How soon were you able to find out the sex of the baby?

Post by Michellyn8 »

Hi,

I need to set up an ultrasound between weeks 16-18. I am hoping to find out the sex then, but not sure if that it still too early. I was wondering when other people were able to find out.

Thank you,

Michelle

I am pg with twins and I have just gone through this with mine. Are you geting regular ultrasounds or is this it for a while? I get them every week and at 16 weeks she was like I think that this is what they are and then by 18 weeks she was like oh yes a boy and a girl no question. I know it stinks to wait but the closer you can make the appt to the 18 week mark the more confident they will be. This is just to give you the best answer. I know that they are able to tell early on but it is better to wait to be SURE!!!! It will be worth the wait. They still may get it wrong at 16 weeks or they may have it right without the certainty. If you are planning on shopping for them and all....I was so excited I went right to babies R us!! Then my advice is 18 weeks!!! Hope this helps....

Depends on the ultrasound machine. With my first pregnancy, we found out at 13 weeks. This would be way too early with a normal ultrasound, but we had a 4D with Genzyme (they do US all day long) so they could predict with relative certainty by this point.

This time, we went in for our 4d at 11.5 weeks with Genzyme and our DR could only give us a "prediction" -- one boy and one girl. We aren't allowed to decorate our nursery based on it, though as we are too early even for a 4d.

We go in for a 16 wk us and should have definite confirmation by then. Again, this is only because we are using a 4D very advanced machine. My OB could not determine sex at this early age through use of her normal US machine.

I can't wait to confirm the sex either. I'm praying and praying for at least one little girl.

At 13 weeks we could for sure make out the boys, they said 85% sure the 3rd was a girl. At 16 weeks my peri did a sono and he confirmed the 3rd was a girl. At 18 weeks OB saw girl too and showed me what they were looking at. The boys I could for sure see but the girl is so different.

I bet by 16-18 weeks if the baby cooperates you should be able to tell.
Good luck!

Thank you for the replies! It is so exciting to hear about everyone finding out. Also it is very encouraging that everyone with multiples sounds like they got a boy and a girl. There is a teeny tiny part of me that wishes I could hold out for a surprise but since I can barely wait another 4 weeks I don't see that happening. We are scheduled for the 27th which puts me at just about 18 weeks....so I will just spend the time imagining every scenario and why each one is good.

yest it depends on the US....and we found out the first baby was a boy at week 12 and found out the girl was around week 16. With twins they sent us to a High risk specialist and his US was much better than the normal.
