rest makes implantation any more likely.
However, a lots of doctors seem to still recommend it, for example, mine recommends the rest of the day of transfer and the whole next day and night. I think the other ladies give really good advice, just be good to yourself and don't over do it. If work involves not much physical activity then I'm sure you'd be fine to go back. Good luck to you!!!!!

Hi, I have done 4 transfers 1 fresh and 3 frozen. After my fresh i had to go straight back to work as i own my own business and staff called in sick, i got a BFN. I was still very crampy on ET day.
After each of my frozen cycles which are easier on the body, i have booked myself off work to give myself around 5 days of rest, but i do still potter around the house.
All my clinic insist on is no heavy lifting, hoovering, swimming, baths, walking is fine as long as its steady. generally just taking things easy. if your going supermarket shopping take DH with you to carry the bags.

Good luck to you, and hope your dreams come true.
