Chriss: I go to NYU in NY and they prefer to do day 5 transfer. They orginally wanted day 5, but I knew from past experience only a few would survive, and I wanted to transfer more than what we had in the past, so I asked for a day 3 and that's what we got. Hopefully, this will be it for us.

Please keep us posted.

We will be thinking of you JenB! Have fun.

Gracie and all others... What more can you tell me about placement for ET? I have a tilted uterus and they actually sewed a string on my cervix yesterday so that during ET, they can use it to help move uterus. Crazy, huh? Both IVF procedures prior I've been under anesthesia for transfers because of uterus tilt and they need me to relax. Seems like I have so many issues! ... DH sperm problems, aging eggs, blood clotting disorder and tilted uterus. Yow. But that's ok, one day this will work. -chriss

JenB - have a wonderful time delivering your gifts of christmas cheer! enjoy the time away with your friends and family!

to gracielope2 - hang in there with the 2ww - just a week to go!! for this cycle that got cancelled, I was going to be doing the so-called long protocol (after 2 tries with a short protocol), but I've never been on bcp's before starting. I assume my RE will try this long protocol again when the time is right. Just counting down the days till I can get my thyroid tested again and see where I'm at after the adjustment of my meds...I assume I'll have to wait to make sure it is stable -- but, I've waited this long, would rather the conditions be at their best than rush right in...I also had high prolactin levels and take something for that as well and that is thankfully under control...didn't know I had so many problems till DH and I tried to get pregnant...
wishing you all the best for your test next Wednesday. Hope to read about your BFP!!

chriss - best of luck with et this week!! wow - 6 fertilized!! great!! sorry that I can't offer any advice about the sperm questions. thinking of you and hoping you have lots of strong embies snuggling in, in a few days!

DJB - lots of baby dust to you this coming week! the 2nd week is always 10x as long as the first...hope you are able to keep busy, yet find time to relax -- so easy to say, I know...keep us posted and keep up the pma!

to yasmina - so nice of you to be so active here these days and to give such helpful and thoughtful advice to everyone. how is eloise? has she decided to give milk a try in daycare/preschool? I can remember never wanting to drink milk at school, it just didn't taste the same as it did at home...

hi to sonia, tammy, andrea, catharine (any news on the hcg levels??), BigJ, Anna, LuAnne+2(what is new with you and the little ones?)! Sorry if I've missed anyone - I am thinking of you all.

DJB, GRACIELOPE, & CHRISS
How exciting to have all 3 of you at this stage right now. I am excited to read about your BFP'S!!! :D Just hang in there! Maybe it is good there are so many holiday things going on this time of year. It may help take your mind off your 2WW. Just imagine next holiday season with a new little one (or two) in your home.

CHRISS
I've heard clinics clearly state success rates using ICSI are virtually the same as success rates w/no male factor. Count isn't an issue w/ICSI as they only need a few sperms. Even men w/zero sperm count can undergo a minor surgical procedure (sperm aspiration) on retrieval day to give the lab a few sperms to use. I saw a television episode where Dr. Silber (St. Louis, MO) did this procedure. As for morphology; our 1st clinic told us DH had abnormal morphology & they would do ICSI, only to have the next clinic say DH did not have any male factor issues, but they do ICSI anyway as it gives a higher fertilization rate. You didn't mention motility so that must be good, but again, ICSI would get around that too. I wouldn't worry too much about that or your "tilted uterus" either. I have a friend w/a tilted uterus & she has 4 children. (If you weren't undergoing ET you may never even have found that out.) It's important the ET go smoothly so your clinic is being extra careful. They don't want to disturb your uterus which could cause cramping. It's good they are so proactive. They may be more cautious than necessary, but the clinics that take the extra precautions have better success rates. Each of those extra precautions is the magic bullet for some couple.

AMY
It is good your clinic was paying attention to detail & had you wait for a better time to cycle. My previous clinic allowed me to proceed when they probably should have waited. (totally different issue)

HELLO & HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO EVERYONE ELSE TOO!!!
I don't have much to report here. I went to the OB this week, just routine, everything still okay. I have an U/S which should tell us the sex of the little ones on the 20th. I am excited to know, so I can think about names, choose colors for their room, etc.

Hi Everyone-

So many posts, so hard for me to keep up with.

Lots of baby dust to Chriss and Gracie :D

Chriss you asked about fragmentation. My DH has low sperm count, poor morphology and motility as well. Last May/June he had extra tests done by a company by the name Repromedix. http://www.repromedix.com/forpatients/o ... ients.html His urologist, who works with our RE, ordered them. They tested for sperm DNA fragmentations and Y chromosome microdeletions. In the long run everything came back in our favor. Like ya'll we always do ICSI because of the 'male factor'. As for whether it's a good idea or not I'm not certain. I do know that the microdeletion is passed down to the next [male-Y chromosome] generation [potentially passing infertility to next generation]and here's a site on fragmentation www.touchbriefings.com/pdf/1322/SCSA.pdf

Quick update on myself. hCG only dropped a few points from the last test :( no worries, the good news is it is dropping :) it just seems like it is taking it's sweet time. I'm trying really hard not to get anxious over this. The positives: no AF to deal with, boobs still big. The negatives: I have constent conjestion and runny nose. At least my body seems to enjoy this pseudo-pregnant state, aye. Will test again next week. In the meantime, keeping up with acupuncture, DHEA, and exercise. Looking forward to 2008.

Wishing everyone well. Lots of PMA to ya'll.

Chriss: My uterus is tilted as well. RE says it's normal, even made a joke and said we are all tilted. As far as framentation I'm not sure. Catherine covered it well, I learned something today. How are you hanging in there! I'm back and forth. Excited and scared at the same time.

Amy: You have high prolactin too, it really stinks doesn't it. The good thing is both the thyroid and prolactin can be stablized. I definitely agree with you on making sure your thryroid is stable before your next protocol. Everything happens for a reason, maybe waiting a little is what you needed to your BFP. It's a good thing we have the opportunity and the Dr's that can help with whatever issues we have that's making it difficult for some of us to conceive.

Yasmina: Thanks again for sharing. I really appreciate it. You had mentioned that you took the HPT test - before the blood work. Did it come out postiive? I'm so tempted, but I'm scared so that is what stops me.

Caharine: It's good news that the HCG is dropping, maybe not as fast as you want it too. But the good news is ITS DROPPING. WHOA!!!! Maybe it will start slow and just go down fast... I hope!!!!

Luanne: I was hoping being that it's the holiday that I wouldn't be thinking so much. But, it's so freaking hard. Thanks for your words of encouragment. BTW: How are you feeling? Have you gotten any bigger?

Big Hello to everyone else.

Gracie & DJB – our brave 2wwers – the first week is already over so hang on in there and keep thinking happy thoughts. Getting excited for you.

Chriss – Good luck for your transfer on Friday! Thinking of you and wishing you all the best.
Sorry, I can’t help you with sperm testing or with day 3 versus day 5 transfer (never had more than one embryo to juggle with) but I knew you would be getting plenty of feedback from the wise ladies here. Sending you some relaxing vibes and lots of baby dust.

JenB – hope I’m not too late to wish you a fun time away with family and friends. Can’t promise I’ll be on my 2ww when you get back but I’m working on it.

Catharine – good to hear from you. Keep looking on the bright side of things. :D

Yasmina – I’ve been wondering why you stopped yoga after ET and on the 1st trimester. Is that what is generally recommended? Hope all’s well with you and Eloise.

Keep up the high spirits everyone. It’s working wonders on me…
Love to everyone.

Gracie - Yea I got a 2ww buddy! How are you doing? Hanging in there? I am wishing you all the luck!

I too am trying to keep busy with holiday stuff. My 80 yr old mother was diagnosed with cancer so I take her to radiation treatment every day and chemo once a week. She is doing well but long term prognosis not looking too good. I sure hope I can give her her 1st grandchild!

To everyone else - thank you for all your support.

I am going to study everybody's stuff this weekend so I can get familiar with everyone and be able to post comments to everyone. There are some many wonderful people on this board.

DJB: Sorry to hear about your grandmother. I'm sure it must be really hard for you. Talk about having your mind occupied with something else. I hope and pray it works for you. I'm hanging in there. I'm extremely anxious, and I know that doesn't help matters. Each day it has been a struggle not to purchase the HPT. Wednesday is our big day, I'm taking off of work, but the thought of waiting for that call, is making me sick already, and it's not even here yet. I hate the anticipation. That's what kills me. Sonia said to think Happy thoughts.....I try to imagine myself getting bigger, and telling myself that I actually have a miracle growing inside me. I try to imagine myself holding a new born baby, I'm back and forth like a ping pong ball.

CHRISS: GOOD LUCK WITH ET TODAY!

Sonia,

I did not practice Yoga on the first Tri because that was the most vulnerable period for miscarriage. Many pg women who practice Yoga daily and they don't have to stop during pg. I only picked it up few weeks prior to ivf cycles, I did not dare to think that Yoga was part of my routine then. I run (not during pg) and swim (not in the first tri) relative regularly also, but I always feel tired afterwards. However, a good practice of Yoga is like a good night sleep to me. I actually feel refreshed each time.

Amy,

I guess that you have already looked that up: thyroid problem and high prolactin are not uncommon among us "infertile" women. Many of us have not checked and never know whether we have the same problems or not. The good thing is that your RE intends to proceed at your best health condition to ensure the money is well-spent. I am glad that you decided to resume Yoga. It is not easy to add this to our daily busy schedule. I sent you the Yoga link meaning to suggest you do only that specific posture for thyroid gland. Now I know that you already practiced Yoga before, you may feel like doing more.

Thanks for asking about Eloise. It turns out that she either has not cleared the bacteria in her ears since the last ear infection or she was re-infected recently. We only found that out after she cried a whole night long! We have to treat her again with stronger antibiotics this time - she drinks some milk now at daycare (~6oz/8 hrs).

Gracie and Chriss,

I did HPT after 7th day and every day after that, twice a day. I don't believe that HPT can do any harm to me or to my baby. Knowing a pg can give neg readings on HPT, it shouldn't stress you more than waiting and guessing. To me, HPTs prepare me better for the coming news either way - good or bad. However, many women choose not to touch the evil sticks, I understand and respect that.

JenB,

It is always nice to read your posts. You have a very colorful life and it is nice to keep such close contact with the family and friends.

LuAnne,

You are so calm with two babies in the oven! I remember all I did was whinning and worrying when I was pg w only one baby! I can't wait and see what they are now. Two girls, two boys, or a girl and a boy?

Catharine,

Looks like your body really wants you to take a break, it may sense that it is holiday season. It is good though that things are moving towards right direction. Hope you get there soon!

Tammy and Bev, how are you two?

Anna, agree with you, whenever you think you get things under control, things change! We just have to learn, endlessly.

DJB,

Sorry about your grandmother. Take care of your self also in the mean time of taking care of her. You know that you are lucky to have a grandmother. I never had one, I even didn't have a mother for very long! They all died very young!

Weekend is close, hang in there and enjoy, everyone!

Hi all

Just popping in to wish Chriss, Grace and DJB all the best of luck for the 2WW!!!

Chriss - Is a tilted uterus the same as a retroverted one? Tying string to your uterus sounds unbelievably complicated - you poor thing. But as long as it did the trick! I have a retroverted uterus. I was told that it would pose no problems in getting pregnant (and I did get pregnant once!), nor does it pose any risk in carrying a baby to full term. The only thing different my RE does is tilt the operating table back at quite an angle for ET that I have to tell the nurses to catch me should I come hurtling off head first!!!

Catharine - Great to hear your levels are finally dropping. Good on you for keeping up with the DHEA and exercise.

DJB - sorry to hear about your mum. A BFP would be lovely news for her as well at this time.

JenB - Have a fab time in Glasgow babe! Sounds like fun.

Luanne - I bet your dying to find out the sex of your twins - as we all are! Let us know on the 20th!

Since deciding to use donor eggs, I've been on a bit of a high, rather relieved that a decision has been made and I can get on with things now. But I had a bit of a down day yesterday, with the "what if" scenarios rearing its ugly head, and the feeling that I've squandered the whole year away and achieved nothing...I keeping telling myself I just need to 'get over' me!! I know I will, and I am really lucky to have the chance to use DE where I am, and have a supportive DH etc etc, and of course, all you fabulous women here who understand all this so well...!

Having said that, I think we should all go out and make the most of this Xmas silly season this year, because, who knows, next year, we may all be tied down with little ones of our own...!

Hi to Amy, Yasmina, Sonia and all - Hope you're all enjoying your weekends!
