My clinic doesn't seem to believe in blood tests although they would do one if I really wanted but I've decided not. They just booked a scan for 13th Dec.

Hi Ladies,

Just a little update from me. I got the results from the karyotyping today. It turns out there was something wrong with the baby (who I now know was a girl) - Trisomy 13. My husband and I were also karyotyped, and are genetically normal. So it turns out my miscarriage was one of those things that is unfortunately more common over 35, but is random. It does feel oddly good to know there was a reason for this; babies with Trisomy 13 usually don't make it to birth, and those that do typically die within the first month.

I'm planning on TTC naturally for a couple of months - I don't want to have to stress about snow keeping me from getting to the clinic. I expect I'll start IVF #2 sometime around Feb/March.

Congrats to those with BFPs, and hugs to those who haven't gotten good news.
DH & I both 37
IVF #1 8/2007: BFP, but M/C at 11 weeks due to Trisomy 13
2008: 6 IVFs canceled - poor response
IVF #2 2/2009: 2 embryos transferred, BFN
Mid-2009: 4 more IVFs canceled - poor response
IVF #3 10/2009: BFP, hoping it sticks this time!

Grey,
I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your little girl. My heart goes out to you. I'm glad that you were able to find out why, instead of being left just wondering what went wrong. I think it's a wise decision to not try any ART's for a while to let yourself heal. God bless you & I hope someday you will be rewarded with another child to love.

Update on myself: I just completed another round of IVF and got my BFP on Wed -beta 437. On Friday I went to get my 2nd beta -it was only 697. So now I have to go back tom for another beta to see if the pregnancy is going to make it. I'm on pins & needles. It seems like one step forward & one step back. They transferred 2 grade A blastocysts, I wonder if my # didn't double because 2 attatched then one got "absorbed." I'm just hoping for good news tom.

I hope the rest of our old group is doing well. Pumma, I see your name a lot on a current thread so I guess your in the middle of a round of IVF now.

2ndtimer - congrats on your bfp!! I will be waiting to hear about your next beta! The numbers sound strong - even though it didn't double - so I am sure that you have one in there holding on tight!!! I know what you mean about the ups and downs. Just as you get excited you get news that makes you worried again. But hang in there, they also say that the numbers take 48-72 hours to double so yours just might be taking that extra 24 hours!!

Grey - I am sorry to hear about your little girl, but as you said it is nice to know why. It is also good to know that you and your DH are fine so you can try on your own and then go back to IVF if need be.

My DH and I have turned to donor eggs after our last failed cycle. We will be traveling to Czech Republic in January to have the transfer done and I can hardly wait. I sure hope that this is the solution to our repeated failues. If not, I don't know what we'll do. But in the meantime, I can rest all my hope on our Jan trip. They found a donor that is remarkably similar to myself and she has donated twice before - both women got pregnant! I hope that I am the lucky third!

Thinking of you all!

2ndtimer: congratulations on your bfp, i am so happy for you. i don't know exactly about the numbers but i wouldn't worry too much. i think the numbers you have know sound great.

Gray: sorry about your loss; i was pregnant with twins earlier this year and we also did karyotyping and they found trisomy 11 on one of them, which was a boy the second was a girl and normal, but i could have also been my genes, so we'll never know, but it is nice to know why it did not work out. good luck to you.

i am stimming right now and have my retrieval on 12/11, with a tentative transfer of either the 14th or later.

much baby dust to everyone.

Evening all…

Squeezan, congrats and good luck for the 13th

Grey – I’m so sorry to hear of your loss, good idea to leave it a few months before going through IVF again, it takes it’s toll enough with a BFN let alone a m/c too… Best of luck to you, I’m going to try again next year so maybe we will be on a thread together…

Joy42, go with your heart… good luck…

Pummaleamma, hope all is going well with your retrieval today?

2nd timer –well done – looks like you are on the way to a nice long pregnancy!

Kellym – the donor option sounds positive – hope the trip goes well…

I'm waiting for my follow up meeting on Feb 5th so am enjoying the stress free bit until then

Lots of festive baby dust to you all
