Hi. I remember you saying you got ohss 2 weeks after your pregnancy test. was this accompanied by a very sharp pain on one side of your ovaries? last night I had severe pain in one side low down for about 4 hours until i took some paracetomol after which it finally went away. phoned the clinic this morning as was worried about an ectopic and they said it was too early to scan for this and enquired whether I had ben drinking enough water. I know I haven't been drinking my recommended 3 litres as I was before the pg test as it is much harder now to get all the fluid down but I have been drinking about 1 and a half litres. they said to up the intake. do these pains sound familiar to you? I think I had them when i had ohss in March but that's such a long time ago now that it's difficult to recall exactly what they felt like. tummy is slightly bloated but not hard, just a bit floppy (nice!). beckym xxx
Poor you! Yes, I think they probably are the same, but it sounds as though you've avoided a severe bout thankfully. Mine came on pretty suddenly, and within about half an hour were severe enough for me to go to A&E. I also felt very sick and clammy. When I got to hospital they gave me powerful painkillers (not sure what, but they said it wouldn't harm the baby) and put me on a drip, and the pains went after a few hours, so I think the fluid thing really is crucial. I know how hard it is to drink such a lot, especially if you're feeling nauseaous cos it really makes it worse!! But I honestly think it was when I got slack with drinking that it flared up.
Take good care of yourself won't you Becky. I was told that some of my follicles had probably filled back up and might be twisting on themselves a bit, but that nothing can be done about this as the baby needs them until the placenta is formed - that'll all be there by 12 weeks - another good reason to count the days until the end of 1st trimester!
Beck x
Becky, forgot to say - like you, I was v worried I might have an ectopic. I was in Paris during my first bout, and they did scan me, but basically like your clinic told you, it was too early . . . they could see a sac in the uterus, which was a good sign, but it was too early for a heartbeat, so I worried myself sick about that for a week. Also, as I'd had two embies put back, there was no knowing whether the other had simply not implanted, or had gone off to form an ectopic too small to be detected at that point. All turned out fine, I'm expecting one baby and there never was an ectopic. Later my clinic back home told me that had it been ectopic the pains wouldn't have gone but would have got steadily much much worse. Hope this reassures you - it's really unlikely yours is ectopic because you've got the extra back-up of your HCG levels doing what they should. Bx
thank you so much for responding so quickly and putting my mind at rest Beck!!! have made a valiant effort to drink loads and loads of water today and thankfully pains have not come back. hope you are well and baby is doing well. beckym xxx
becky

hope you don;t mind me butting in but this info might help some. you know i had pains in one side all over the weekend. on monday the radiologist told me that it is too early to experience the symptoms of an ectopic,( you and i are within two days of each other) and the pain was likely to be caused by the ovary. when he did the scan he confirmed it was the ovary as the corpus luteum is producing a lot of hormone and no cause for concern. my pain has starting to move to the other side now.

it's good your pains have gone now. keep drinking the water (not that i can talk on that score).

phil x
thanks for the info phil! that is good to know. feeling much better now and will not worry if the pain comes back that it is ectopic! I scan on Tuesday!! getting closer!! beckym xxx
