FOOD TO AVOID WHILE PREGNANT

Post by vicky77 »

I would like if you can all share what were the foods that your Dr.'s told you to avoid while pregnant.
I was told the following foods should be avoided:
-King Fish, Tile Fish, Tuna, Sword Fish, Shark, Sushi
-Luncheon Meat
-Soft Cheeses (i.e. Brie, Blue Cheese, Feta)
- Rare of Medium Cooked Meat (only medium-well or Well)

Share your info!! Thank you!!

You can eat the soft cheeses as long as they are pasteurized. I check all the labels and most of the feta cheeses are pasteurized.

Deli Meats- eat only if they are heated up.
Smoked fish-Lox and whitefish
Pate-chopped liver..sure this won't be hard for most to skip
Sprouts-I was really surprised about that one
Be careful of Red Raspberry leaf tea since it can cause early contractions

My Dr. said if I was going to a really high end and reputable place I could get sushi (salmon not tuna) or lox....but I am not going to take the chance.

Vicky - I would not worry too much. Obviously, you do not want to eat much fish and seafood due to the possibiliy of illness. Use your best judgement. We did not eat out much while I was pregnant because I was worried about cleanliness (funny, right now I am just worried about keeping things out of reach!). When I cook at home I used a thermometer to check the doness of the food and also to ensure it was kept warm enough. As for lunch meat, you sould avoid the excessive salt as well as the change for illness. Even the foods they tell you to avoid do not have anything that could harm the baby in small amounts. Just make sure you eat a balanced meal.

I hope you stay safe and keep that little one growing! I am so very proud of you and your success! I almost feel like an aunty! Keep me posted!

I was reading that you're supposed to avoid certain food colorings, i.e. Yellow 6. But Yellow 6 seems to be in so many things (Like Cheetos :( ).

I know I shouldn't probably get too concerned about it, but does anyone know if this is something we should watch out for?

Thanks,
Julie
