DH got SA - ICSI

Post by waitingforMia »

Well DH got his SA back. The last one he had a few years ago was normal, but this one he only has 2% morphology (14 and up is good). RE said we will need ICSI, but he thinks our prognosis is very good and shouldn't have any probs! I am going to beleive him and stay really positive. I am just planning on this being the last Christmas without kids!

Anyone else have morphology issues?

hey Mia--my husband has 0-1% normal morphology. We are also doing ICSI in Dec. I've seen your name on the DEC/JAN thread. Our RE thinks that our chances are high as well. When are your dates???

Neffi:
I am waiting for AF who should arrive on the 15th! Then I go in on cd3 for the IVF class! Is your Dh's issue the only diagnosis ya'll have? Do you know why your Dh has this problem? My Dh is a car painter, so he is around toxins all day :(

We have been unexplained for 8 years. This is the first time anyone has actually identified a problem, but it must not be the only one, right? I mean his SA a few years ago was fine...

What are your dates?

Just wanted to add that ICSI is a wonderful thing! I have only tried one cycle and out of 24 eggs that were ICSI'd 20 fertilized and 16 went on to become embryos. I hope this gives you all inspiration! I got a BFP then sadly miscarried last weekend at 5 weeks :( :( However, these things just make me stronger and wiser.......here's looking forward to lots of BFP's all around in the next few weeks!

Thanks for the encouragement Ni! I am feeling very positive and I know this will increase our chance. I am sorry to hear about your m/c last week - seems like you have a great attitude and are able to put it all in perspective!

My DH also had issues with his boys!! He had low morphology, low count, low motility.. we did our first IVF w/ ICSI in June and it worked!! After TTC for 6 years... I am currently 29 weeks pregnant and still its so hard to believe..

Good Luck with your upcoming cycle!! ICSI is great!

Hi MP, My DH has antisperm antibodies 40% which means they have no tail, this is from a viral infection a few years ago he also has reduced motility. We got 12 good embryo's through ICSI and have got pregnant 3 of the 4 times, they have now identified a clotting problem with me, and this pregnancy (fingers crossed) is progressing well.
Good luck to you

hey Waitingformia-- yeah that is the only diagnoses we got. All of my tests came back normal. The RE said that there is no real way to tell why he has this problem....so we will do ICSI. I am very excited. I have my trial transfer and injection class on the 21st and start injections on the 26th.

ttcnumber1--Congrats! that is awesome. Do yo know what you are having?

nicaliw--I'm so sorry to hear of your m/c. I'm glad you have strength...will you do ICSI again??

Neffi,

I'm planning on a FET asap, most likely February if all goes according to plans. I'm just praying my body does what it needs to do to get things moving along. Will be checking beta next week, fingers crossed (it already dropped from 6350 to 380 in the 1st week).

Hey - that was our diagnosis too. Low count, poor morphology and poor mobility. No toxic chemicals or visible reason for this condition in our case. DH feels terrible and I wish I could help him with this! We are doing IVF this month (Dec) and they got 12 mature eggs and 5 fertilized with ICSI. The transfer is Tuesday and then it is up to my body to do its part.

Good luck!
Melissa

Same here, low motility, but doctor seems very confident with ICSI, I also read good things online - good luck!

Good luck Melissa, I know what you mean, my Dh feels really terrible that I have to go through this. I just keep telling him it is an "us" issue we are overcoming, not his or mine. He had cancer and the chemo lowered his count and motility.

I have had all the tests in the book (at least it seems like it!) and everything checks out ok.

The wait is killing me!

Good luck and baby dust for everyone!

hi waiting for mia,
yes- my DH has 4% morphology- and has what is called Teratozoospermia- crazy name for weirdly shaped sperm. They tried to assure me that this did not affect the quality of sperm DNA and such ,but that the shape made it impossible for them to actually penetrate the egg if they did, in fact, meet.
so my man's are pointy- which one would think would be better for penetrating the egg, but evolution has a funny way of doing things, and, well, thanks to modern science, Drs can pick one out and inject it into the egg in a petri dish! ICSI.
I am trying to have a good sense of humor about it all because otherwise I think I might have a meltdown, and at christmas? puuh-leeze- how common!
take care, and don't worry- the good thing is- there are sperm to work with.

cheers!
