IVF after Tubes Tied, anyone else doing the same?

Post by mommykjo »

Hello, I am just looking to connect to anyone who has had IVF after having their tubes tied. Did you have success the first attempt? I am wondering if our chances are any higher since we do not have fertility issues or just the same as everyone else? I know there is never a 100% answer, but just curious of stories with IVF after having your tubes tied or after having tubal problems after eptopic ruptures. I have had both and now want another baby, so here we are. Can't wait to hear from you! Thanks. We are starting this month with shots, implanting in Feb. and hopefully positive pregnancy test beginning of March. Have to think positive, but also don't mind hearing the failed attempt outcome stories also. I'm a realist and want to hear either way. I am nervous, but hopeful.

Tubes tied

Post by Shelyn »

Hello mommykjo,

Good luck with your BFP in February.

I had my tubes tied nearly 12 years ago and had them untied 5 years ago. Have not PG on my own, I've started IVF in July of 2007 and finally in my first 2ww. So I am not sure if you are saying your tubes are still tied but I can certainly keep you posted on the outcome of my 2ww, next Tuesday.

Sorry, I couldn't be of more help.
First IVF attempt
Started stims on 8/18/07
Hcg Trigger on 8/27
ER on 8/29
schedule ET on 8/31
Cancelled cycle due to high estrogen level

11/23/07 began Protocol for FET
12/28/07 Scheduled FET
Transferred 3 now 2ww

Hi there,

Thanks for the reply, I love hearing about others in similar situations. I do have my tubes tied still. I had them a little over 4 years ago and anded up pregnant 3 months later and had an eptopic pregnancy. I had to have more of my tubes cut out and they also burnt them, so no going back for a reversal. I was worried about a reversal anyway, thinking I may not get pregnant or have another eptopic with my history, so I am hoping IVF works out the first time around. You never know though. I am starting shots in 3 weeks and going from there. We plan on implanting only 2 embyros since I do not want to risk Triplets, but would be okay with twins, prefer one, but twins would be a great blessing. hehe!! I just hope it works the first time, as everyone does.

I am praying for yours to take and can't wait to hear the outcome of your story. Good luck! Let me know how you are doing along the way on your journey to your baby.

Take care,

Kristy

I had my tubes tied 12 years ago as well. I haven't started IVF yet, but we have the paperwork and we're just waiting on the funds :) I plan on going to get my diagnostics done soon though, as I think my insurance plan covers those. I think I actually have a prescription plan that pays for the meds (or partially) too....so that's a blessing.

My husband still isn't 100% sure, just because I had such a rough time with the pregnancy 12 years ago....but hopefully he'll come around soon.... kind of hard to do it without him LOL

post tubal ligation

Post by jt - ivf at 41 »

Hi!!!

I am 41 and have just completed my first (and only) round of ivf. I had my tubes tied at age 34.

I would tend to think that our chances of conceiving would be excellent - because we have had sucessful pregnancies. I have two daughters.

My ivf experience was terrific until my retreval. I had 31 follies and only 4 eggs - my E2 level was 13000. I truly believe they missed my ovulation.

Two of my eggs made it to transfer on day three - one grade 1 and one grade 2.

I am now dealing with hyperstimulation symptoms which (according to Dr.) are about to get 3 times worse if i get pregnant.

Will keep you posted - - my HGC test is on Friday January 25th.

Good luck to you - I would love to keep in touch and hear how things are going for you.

Hi JT.
I am in a pretty similar situation. I had 10 follies with only 5 eggs. All 5 eggs made it to transfer. I also had my tubes tied. I am 43 yrs old. I was thinking the lack of eggs was due to my age, but I also had a feeling they may have missed my ovulation.
I am currently on the dreaded 2ww. I test on Sat the 19th.
I was also dealing with some pain and bloating on the 3rd day after my 3dt. The RE did a sono and said that there was some fluid build up and that if I was preggers it will continue to get worse as well. I am now 7dp3dt and still feel very bloated and wake up every morning at 5 am, very uncomfortable.
Good luck to you. Spread the baby dust around.

No fertility isssues?

Post by LostGirl »

MommyKjo,

I wanted to write because I thought that what you wrote about not having "fertility issues" sounded like bragging and struck me as insensitive. I guess my point is this board is for people struggling with infertility in whatever form it comes. Everyone woman including me who is doing IVF because of male factor could also brag that they don't have "fertility" issues. I had never looked at it that way until your post. I think my dh and I are having trouble conceiving, not that I'm in good working order and he isn't. I also think this board is a place where people in diff stages of this monster called IVF can come together and be welcomed whether they are cycling, waiting their two weeks, pregnant and scared whether their beta will double or whether sadly they got a BNF this time around.

Look maybe I'm being too tough on you. I realize you too are just trying to find companionship on this board, and want to hear from women in a similar situation. But if IVF teaches you anything it's that conceiving is a crap shoot and you never know till the nurse calls whether or not you'll get lucky.

I hope you do. I hope all women on this board do. I wouldn't wish this IVF process on my worst enemy.

LostGirl, I can totally see where you're coming from. But from another tubal issues infertility I can understand what was meant by the original post too. Maybe not the best choice of wording...but then we are on a post about IVF after TUBAL and not Primary Infertility so it kind of fits here.

I understand from doing research that it doesn't matter if you're in perfect health with absolutely no issues at all...IVF is just as you described it, a crap shoot. The embryo might implant and it might not....it has to be the exact right timing...etc and that has more to do with luck, faith...etc then your health issues.

I kept thinking it was a sure thing....I only have to deal with my tubal issues....but it's just not true. We're all in the same boat when it comes to IVF, prayers to all to get a BFP :)

I had my tubes tied 12 years ago, I have two daughters and it was very easy for me to get pregnant. (Please do not see this as a brag, I know that I am blessed and thank God every day for my girls) I came into this IVF with the thoughts just as many do..."I have gotten pregnant so easily before, this is going to be a no brainer" WRONG!!! IVF is not natural, the hormones are heck, the ultrasounds, the pressure, the waiting, the nerves, stress, etc... I am now on my third attempt at IVF going through the 2ww as of yesterday, had 4 frozen put back (thawed three, lab thought one looked like it was stalling, pulled another out, and the stalled, though not looking great with lots of fragmentation, still continued to double) Dr. thought it wouldn't hurt to put it back and just see. So it was more like 3.2 embies  is what he said.

Any way, I have gotten off point.

My heart goes out to all of these women here on this board, whether they have had the joys of motherhood or are still waiting for their miracle. Just because you have had children, and easily at that, does not guarantee success. You have to go into this with a very positive attitude but you also need to be realistic. I wish you lots of luck and lots of sticky baby dust.

hi everyone, i too had my tubes tied and actually had a reversal in 02. However, I woke to the doc telling me that it was pretty much unsucessful. (He was only able to reattach one side at 3.5cm) So those of you that just went straight for IVF....smart move. I am currently on my first IVF cycle. After 4 days of stims...my doc said i had 8-9 follicles and on Sat, he said I had about 6. My ER is scheduled for Wed and I am on pins and needles. I took my last shot of Menopur just a couple hours ago. I am struggling with the number to transfer currently. My doc wants to transfer 3 and I feel like I will end up with triplets. He stated that if a woman is under 35, they transfer 2 and over 35 gets 3 usually. I'm really not that much older than 35. I guess we will have to wait and see how many fertilize and what kind of quality we have.

I would go with what your heart tells you. We plan on 2, 3 would be really really pushing it and I don't think that I'd ever agree to it (I'm 34). I read about another person on here (sorry can't think of their name) but one of them split and so they ended up with triplets and only transfered 2....can you imagine if one of those 3 split!!!! YIKES

Our RE has a program where you get 2 tries (one fresh, one frozen) for one price. So we'll do 2 fresh ET and then if that doesn't work we'll hopefully have 2 left for a frozen ET.

Again though...go with your heart :)

Thanks IndieBlue, I have decided to wait until we see how our little embies do. If I have 2 good ones, I will only transfer 2. My ER is Wed and some people don't even have 3 to transfer. So maybe I am putting the cart before the horse. I guess that will be a good dilema to be in actually. Thanks for the advice. I appreciate the response.
