I am jumping the gun b/c just had my e/r today and started shots tonight. My husband has to go out of town next week for overnight and was wondering if anyone has given this shot themselves and if so, how did they do it given where it's supposed to be taken?
I say jump the gun b/c my last 2 e/r did not end up w/ e/t, so it may not even be an issue for me. But seeing that I am trying to be optomistic, just wondering if it could be done by self adminstration for one night. My clinic is not so helpful in this regard otherwise I would ask them

I have not been able to give myself the PIO shot. I tried one time when I got mad at my husband, got half way through & couldn't push it all the way in. It was a mess.
I have heard that some women are successful with doing it in the bathroom by propping one hip up on the bathroom counter & injecting that hip. I would also suggest that if your shot is only 1cc, then you could split it up into 2 1/2 cc shots & give it on the top of each thigh. Last cycle for my FET, I was on 2cc shots of PIO & 1/2 cc shot of delestrogen, which is a lot of IM shots to do. I started giving the smaller delestrogen ones in the top of my thighs to save my hips for the PIO. It seemed to work out well.

thanks for the info.... I think there may be one or two nights that I will have to do that, but I will follow your suggestion.... I do only take 1cc. It may not be an issue if I don't have the e/t on Monday, but just in case all goes well, I wanted to know how to do it. THANKS 2NDTIMER!!!

I did it numerous times. It was easier than I thought it would be. I did it standing up and looking over my shoulder in the mirror at the upper outer quadrant of my buttocks. Some others suggested sitting in a chair, crossing your legs and leaning away from the injection side. Then you can look to the injections side and see where you need to go as well. I just found the mirror helpful. It was more difficult to keep up with the post-injection massage for at least a full minute than the shot itself. You can do it, don't be afraid!
