I'm going through my first IVF ICSI at the moment.
Well today I had my ER (not as bad as all that) and we were told we got 17 eggs after 9 days of stimming - sounded OK to me. The downside however was that only 7 were mature
Unfortunately my RE wasn't around so couldn't ask any questions as to why so few were mature. Has anybody else had this? I'm hoping it's just a question of adjusting the protocole next time and prolonging the stims and triggering a bit later so the eggs have more time to mature. If anyone can shed any more light it would be great
Hi Frenchy,
7 is definitely enough to work with, so congratulations on that. But I would ask why they didn't let the stimulation period go on for another few days to get more. Maybe they had a reason? I don't know, but it would be good to ask.
Best of luck with your embies!

i had the same problem with both of my cycles....first cycle, i had 15 eggs and only 5 were mature. second cycle, i had 19 eggs and only 10 were mature.
i thought that maybe the clinic hadnt left me long enough first time round and didnt let my follies get big enough so i pushed them to let me go extra time second time round. they did and i ended up with more but still a large number of immature eggs. they said to me the chances are that this is just the way my eggs are and there is nothing they can do about it. (the fact they left me as long as i had hoped proves that)
but good thing...i still got a BFP out of it!!! so there is hope!
hope this helps...if you have any more questions please let me know.
and good luck!!!

Thanks for the replies guys and nice to see we can get BFPs even with quite a few immature eggs among the good'uns.
I did wonder if they affected quality so it seems not! Might ask my RE to prolong my protocol next time to see if it makes a difference, but like you say it could just be one of those things.
Anyway we find out Friday if any eggs have become embies so fingers crossed we get lucky . Loads of luck and baby dust to everyone!
