IVF in process

Post by phoebe »

I am currently going through my 2nd IVF process. I went to the Dr. today for my first ultrasound and blood test. I have to go back on Monday for another one. They told me that I may need to stop, again, because my estrogen levels are low. Does anyone know what this means? Is there anything I can do to improve it? Should I seek a second opinion? HELP!!

Hi Phoebe,
I have had two attempts at IVF, and both times, my RE cancelled my cycle due to low estrogen levels. How many days have you been on the stims? You need at least 150 for every mature follicle. What is your level? Usually at 3 to 4 days they are looking for a number somewhere at around 100. I am no expert, but this is my understanding after going thru this twice.
Keep your head up; there are lot's of things they can try to get your body going. Also, you could just be a slow starter. You could go back next time and things could turn around.

wishing you the best,

They didn't tell me what my number is. The last time, it was below 100 and they said that it is lower this time. When you say stims, do you mean the gonal f? I started my lupron and saizen on 11/20. I started the gonal f and menopur on the 22nd. I go back for my 2nd bloodtest and ultrasound tomorrow. Hopefully, I'm just a slow starter.

I don't totally understand it but I think when you start stimulating the ovaries, your estrogen levels should go up. So, they do a blood test and ultrasound. The blood test checks your estrogen levels and I don't know what else. Because my estrogen levels were low, they stopped the IVF cycle. They need to be at a certain level to continue. I don't know what causes the low levels or how to improve it. I don't know if there is anything else I can do. If you know or find out, can you let me know? Thanks!
