Success Stories after two miscarriages

Hi - I have just lost a second baby in 4 months at 12 weeks (also had a miscarriage in July). I just wondered if there were any success stories after having two miscarriages that would cheer me up? Thanks. Vicky

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Can't offer any words of encouragement as I am still awaiting my BFP after 2 early pregnancy losses, but just wanted to send love and thoughts and I have heard of many women having multiple miscarriages before carrying a baby to term, at least this is what I have been told with all my disappointments. I think the key is investigation as to why it's happening. Have they told you why this might be occuring? I am presuming you have done all the testing.
Take it easy and look after yourself.

Thank you for replying. No - so far I have just been told that it is not uncommon to have two miscarriages and they won;t investigate until I've had three. It's all just so ironic as my fertility problems are meant to - or have been that I have had blocked tubes. I then discovered that one tube had miraculously cleared which I was over joyed about but now I 've had 2 miscarriages from natural conceptions. I was pregnant the first time I had an embryo to transfer with IVF (which was after 5 proceedures - long story) and had a completely uneventful pregnancy with my baby boy -Oliver (now 18 mths). So I thought that the difficulty would be conceiving again not keeping the baby there! Good luck to you. I really hope your successful soon. Love Vicky x

I was so sorry to read about your recent problems, I really feel for you. I hope you are doing ok. There is a really good website - the miscarriage association that has very good leaflets. I found them really helpful after mine.

Re testing: I had a miscarriage earlier this year and was told the 3 miscarriages before investigation thing. My view was that at my advancing years I can't afford (emotionally let alone everything else) to have another 2. So, me and dh had the screening tests for recurrent miscarriage done - we paid and it cost about £180 each. I had a HSG (£200ish) and I had various autoantibodies done and karyotype (looking at my chromosomes) and dh had karyotyping done. The only abnormal result was dh was found to have a genetic problem - chromosome 8 inversion. We were told that not much was known about this type of defect and it could mean nothing or it could mean that he could never have children or if we did we would have recurrent miscarriage or children with birth defects. We were stunned. The short of it is, they now think (after his family having tests) that it is probably not an issue as far as fertility goes. I'm telling you this story as I think if I'd known how things were going to go, I don't think I would have bothered with the testing. We have had 2 months of agony over this, particularly my dh and are only semi-reassured. So little is known about many genetic issues and fertility, part of me feels this has only served to make me even more nervous about next cycle and delayed the next cycle.
Anyway, sorry if this is a bit negative. You are right, miscarriage is common, sadly. For positivity I know lots of women who have had a miscarriage or 2 or more and had children, Macca8 who used to post here - I'm sure had more than 2 and gave birth a good few months ago.

Don't give up my sweet! I reckon 2008 will be a bumper year for the ladies on this here forum.

I read your posts and am so sorry to hear about your losses. I had 4 mc's!! And now am happily pregnant almost 25 weeks with twins I went through the infertitliy work-up after 2 mc's and that is becoming the standard rather then waiting until 3. On average, work-up involves - blood clotting panel, anti-body panel, imaging - usually hsg, karyotyping (chromosomal analysis), luteal phase defect workup (biopsy), hormonse panel. Even after all that at mc #2, they missed a very simple problem with me. I had a septum that can increase mc rate up to 85%. I also had high fsh, and luteal phase defect. My current RE was suspicious of a uterine septum when he learned the shape of my uterus was arcuate (heart shaped) and a simple hysteroscopy found it and he removed it. My prior RE had attributed everything to high fsh (12), but in your early 30s studies haven't proven a correlation between that and poor egg quality Poor egg quality is a very common reason for mc when you are older or have had various treatments (chemo) etc.

Anyway, I am totally rambling and hope I haven't thoroughly confused you. I am glad I got tested. A simple start could be the blood work for the most common causes of recurrent mc (like blood clotting issues) and you could go from there. You may get pregnatn in the mean time I got pregnant quick my first 2 pregnancies naturally. The rest were with meds.

Have hope!!!! If I'm sitting here with 2 very healthy twins after 4 mcs (plus one ruptured ectopic) it is very possible. I wish you tons of luck and loads of babydust.

I had 4 miscarriages too and now I'm looking at my 3 week old baby boy. My problem was likely poor egg quality. All it takes is one good egg and one good sperm. Just when we lost all hope of having a child of our own, we got pregnant last January. Don't give up hope!

Daly - It's great to hear your progressing so well especially after your terrible loss - not too much longer now.

Kelly - Congratulations on the birth of your baby boy. This will no doubt be your best Christmas ever - if a little tiring!

It's really interesting to hear your different perspectives on testing. I am in two minds about it as the first time I MC I was 10 days into a FET - and had not realised I had incredibly become pregnant naturally. By the time I realised I had been injecting Buserelin for 10 days and miscarried shortly after finding out. It was then discovered that one of my very blocked tubes had somehow managed to unblock itself.

In my mind now I am really hoping (although of course I feel/felt terrible about it) that the fisrt MC was down to the Buserelin - I have read that it stops your production of oestrogen & Progesterone so I thought that was a likely reason. I am of scrabbling around for something that implies that there isn't something else wrong with me as well as an inability to get the egg from A to B.

I have now booked an appt with my consultant (same as you Lola - I think - S. Lavery) next Thursday to see what he thinks about all this. In my heart of hearts I am hoping he says that this just really common and I should go away and try naturally again but we'll see.
