Allison,
congratulations !!!!! I"m so happy that you and the babies are doing so well !!! What are the boys names?? Are any of them able to come home with you yet?

Christin and Recia - I think one of you asked about cramping - i had both cramping and bleeding from weeks 5-8 and each time i went to the doctor and it was fine.

Sorry i don't have more time to write now but i'm alone with the babies and they are starting to get fussy :-)

Is anyone in the NJ area?? I have lots of preemie sized clothes that were given to me (all boy stuff) and i would love to pass it on to another triplet mommy. I know some people don't like to have used clothes, but trust me, especially if the babies are in the NICU, you won't care, nor will you have the time to go shopping for preemie clothes (which are expensive!). Unfortunately i didn't have anyone to give me used girl clothing so i had to buy some, and she grew out of it so fast! If you do buy anything, don't get more than 4-5 outfits. It's all you will need.

I hope everyone is feeling well and taking it easy !

I had another doctors appointment on monday. We heard three strong heart beats. It is all starting to sink in. My husband is getting excited about buikding cribs and the family is all starting to get involved in everything. Someone once told me that since I will be going to a specialist that you can find out the sex sooner than mosst doctors because the ultrasound machines are better. IS that true? If so how early?

That is fantastic news!!! I am so happy for you and DH. We found out the gender of our at 15 weeks. I am not sure if the reason you can find out sooner is bc of the equipment, or the simple fact that will now get more ultrasounds on a more regular basis than someone that isn't high risk and not carrying multiples. So how many weeks are you?

Update
We went in for our 20 week appt yesterday. The doc said that my cervix was thicker than average, so he was very pleased. All of the babies are strong and healthy. They did a thourogh look at the anatomy of each of them and are pleased with the development of what they can see at this point. Oh, and Baby C finally decided to show us her "parts". So we are having two boys and a girl!!!

I asked them about bed rest, and they aren't putting me on bed rest yet, but that he wants me to continue taking it easy. When I sit down he wants my feet elevated bc it promotes better blood flow. And any chance that I get to lay, he wants me to lay. He told me to just let my house get dirty and don't feel bad about it!!! I am scheduled to go back on January 30th to see my OB and Peri.

Oh, I have officially gained 30 pounds. I think I am right on track with Dr. Barbara Luke's suggested weight gain. I have found that it is easier for me to branch out and eat more foods now. I am actually finally eating more beef. Before, it grossed me out. And I have never really been a fan of Chicken.

How is everyone else?

Allison, how are the babies?

Recia,
We saw our boys at 13 weeks, they called the girl for sure at 18 weeks. That was the fun part finding that out. We got sonos at every OB visit and peri visit, at 20 weeks I started being seen weekly by either my OB or peri. My OB does have a really good sono machine and a great sono tech.

My babies are doing so good, we actually all came home yesterday, had our 1st night alone with them! That was interesting, but I think we did good. They didn't sleep as well as when they were at the hospital but we made it thru!
Savor every day of your pregnancies, they are hard but it goes by so quick and then your lives are never the same!
Good luck everyone! Can't wait to follow y'alls stories!

Allison,
I have told all of my friends and family about you and your babies. I love hearing your success story. It gives me such encouragement.

I am at the 22week mark! I am def growing. My tummy is sticking out like a 9 mth mother with a singleton pregnancy. My tummy is already 41 inches around...that is an increase of about 14 inches. The good thing is that so far I don't really look pregnant from the back. Of course my arms/legs are not as nice as I like them to be...but oh well.

I stay in bed lots during the day. Mainly bc I don't feel like getting all dressed up to go to town. I have work to do from home, so I sit in my bed doing work, with occasional naps during the day. It gets boring, but I know it is best for me and the babies. I have another appt with the docs on the 30th, so I can't wait to see how everything is. We found out that we are having a girl!!! The boys are very obvious at about 15 weeks. But the little girl was bashful until 19 weeks.

Oh, today was the first time I saw my tummy move when one of the babies kicked. This particular baby was squirming all around. It was so cute. She/He couldn't stay still for about 10 minutes. It made me laugh watching and feeling it.

So Allison, do you have any words of advice for us trip-moms-to-be? Anything that you have found to work really well since you have been home with those little angels? Feeding advice?

Christin,

Yea...2 boys and a girl like me! My little girl is already spoiled being the only little girl in the family but my boys are so special to me too. I love seeing them interact with each other already and cant wait to see them when they get older!

Advice: Even though it will get so hard towards the end, stay positive! It is ok to cry and complain but just know the longer you keep them in there the better. Enjoy what sleep you get now! Waking up every 3 hours to feed and change them is so hard. The NICU got them on a 8, 11, 2 and 5 schedule so we are keeping that. I pump during the day so at least 2 can have breast milk and then only nurse during the night, rotating babies at 2, 5 and 8 then I pump after that. I am not making that much to feed all but I don't beat myself up about it. I just want them to get bigger and gain weight and supplementing formula is the only way I know how much they are eating.
We are so blessed to have healthy babies, I am just taking every day in and cherishing it, knowing it is all going to go by so fast.

Continue to take it easy, rest and take naps. Drink lots of water, that will help with keeping the contractions away. Eat lots of protein and dairy. Grow those babies!! :) I know it gets boring but believe me now I wish I could get those boring days back sometimes! HAHA

So what is the little girls name going to be??

Allison

Thanks for your tips. I drink lots of milk and water per day. I find that I don't get nearly as much protein every day, but I have been drinking High Protein Boost, and making a Whey Protein shake usually once a day to once every other day to supplement. Some days I do really good with protein (eggs, beef, fish), but other days I realize that I only get a little bit of protein from my milk, cereal, etc. On those days I drink the supplements.

In terms of a girl name....we haven't really agreed on it yet. We are leaning towards Cara. I am so ready to figure the name out though, bc I want to get some things monogramed for them.

In terms of feeding the babies, I planned to do something very similar to you. And supplement with formula as well. Did you pump while the babies were in NICU to build up your "inventory" of milk for when they got home? Did they let you give the babies breast milk or did they have to take formula?

Aliison you are so amazing. I looked at your page and your babies and almost cried. They are even a great weight! I showeed my husband the page and I think it sunk it just how big I will get since I am having three! He had to sit down for a minute! My kids thought it was cool!

I am really starting to get excited about the upcoming event! I feel guilty sometimes because I just do nto feel like palying with my two boys because I am tired and do not feel good. People are always asking me how far along I am because they do not know I have three babies in there. When I tell them I am only 9 weeks they look at me like I am awful! Makes a little more since when I tell them triplets.

My doctor told me the other day that I could find out sex as early as 12 weeks but should know for sure at 15 weeks. I am so excited. I got the book by barbara luke like everyone suggested and it was amazing. It gave me alot of information I did not know. But I am sure there will be many more questions!

I found out taht I do have to drive almsot three hours to every doctors appointment - that is going to get expensive! And I will have to dilevire three hours away too. No doctors in my town or the hospital are equiped to handle triplets. It is a pretty big town to so I am really suprised.

I also jsut want to say I love this site! You guys are really great at answering questions and being happy and concerned. It is so great!

Christin,

Yes I pumped in the hospital and once mine came in around day 4 or 5 I started giving what little I had to the NICU and they would divide it and put it in with the formula they gave them, Similac Neosure, it has the most calories to help them gain weight. They really need that formula because breast milk doesnt have as many calories. I did also get to try and nurse them there too but they didnt stay in the NICU for long so I never got to get a good storage up because whatever I pumped they would eat that day. I was pumping every 3 hours and never was able to get more than 50 cc in the beginning. I know some ladies can get more and are able to store it so they can feed exclusively breast milk. But I never could. So I just do both and it is working because they are really putting on the weight now and the pedi is very pleased.
I also ate protein bars and drank carnation instant breakfast to make sure I was getting protein every day. When you get big you dont want to be on your feet making food so whatever is easy I ate!

Recia,
yes you will get very big! For the longest time people kept telling me you dont look like you have 3 in there! Then 32 weeks hit and I was a whale! HAHA You have a ways to go but it will be fun! And I bet you'll feel better once you get into your 2nd tri so you can be there for your boys more. I hated the 1st tri and felt so much better once 12 weeks hit!
can't wait to hear what you are having!
