Anyone else get depressed before first IVF?

Post by boo1 »

I feel so discouraged. My husband doesn't really say much about it but I know it's because he thinks it won't work. I also feel like I'm decreasing my chances because I'm feeling so pessimistic. But surely that can't be true. I was so excited about trying all these months and THAT didn't get me pregnant.

Am I nuts?

Boo1,

I'm sorry you're feeling down. This is my first IVF as well and there are times when I feel so discouraged and scared. I think those are natural feelings. I lost a pregnancy last year and the sadness comes back every now and then, that's why I decided to join this forum, the folks here are the only ones who know exactly what I am going through. Please know that you are not alone. Sending healing thoughts your way.

Don't be discouraged we all go through the feeling of being alone. If you have good doctors and support go for it. I will be starting ivf in March 08 with the bc pills to begin in Feb 08. We can go through this together if you are starting soon, it will nice to have a buddy.

Thanks, y'all. I started getting stressed out about doing the shots (I start those tomorrow) and my DH said some really hurtful things to me, like "if this is so important to you, why do you wait until the night before to figure out how to do this, and what kind of mother will you be if you can't even remember how to give yourself medicine?". I couldn't believe it. He's wonderful 95% of the time, but when he is an ass, he is an all out ass. I told him (after I sobbed for an hour) that I was just afraid that I would do it wrong. What a jerk. The injections class was 2 weeks ago and I had to go alone. It's a lot to remember when it's so important.

I picked up a prescription for Zoloft today, guess I'll start those again, but I didn't want to take them. I guess I don't have a choice.

Thanks for listening,
Laura

Hi Laura,

I hear you when you talk about dh being a jerk sometimes. I think they can all be jerks once in a while. I think it's their own frustration with this entire process; sometimes partners don't know what to do, after all our bodies are the ones going through all the changes, etc, etc.

I think that it has to do with the way men are socialized since they are little boys...most of them don't know how to express their feelings in an honest way. It would be so much easier if they came to us and said "I'm scared too." The day my dh and I found out we were loosing our baby, we came back home from the doctor's office, I went to our room to cry for the rest of the day, and guess what he did? he cleaned the entire house!! something he had never done before. I had to finally sit him down and push him to tell me exactly how he was feeling, after that things were so much easier.

Anyway, hang in there sister friend. Hugs.
