Good Morning Girls-

Kim- yes Aubrey is on solid foods... she's doing really well with them (except on day 3). I have been giving her the same food for 3 days to see if she develops an allergic reaction to them - so far so good. However, by day 3 she gets bored of the same food... I don't think that has anything to do with her waking up - since she eats her cereal & fruits/veggies in the afternoon. I'm thinking her teeth are coming very soon... actually the sitter tapped her gums w/ a spoon last week and could hear them in there.

Well Aubrey is doing very well... she had her 6 month check up this past Saturday and is weighing in at 17lbs. 14 1/2 oz. - our little chunker (but it's so cute). She is also measuring at 27 1/2 inches long... maybe she'll be our little super model. We also had our 1st Flu Shot this Saturday... she did really well (she had a slight fever, but nothing a little Motrine couldn't help).

Well time to run.... hope all of your little ones are doing well.

Tasha

hi there girls... hope that everyone is doing well.... we are doing ok... Gavin had his 6 month check up today and got his shots (the flu also) and he weighed in at just about the same as aubrey 17lbs 15oz and 27 1/2inches.... we'll have to go back in 4 weeks for the flu booster

tasha- sorry to hear that aubrey is waking up... Gavin is still not sleeping through the night, i hope that she goes back to sleeping better...have you tried a little tylenol or motrin before bed... i also use some teething tablets, they are all natural and homeopathic i found them at walgreens.. they helped him alot.... gavin is not a good teether.... his bottom two are very in, and now i'm feeling the one top one trying to poke through... as for food.... i know that you do the same new food for 3 days, but you can also give her foods that she has already had.... like i give gavin the new food and one that he has already had... he too can not stand the same thing 3x a day for days (i try the new for 4 days)... we also have to make sure that he is getting enough fruit, otherwise he gets really constipated... we are finally almost done with all the new foods... we are on stage 2 for some of the stuff.... he likes it a little thicker, and i add cereal to almost all foods... (it's my hope that it will eventually make him sleep through the night.... )

kim-as for using the exersaucer.... it usually depends on the kid... some like them, others do not... i think that rule wise... they should not use them once they are walking, but they will usually let you know when they are done with them..... i think that since she is due in january, but the time her baby needs the exersaucer your will probably be close to being done.. as for the gym..... gavin doesn't stay put on it, so i put mine away.... it was a waste to put him on it, and he was gone before i walked away... he's rather be rolling around the room playing with the sofa feet or anything else that is not an actual toy.... he is trying to crawl... but his head is too big (it's in the 90%+) he'll get his legs moving and his head comes crashing down... it's very funny to watch, but it pisses him off.... he gets upset really easy.. your babies will be on solids soon enough.... hope that they enjoy it.... most babies do...

nicola- glad to hear that jack is doing good.... we got our christmas stuff up this last weekend... i love christmas too... i too look down and it's hard to imagine without him.... i love it when he is sleeping on me... and he'll make the cutest little sigh....

well, girls... hoppe that you are all well and take care

Tasha--good luck with the teeth. I know we're all going to be dealing with that very soon. I swear ours have to be close! Aubrey is such a big girl, huh? I'm glad the shots went okay. We'll be doing the same thing next Friday. Last time didn't go so well, so I'm taking the day off work to provide some extra tlc.

Colleen--Thanks for the tips about the equipment. My kids still love to play with both items. So, maybe by Feb. or March, we'll be done with at least one? Braden could just bat around at the toys for ever. Ellie on the other hand gets very fussy. She seems to want attention (or change activities)ALL THE TIME. Which, of course, is impossible. I'm trying to make her wait a while before going to her, but it's hard!

It sounds like Gavin's doing great as well! Nearly 3 teeth already? Wow....does that make bfing hurt? Yikes! It scares me....

Well, gotta run. DH had to run some errands, so I have a ton of bottles to wash and make for tomorrow. fun fun fun.

We'll all need to post some pics of our little elves soon! We're getting our 6 month shots next Monday! CAn't wait! :) :) :)

tasha--we've joined the "waking up for teeth" club....love it! Tylenol seems to do the trick, though.

We're off to breakfast with Santa tomorrow. The twins club is hosting it at a local country club--I might be nuts for taking them to it...we'll see!

Hope you all are well. I know we're all busy right now. Happy Christmas shopping!

quick question gals...mine just started solids. They're eating a small amount of rice cereal in the morning and evening (maybe @ 1 tsp or so?of the dry cereal mixed with formula). They're not really digging it, but we're managing to get some down. Here's the thing---they're drinking WAY less formula than they used to (like 10 or more oz. less?). I expected they'd eat a little less, but they're really not eating that much rice cereal to make them less hungry. At least I don't think they are? Is this normal? Or should I be concerned? Or just wait it out until they get used to the cereal? They used to eat around 30+ oz every day. Now, I can barely get 20 into them.???

Thanks for any help! :?: :?: :?:

Kim - They are fine. When Makayla started solids, she did the same. She completely eliminated one feeding session. As for the cereal, about every three days you can introduce a new item. I do not force her to eat the same item for every meal, but at least once every day for three days. My suggestion is to try bananas next mixed with the cereal and make it thicker. Makayla prefers her cereal to be thick and clumpy. This way she can keep it in her mouth better and spend time tasting it. She has never liked liquidy baby food. I thicken most of her baby food. Also, do you still have frozen breastmilk? If you do, try making the cereal it. Breastmilk is much sweeter than formula. Give the solids time. Makayla is still on mostly cereal and friut daily. We are introducing vegetables and meats, but she is not real receptive to them. Aslo, do not worry about their eating habits now. My boys were picky babies, but now they eat anything and everything. My boys even love artichokes and brussel sprouts. It is more about persistance. Do not force the foods and make it stressful, but keep introducing a small amount regularly and eventually they will take it. The tastebuds are still maturing and change even through their teenage years.

Colleen - It seems that Gavin is leveling out! As for the teeth, you are so lucky. Makayla has bee drooling and fusing for over a month and there are no signs of teeth. I am glad to see so many are taking the flu vacine. I am a firm believer in the vacine and my boys have had them for years. Makayla will also get one because my oldest and I have asthma that is worsened by illness.

Tasha - Good luck with the teeh. Both Aubrey and Gavin seem to be neck and neck. Makayla is also around 17 lbs. We have our 6 month appointment on Tuesday.

Nicola - God Bless you and Jack. I am so glad you are so enthralled. I had a really hard start with Makayla, but I am now so very proud. The challenges are less now and she is finally settling down. She is my pride and joy (along with her brothers) and the whole family is happy. Love to you and your whole blessed family!

Casy - I hope your proceedure went well. When will you know the results? I bet Joshua is getting really big. As for your DD and DS being different, I think it is a gender/child thing. My daughter was very different from my sons. She is a real busy bee and the boys were really lazy!

Angellica - I hope Roman is doing well and you are staying happy and busy.

We are doing great. Makayla is trying really hard to crawl and she is picking herself up with the coffee table. She stands for a few minutes and then plops down to do it all over again. She cries as she tries to crawl and yet she refuses to give up. She zips around the house in her walker as well. We are getting ready to drive to Florida for Christmas. There will be three generations of family under the roof. It is going to be a long drive, but I know the time with family is worth it. I hope everyone is staying warm (we are roasting here with our 75-80 degree weather).

Thanks, Racheal. Our pediatrician has been pretty adamant that we wait until they're 6 months to start food--allergies I guess? We started the cereal a little early because they were so gosh darn hungry! I wasn't going to start any more solids until our appt this friday. But, maybe I will? A lot of people have told me to start with veggies first, since they're not as sweet? I'm pretty baffled by all the DIFFERENT advice I've been getting. So confusing.

Sounds like Mayla is doing terrific! I guess her digestive problems are under control now? That's wonderful. Ellie is trying hard to crawl too. Braeden would rather roll over. (I honestly have to wonder if he's even going to crawl...he's really strong at standing on our laps. He might try to skip crawling like his daddy. I DON'T want him to skip it, though. As a teacher, I know how important those early skills are to brain development. ) We're not pulling ourselves up on the coffeetable--thank Goodness--because I think it's a death trap. IT has really sharp corners, so we're going to get rid of it. I tried those cushion things, but they just didn't fit right. Plus, we need more room for the kids to play. So, moving the coffee table will give us space!

No teeth for us, either....lots of drooling. WAking up in the night. Chewing like heck. But no teeth. I swear they have to be here soon!

hi there girls... sounds like all the babies are doing good.... and many looking for teeth... is Gavin the only one that has them?? wow... it seems like he has had them for a long time (2 months). He is actually pooping on his own!!!!! i tell you that is huge... He also crawled today... he is so funning doing it... it takes a while for him to get set.. then its a little forward... and his head comes crashing down to the floor...(thank goodness we have carpet in the family room).

Kim-i really do not think that it matters what you start with... i started with fruits (prunes) because he REALLY needed help moving things along... he's also BF so it's sweeter then formula.. thought that he would take to the fruit better.... it doesn't matter i do not think that it affects them long term... my one was a VERY picky baby and now eats EVERYTHING all veggies... my other ate everything as a baby and is now more cautious... still eats it all, but is very cautious at first... Gavin is down the middle of my other two... i add cereal to everything!!! fruits veggies... everything... and do not worry about it... they will get the hang of it...and soon be chowing down... we got rid of the coffee table with our first.. he hit his head so many times.. my DH picked the thing up over his head and put it in the basement.... we now have a leather ottoman... much better....

rachael-good to hear that makayla is doing good...good luck on the drive to florida sounds awesome... how long are you staying there? i'll take your heat... we are cold, with about 6 inches of snow on the ground.... as for the drool.. we still have it... and plenty of it... we go through bibs like crazy. we always get the flu shot.... just was nervous about him being so little.. i absolutly agree with the persistance of food.... we have a rule in my house that you have to try it.. most of the time they love it... others it takes a couple of times... i also do make seperate foods for them... my one girls friend will make 4 different things for dinner -no way- my boys love everything, for the most part.... WE ARE ALSO OFF THE GERD MEDS... we are completly off... i'm so glad!!! is makayla still on anything??

well, girls... hope that you all have a great week... my goal is to finish christmas stuff and get the cards out this week... (i'll post the photo... it's cute... i took like 100 to get a "ok" one... my 3YO DS is silly..

we are getting over gavins first cold... yuck!! really hard for him to BF with a stuffed up nose...

take care
Colleen

Kim and Colleen -

Makayla is still on the meds. She is doing much better, but she still spits up everywhere. We are still carrying spit rags when we go out because she is good at getting the floors! However, if she eats things with cereal, she spits up less. The ped told us it could take up to a year old. I am glad everyone is doing well.

Hi Everyone,

I am so sorry that I have been MIA for such a long time. I have been checking in on you all every chance that I get and you and your families are always in my thoughts and prayers.

Lily and I are doing great. She will be 6 months next week and I can't belive how quick it is all going. She still has no teeth but I sware they have to be coming. She is a little drool monster and bites on anything she can get into her mouth. She is not crawling yet but has mastered rolling over this week. I think she is a little behind with her motor skills from the sound of it but I am sure she will catch up soon. I also started her on baby food. She really is not happy with it and I am lucky if I can get a few spoonfills into her at each meal but I will keep trying. She is sleeping around 8 to 9 hours a night which for her (and me) is fantastic but still has trouble napping during the days. She takes a few little 20 - 30 minute cat naps during the day but not nearly as much as I would like. I never seem to be able to get anything done around the house and by the end of the day once she is down all I want to do is sleep. But I try to stay up a little to do some housework. I will post a picture on photobucket and catch up on all your posts ASAP.

I hope all of you have a great holiday season and a healthy and happy new year filled with love and joy.

xoxo

Nance--Hello! I'm so glad to hear from you. I'm glad Lily's doing well. don't worry...mine aren't crawling yet, either. They roll, but don't crawl or pull themselves up. I'm sure it will come. Mine also hate the baby food. We've tried rice cereal and green beans so far. No dice. Braeden is willing to try, but then doesn't really go for it after a while. I'm going to keep plugging away though. I"ll check out the bucket to see your little princess!

Racheal--I can sympathize with your spitting up situation, for once! Today, I took the kids over to school to see some of my coworkers (long story, but I had the day off today). Ellie and Braeden loved being passed about. Then, all of a sudden, Ellie just started projectile vomiting everywhere! Luckily she got most of it on the floor or me (not my friends, thank GOD!). She's not sick, I don't think. But, I think it's because she's drinking sooo much formula. THe girl doesn't like the baby cereal, but her tummy's not handling all that liquid so well. I sure hope she gets this food thing soon!

Colleen--thanks for the advice about the food. I know it will happen, but it's frustrating. I try to keep calm and happy, but with two of them spitting cereal back in my face--ugh! We'll see what the ped says this friday. He wants me to make my own baby food. Do any of you do it? I"m sure it's probably healthier (less preservatives?), but I"m not sure if I'll have the time? We'll see. I'm game to try anything once...

We got our 6 month photos taken today. Ellie was a ham, but Braeden was very very grouchy. We did manage to snag a few good ones. I'll try to post them to the bucket soon!

Have a good night gals!

Hello all. It has been so long since i checked in. Good to hear everyone is moving along nicely i cant believe Izzy is 5 months where has the time gone?
Izzy is doing really well, she has just got over her first cold which didn't seem to bother her. We brought a nasal aspirator which is really gross but really helps clear her nose, basically you suck all the mucus out of her nose through a tube but no chance of it getting in your mouth. She is doing really well with her food, she has tried veggies and fruit but isn't to keen on apple, she loves carrots. She is also having 2 bottles of formula each day
Buckeye i personally will only use shop baby food if i am on holiday ie visiting my mum for christmas. I steam her veggies and stew her fruit then blend it and store it in ice cube trays in the freezer and take my supply out to defrost each day. This way you can bulk cook it to last a couple months when you have spare time. (not easy with twins i bet)The easiest way is to keep some back if you are making any for yourself and blend that.
I have taken some christmas pics of Izzy and will post on photobucket.
I will try and check in more often.

Ellie--good to hear from you! I love Izzy's picture! Thanks for the tips about baby food. I'll definitely give it a try...maybe do some making this weekend? Dumb question for you...I am not a gourmet....I can handle steaming veggies, but how do I stew fruit? Never even thought of doing that before....

Oh, colleen, you'll appreciate this...my DH is sick with the flu!!!! Remember, he refused to get the flu vaccine?? I could just kick him right now, but that would be mean. So, I'm dealing with both babies by myself (which is tough in the evening). Plus, I'm tending to him. (And let's not forget the dog who needs walked...) Next year, I'm demanding he get it!

Oh, Izzy, one more thing...where'd you find that nose sucker? I've heard of them, but haven't seen them anywhere here in the states. My kids are miserable when they get colds, and I thought that the "sucker" would be better than our hospital aspirators...

kim- i saw one of the asperators at walgrees out here by use... thought about getting one, but didn't... maybe next time, as Gavin has a hard time breathing and nursing with a cold.... good thing that this one is just about over..... i use the gerber organic... but i will give him somethings that we are having... like potatoes... i'll mash them up and add a little BM, or cooked carrorts, bananas or fruit.... just transition to big people food... as for DH... how kind that you are tending to him... i told my DH, i would not tend to him, as it was his choice... althrough you still have to do everything now, because he is useless now..(i know my DH would be)

ellie- good to hear that izzy is doing good... it seems like gavin likes the apples and not the carrots or squash... izzy is so cute..

nance-good to hear that lily is well, and doing good... do not worry about the motorskills.... each kid is their own, and she is probably excelling in other areas... like talking or fine motor.... hopfully she will start liking food... gavin loves it, and i can not get the spoon there fast enough... lily is so cute too...

i posed a picture of photos i got taken yesterday... well actually we go every year with all the grandkids and get a photo done... gavin was in such a good mood i had her take a few of him.... when we went a couple of weeks ago.. it was a mightmare.... we waited 45 minutes because one of the cameras broke, then he was ready to eat, and was not too happy... overall not a good night... so last night he was really happy and was all smiles...i posted a picture of all 3 of my boys too

i was also going to share that my other two boys found that if they make gavin laugh while he is eating he will shoot baby food all over me and everything else...they think that it's a game.... it's cute, but the laundry is bad... on top of that our washer broke yesterday... and we'll have to get a new one... yeikes right before christmas time...

well i hope that everyone is having a good holiday season... and have a great day
