I´m about to embark on ICSI for the second time, having been extremely lucky first time round. During the first cycle I used decapeptyl as my supression drug and found the sub cutaneous injections really painful - I suppose hating injections didn`t help! Anyway this time round my gyn said that I could use synarel which is a nasal spray instead. I just wanted to know if anyone else had used it and if so how they got on with it?

Hi Daisy1,
I have used SYNAREL for my first IVF cycle and it worked a treat. Some clinics use the spray, others use the injections. If you're sensitive to lots of sneezing, they sometimes suggest the injections as that way they know you are getting the exact amount. However, I never had any problem with the spray and would have preferred to have used it on my next cycle instead of the injections.
After a while you might feel a little sensitivity at the back of your throat and nostrils and a bit of a yucky taste from time to time but it quickly subsides. It's also a lot easier to take off and have a "sniff" than prepare injections and I found it fit in with my life much better.
Good luck,
Dexter

Hi, I used Synarel for my first and only IVF (I now have 6 month old twin boys!!!) and had no problems with it. It just tasted yucky when you sinff it. It seems to be the drug of choice here in Australia.
Best of luck with your cycle.

Wow it really does seem that 9 out of 10 Australian gynys prefer synarel!!! Thanks so much for your prompt replies. I have 2 probs - the first is that I have a tendency to sneeze alot (which xrayem pointed out as a negative) and am really allergic to dust and the second is that i`m highly supersitious!! So I`m at real logger heads as to what to do. If it worked first time round with the injections why change? but I found the whole injection thing extremely stressful. Perhaps I should have another chat with my gyny about the sneezing thing and see if he steers me away from using synarel. I don`t start my next cycle til the new year so it`ll give me plenty of time to think, think and think a bit more!! x

i used synarel with both of my cycles and never had any problems. i had a really bad cold second time round when i was sniffing and called the clinic more than once panicking but it was fine. as long as you dont sneeze straight after you have sniffed, its absolutely fine as your nose absorbs the spray more or less straight away.
good luck for the new year!!
