I'm just wondering if anyone had a few biochemicals then went on to have a normal pregnancy?
Here's what is happening this time...my first beta was 105 at 12dp3dt, then 135 at 14dp3dt, then today it was 69 at 16dp3dt. With the last result, the nurse said that i can continue the premetrium if i want and that the doctor wants me to be tested next Monday to see where the pregnancy is going. if it's dropped, why should i take the prometrium? Has anyone ever heard of this?
My first biochemical started with low numbers that would more than double, then after i reached 771, i passed a lot of blood and some tissue, and a few days later, we saw nothing on the first us, and my beta was 5. Has anyone gone through this a few times, then had a normal pregnancy? I'm wondering if it's my eggs/ our embryos. I just turned 38, so I think that my age may be a factor. Is it a good sign I was able to get pregnant?...or is that just something people say to make you feel good.
dont know much about biochemicals but you may want to pm beachbaby....her real name is jayne and she's had 2 biochemicals and now has a strong BFP! if you cant find her on the search, she regularly posts on the awaiting treatment thread on the general forum.
let me know if you cant find her.

Hi Diane, I am so sorry for your loss. I like you have had 2 bio'chemicals, but unlike you my numbers have always been extremly low. Agter my 2nd one i was tested further and found i had a clotting problem.
I hope you are able to find a reason, i too am 38 and have been told that i have excellent emboyo's and the only problem was getting them to stay put. I did take the positive that we are able to get pregnant, and we just need to persevere to reach our goal.
I wish you all the luck in the world and you are able to find a reason behind the heartache.
Good luck.

thank you both for replying. as you know, this can be very trying. i will ask about testing for clotting,
beachbaby....they kept my appt for today with the RE (usually they cancel it if you get a bfp, but since this is turning out bad, they kept it). i'll be making a list of questions, that is for sure.
Diane, good luck with your appointment, hope all went well and you got some answers. Keep in touch, i have evry faith you will get what you want, you've been there you just need help keeping them there. Also autu immune testing and chromosones if you havn't had any of these done. In the UK they don't usually test for these until 3 miscarraiges/bio-chemicals, but i was lucky and my clinic test on 2.
Good luck

jayne - hahaha...glad you found each other. and glad you're lurking on the "other side". lol....we'll have to start an "awaiting tmt bfp thread"....lol

just getting back to you on my appt. my RE did not recommend genetic, blood clotting disorder, or antibody testing at this point. i asked about those tests and more and he said that if it was his wife or his sister, he would not recommend it to them. he said that per textbook, it is usually done with 3 m/cs. he also said that he would be more concerned if it happened after a fetal heartbeat was confirmed. he said if i really want the tests, he would do it, but he recommended against it, so i left it at that.
he wants me to start taking baby asprin for the next time....he said even if i had a blood clotting disorder, this would take care of that (except in the most extreme cases). i asked if we should be testing my progesterone level...he said that he would recommend that i go on the progesterone shots this time because with that, you can monitor the blood.....with the suppositories the progesterone goes directly to the uterus and doesn't get in the blood...and there is no way of testing for it. so, at least this time we will check that...i'm nervous about that needle, however. as for the potential for this to happen again, he said that he doesn't think that is the case.
there is one other issue that could be contributing. i have a unicornuate uterus. when i was born, only half my uterus developed. in addition, i have one ovary that they can see on the vaginal us and have one "undecended ovary"....whatever that means. my estradiol was higher than expected for the 7 eggs they got out of my one ovary. i asked if that could have contributed...he said that is unlikely, but the fact that i have a unicornuate uterus could have an impact, although he said iwas unlikely, too.
so, as you can bet, my head is spinning about this. if it's not this, and it's not that, what is it!!!! it seems like they don't want to spend much time figuring out the problem and just want to try to get you pregnant. i have to go tomrrow to see if my hcg went down even more...if so, i'll stop the progesterone supp. and will have the mc. that will make for a great thanksgiving!
also, when i went in there i saw a girl with a newborn in the waiting room. she was showing off her baby to the nurses....DH and i were in there. she said she tried for 8 times and finally it worked...she said to me "don't give up". later the nurses told me that was the record for attempts in that office. anyway, i think i need to get my mind off this and go watch some TV.
please let me know if you have any comments after reading this post. thanks a lot!!!
Hi diane, sounds like you got some answers, but are still left with a little confusion!
its good that you will take aspirin next, this seems to have worked for me this time (fingers crossed).
I would want more info regarding your uterus, can they give you any numbers etc regarding success with these problems.
I take the progesterone suppositories and askrd about the shots, but chose to stay as was, but had wondered why we were not tested.
Hope all goes wee, enjoy your thanksgiving as much as you can.
good luck
Jayne

they haven't given me any numbers for ivf success rates for someone with uterine anomalies like mine. i think there isn't much data on it. there are supposed to be 1-5% of all women have this condition. it isn't discovered usually until there is a fertility workup or if a women has preterm labor. there is an increased risk for preterm labor and for c-section. sometimes it is harder to get pregnant because usually we have only one tube with ovary and the other ovary is displaced. so, if you switch ovaries every month, you only have half the chances of getting pregnant than someone without this anomaly. i have been able to "get pregnant" both times trying IVF, using only one embryo - my uterus couldn't take twins very well, so, i'm able to get pregnant, but it's not sticking. as for that, either it's chromosomal (supposedly only 1 in 4-5 eggs in a person between 35-40 are normal) or my uterus isn't getting the bloodflow it needs. my RE said my lining looked good, so he doesn't think that is the issue. who knows?
i'm so upset and sad this time...because it happened twice in a row so i don't think it's a random thing. i'm seriously thinking of getting a second opinion. i think i said before, it took me a year to decide to do ivf....now i wish i had that year back and wish i married DH earlier...my fault...took me too long to decide to get married. i think for some reason, this one is really hitting me hard. i don't know how i will get through tomorrow. i'd rather just stay home and get leftovers! sorry to sound so down. maybe it's also hormonal?!?!
just wanted you to know that i pushed the issue with the RE and he set me up for testing for the reoccurant miscarriage panel. i went yesterday. they took about 12 vials of blood. the nurse called and said they wouldn't get the results for 7-10 days. so, at least i can see if there is a problem or rule these conditions out and move forward.
i'm better today than i was on my last post. i think i was going crazy. thanks for your replies.
hi diane, glad you pushed your Dr, and are getting the bloods done, yep i thought they were taking all mine at the time. i feel this will hopefully give you the answers you are looking for and be able to change things for your next cycle. hang in there. i will come searching for your results. take care

I got my test results back and everything is normal except I tested positive for MTHFR heterozygous. My RE said this is clinically insignificant...meaning he doesn't think this is a contributor to the biochemical pregnancies. He said that some people take prescription Folic Acid for this and that it is not proven to be necessary. If it was the homozygous version it would be required. He said I can take it if I'd like and that it wouldn't hurt me. It was a quick phone call and you know sometimes you don't think of questions when you are talking. In any event, I am going to request to be put on that. He also said that my husband should be tested to complete the recurrant miscarriage panel of tests...this was not done. Any thoughts?
Hi diane, Glad you got the results back. I guess mixed feelings as nothing was flagged as to why you are miscarrying. Re the folic acid, in the Uk we are all told to take it from before pregnancy to the first 12 weeks as it can help with neural growth and prevent spina Bifida. Regarding your DH, mine was only tested for chromosone problems, but i do know of others that have had extra tests. When do you hope to try again?
I am feeling great, just had my 8 week scan, all well and now been discharged back to my regular Dr. I am getting another scan at 10 weeks due to my recurring miscarraiges, for peace of mind.
Take care and keep the faith.

Glad to hear things are going well for you. Thanks for your reply.
The test my husband is set up to take is Karyotype. I think it is a chromosomal test. It's the only test they recommended for him. As for me, they put me on 4 mg of folic acid per day. My prenatal has 800 mcg or 0.8 mg. So, I need to take three additional 1 mg tablets per day.I guess it's the same dosage as people with homozygous MTHFR. I have heterozygous MTHFR..apparently 44% of the population have it. 44% of the population is normal, and 12% have the homozygous version. I'm just glad that I don't have the bad one...with that you have to take heparin shots (blood thinner) and the risk for miscarrying is much higher. I can't believe how much I am learning about myself!
