Allison,
we are having a problem getting our insurance to cover the RSV shots and my babies were smaller than yours and born at 33 weeks. My pediatrician appealed the denial and we just got notice today that our insurance company denied the appeal. So now i'm having our pedi call the medical director directly at the insurance company to appeal again. Tell your pedi to tell your insurance company that the babies will be in day care. Sometimes that will help. The shots are $1,000 per month per baby if insurance doesn't pay. If i may give some advice....
don't take all the tags off of your baby clothes just yet. I did that and the triplets didn't need anywhere near as many clothes as i thought they would and they grew out of stuff so quickly that they hardly had a chance to wear it. With triplets, you are doing laundry every day so you are more likely to pull something out of the dryer than you are a brand new outfit out of the closet. You're better off using more 0-3 month size stuff. My daughter and one of my sons are already out of newborn size diapers and they are only 1 month corrected age. My daughter doesn't fit into newborn size clothes anymore either. Let me know how things go on friday !

Hi everyone! I am new to this thread. I have read through everyone's postings and am so excited to here others who are in my situation.

My DH and I went through our first IVF in September and are having triplets. We transferred two embryos and both implanted. However, one split to become a set of identicals...so suddenly we went from twins to triplets! We know that we are having two boys (the identicals) and it looks like Baby C is a girl, but they aren't positive yet.

I have been seeing my OB every three weeks and my peri every 4 weeks. I am 17 weeks pregnant. By week 20, I will start seeing my OB every week, and my peri every other week. They are expecting me to go on bedrest at about 20-22 weeks. In the meantime I am taking it easy. I am still working (well sorta), but do most of it from home (from my bed). I am starting to get much more energy since I am in my 2nd trimester, but I don't want that to get in the way of my resting. I have already gained 25 lbs. I have been reading a book from Dr. Barbara Luke, and she suggested that by 20 week you should gain about 30 lbs with trips. So I am well on my way..HA! My doctors haven't discovered any complications so far, which makes me very optomistic.

I am so nervous about life after they are born, but am so excited about it. I just hope I can figure out my routine quickly and can get organized early on.

My next OB and Peri appt is on January 8th. I will let you guys know the update.

Allison
I have enjoyed reading your progress and hearing how great you are donig. I am so excited that your babies are still hanging in Mommy's tummy. At this point, every day is a big day of development!

Janice, after reading your last post I called my insurance co and they verified they do cover the shots, before 2 years old there is no stipulations. If the Dr. orders it they will cover no matter when they are born. I was so happy to hear that!! Now DHs insurance Aetna is a different thing, they have so many different things you have to meet. We'll have to deal with that next winter. For this season, they'll still be on my insurance Blue Cross and they are so much better than Aetna. But once I leave my job then it's on to Aetna.
And all the clothes they have gotten, are still hanging in the closet with the tags on! Maybe if they don't wear everything then I can resell them to get some extra money. Thanks for the advice...it is so nice to hear from someone who has already gone thru it!

Christin, sounds like you are doing awesome! I think at 18 weeks is when they were able to call for sure our girl. We could see the 2 boys really early but they never said for sure on the girl til 18 weeks. Good luck at your next appt.! 20 weeks is a cool sonogram, they measure all the babies and look at all the anatomy. It is so cool to see everything. By the end you will be an expert at everything. My sono tech says I should go into that profession! HAHA

Congrats and welcome aboard!

The first thing that I would suggest is to NOT worry yourself over loosing a baby. The babies need you to be positive and optomistic...so only think good things.

Also, as soon as I found out that I was having multiples, DH and I began reassigning house chores so that I was no longer responsible for lifting or moping, etc. I started early on with very very light duty.

In addition, I started learning how to lift myself up by using my arm muscles as opposed to using my stomach muscles. You will find that as you get larger, you will not be able to pull yourself up the way you are used to.

Finally, I started resting as much as I could. And by resting I mean laying, not sitting. I wanted to refrain from putting pressure on my cervix. This becomes really important as your babies get larger and starts putting lots of strain on your cervix.

In terms of your size change so early on....I went through what is called hyperstimulation with IVF. This was intensified by the extra hormones my body was natrually producing with having triplets. I started gaining a TON of fluid. I gained nearly 15 pounds in 2 or 3 weeks. The docs suggested that I drink a LOT of gaterade (to make sure you don't dehydrate( and drink V8 juice. I also had to sleep elevated to make sure the extra fluid that i was carrying wouldn't flow into my lungs. It became really uncomfortable, but you have to take care of yourself during this time, if this is what you truely have. Check with your doc.

Finally, I would suggest to you to get a book from Dr. Barbara Luke. It is called "When you are expecting Twins, Triplets, or Quads". Dr. Luke has some amazing advice for delivering healthy weight babies and avoiding preterm labor. Please read this book.....it is for your and your babies' good.

Good Luck,
Christin

Thank you so much! I will go today to the bookstore and pick up the book. I am still nt sure about the weight gain. If it is like what you said how woul dI find out. I can not get into a high risk doctor until mid feb. I have to drive to the navy hospital 2 1/2 hours away to do my ultrasound with a regular pregnancy doctor. Would he know? I have alot of tingling and some cramping real low. Like real real low. He said my right ovary was real low and had some sists and taht the tingling could be from the babies digging into my lining to get their permanant home. I feel so bad too because I have a 2 and a 5 year old we adopted 8 months ago and I feel like they are not getting played with enough because I am always on the couch! Plus my husband is geting a second job since I can't work so we can keep up with our bills so he will not be paying with them as much. I feel sad for them! I love the information. I am an information freak! So any and all info is great ly appreciated! Websites, books, or just knowledge from people! This site is so great! Thank you so much Christin!

You are very welcome! I am just like you..I love to be in the know!

I ordered the book from http://www.drbarbaraluke.com. I am sure you can get it in a book store if it is a large enough store.....but in the event you can't find it, I ordered it directly from Dr. Lukes site. Also, check out www.tripletconnection.org.

In term of you knowing about the hysperstimulation...I am not sure if a regualar OB will know. This is something I learned from my fertility doctor (the RE). He saw me every week after my positive pregnancy test until about week 7. By the time he released me to see an OB, i was much better. They did ultrasounds of my entire abdomen area to check the fluid levels. Try to do some research on this topic if you are concerned about it and bring it to your OBs attention.

I live in a small town as well, so I drive an hour or so (depending on traffic, could be longer) for my OB and my Parentologist. I LOVE my specialist. The OB just does routine checkups, which are very necessary, but the specialist does an ultrasound EVERY time i go there to check on the babies. I love seeing them.

In regards to your other children, try sitting on the floor with them to play, as opposed to lifting them. Just be careful lifting children or heavy items. Having triplets has defintely become an eye opener for us as well, in terms of finances. Luckily my company has good short-term disability
coverage, so I can get paid the entire time I am on bed rest (The doc expects I will be on bed rest by week 20 or 22. I am currently at 18 weeks.)

I am jealous of your adopting. My DH and I were going to adopt from China, but I needed to be at least 30 to adopt according to the rules/regs of China. SO that is when we decided to do IVF. We will still adopt a precious little girl from China. I can't wait!

Hi Christin and Recia,

Welcome to the triplet thread ! I'm so excited that you both joined and now we finally have some more triplet mommies to talk with !

My advice is to never go more than 3 weeks without a cervical legnth check - both me and a friend of mine had cervix shorten at 21 weeks - mine was caught in time to do a cerclage and then i was on bedrest the rest of the pregnancy - delivered at 33 weeks. Also, don't lift a finger around the house and lay down all the time.
Finally, bed rest will be awful when you are going through it, but now that i look back, i wish i appreciated it more because once the babies come, you will be very sleep deprived and day-dream about your bedrest days ! Even though you know you are having triplets and will be a very busy mommy, you don't really understand what that means until you are up all night with 3 crying newborns ! So rest up while you can ! Keep us posted on how you are doing !

Allison - didn't hear from you yesterday after your doctor appointment - hmmmmmm????? :-)

Hey Janice,

Fridays appt was good...no change though, cervix was still long at 3.4 cm. Babies were measuring real big but OB wouldnt schedule anything til 37 weeks!

But I had to go back up to the hospital Sunday morning, I thought I was leaking fluid. Turned out not to be amniotic fluid, just discharge due to bacteria not yeast. I cried, I really thought this was it. But OB while checking me kinda tried to stretch me out because I was already thin and a fingertip as he called it. But he wants to see me Wed. instead of waiting til Friday...if I have ANY cervical change at all even to 1 cm he will deliver me! He told me to stop taking my meds since he won't do anything now that would stop the labor. So that made me feel so much better! He did a sonogram of the babies and they are all measuring in the high 5 lb range so he feels good about them coming soon. I am excited now...I could have babies this week!! So I am walking around...trying to get things going!! HAHA No I can't really walk, my feet are so swollen!
So hopefully I will have good news soon to share!!

some people have told me to just ask my doctor do do the cerclage early in the pregnancy so that I wil not have that to worry about later. Is that ok? I am still a week away from my next ultrasound. I am so excited and nervious. It was to early to hear the heart beats last time. I still have alot alot of cramping real real low. Like lower than the pubil line. One doctor told me it was the embryos digging in and getting there spot. Another told me it was because my right ovary is so low and has cysts. Did anyont wlse have this?

Well I cant type for long just got pain meds!
But they came 12/31...I started contracting every 3 minutes at home after they released me. So around 300AM I called Dr and said to get up there. I wasnt dilated but with the cont. being so strong they kept me another 3 hours. When OB checked again, I was 3cm!! He said ok lets have some babies today!
I was so excited. I did lose alot of blood, uterus wouldnt go back down. so my BP dropped really low and had to have a blood tranfusion. I never thought anything would go wrong with me, I was just worried about them. But they are GREAT! Boys had to be on vents 1st day but they are off now. Anna has been breathing on her own the whole time and I got to feed her too from a bottle, she is already eating, blowing the boys away. I'll write more later.
Check out our site for pics and more info on the blog that Kris added.

Thanks for all the support, advice and prayers ladies...it got me this far, 34w3d! Not too shabby!
