query to you all re egg-quality

Post by beckym »

hi there. this is a message from the other side. hope you can help reassure an old buddy. I know that it doesn't really matter whether you have grade 1, 2 or 3 embies to put back, as a number of you have proved, but what about the rate of cell division pre transfer? our embies last time were incredibly slow at dividing and we only got 1 grade 5 and 1 grade 4 to put back on day 3 and none to freeze out of 25 eggs and 13 embies. we are doing ICSI due to mf. This time we got 31 eggs and only 10 have fertilized on day 1 and am just worried that this is going to be a repeat of the last cycle with poor division performance. have any of you got pregnant with embies that were less than 5/6 cells at et? beckym xxx

Hi Kirsty,

My clinic didn't say what grade the embryos were, but the first time I had IVF, we had 2 x 3 cell embryos transferred, unfortunately it failed. This time, we had 2 x 4 cell embryos put back and one took, am now nearly 27 weeks. Both these results were the day after egg collection/ICSI, and were put back the following day.
I have severe endo but my DH has poor sperm, hence the ICSI, so this time I made him stop drinking and take loads of vitamins to boost his sperm quality, but when I spoke to the consultant he said that sperm quality differs from day to day so unfortunately it can be a bit pot luck. Just remember, you only need one so keep your chin up and best of luck!

Love Sally xxx
