Thank you!

Thanks for all the information! I just started my Lupron shots and they give me a bit of a headache but that is it for now. I am so happy that I only have 3 more days of BCP! I was also on baby asprin and was taking it even though I am allergic to full strength asprin and it was killing my insides.. my doctor said it may or may not help so I stopped it and started on fish oils instead. My accu said that they have blood thinning properties as well. They also put me on Magnesium for anxiety. I am surprised at how little the lupron shots hurt. I don't have a lot of extra fat (5'5" and 102 lbs) so I assumed it would suck, but I just ice the spot for 15 min and then go for it. I started spotting a little today and not sure what that means since I am not expected to get a period for 4 more days. Did anyone else experience a period or spotting once they started Lupron?

Baby dust to all! :D

21bat-- I did my first shot early this morning it wasnt bad at all. I was a little nervious and afterwards i was like thats it. So now I just have to wait and see if they make me feel yucky and bloated over the next few days. Ill know by wedneday im sure so I'll warn you.

amy27-I had to take a lupron shot just once at my ER's office. It wasnt bad. But I did have the WORST headache ever for two days everwards. Now im fine but I only had one lupron shot. (not sure why I hear lots of people do them at home on a more reg. basis)

KatieG- It sounds like you had a lupron depot shot which is a heavier dose than the daily lupron shots. Do you have PCOS? I had the one large lupron depot shot twice this cycle in hopes that it would suppress my ovaries more than the daily lupron shot did. I have PCOS though, so overactive ovaries is a huge issue for me. I may be completely wrong about you though, just an idea! Good luck!

Mulligan---Well I was worried I did have PCOS because I have previously been told I have hormone imbalance but ive always had regular periods even when I wasnt on BC. I had my baseline BW and US and I asked if they thought PCOS was an issue and they said no. Im going to ask them this week to tell me what my estrogen level is. Now im worried about that due to BW in the past year at my reg. doc office and hearing peoples IVF being cancelled b/c of it. I assume if they were worried about it based on my baseline they would have mentioned it. But im going to ask anyway. I think my doc did the Lupron that way to most people. Unless they have other cicumstnces. Thats what it sounded like when they kinda did the overview. We are doing IVF mailnly because of DH factor and because my hormones prob didnt help the sitution any. Thanks for the explaination of the Lupron I apprecite it. I've been wondering especially since i have not heard of anyone else doing it this way.

KatieG- Don't worry too much about your estrogen level. That is an easy one to control. Mine got super, super high before during my first fresh cycle and they just adjusted my meds and it came back down in just a couple of days. No big deal. Good luck to you!

Amy27: I only have 3 more days, too, of BCP. Yayy! I had a little breakthough bleeding and the doc said it was normal....due to the low dose bcp that we are on. So I am sure it is nothing to worry about...but you should call the nurse in the am and ask to be sure.

KatieG: Glad to hear the shots arent too bad. The headaches are gonna suck. I start mine this Friday. So I am anxious to hear your update on the shots this week. :?

Hi ladies!! and welcome to all the newbies!
I was away at a spa with DH for a couple of days- spent way too much $$$,but it was worth it- we connected, practiced baby-making the old fashioned way
so much exciting stuff now that Jan is here! we'll all be crazy with shots and meds
met with the nurse in charge of meds, and it looks like today is my last day of BCP!! hooray after 35days straight then onFriday we do a baseline blood test and ultrasound -then Saturday the 12th, I start my shots -nothing in between
I'll be on Follisitm & Menepur, then at about day 3or so, I add Gannerilix ( an antagonist), so 3shots once a day for me until ER on or about 22nd Jan- all of this is subject to change, of course
I think there is some fear of overstimming, but we'll be on the lookout.
Do you ladies have waivers to sign? I had a stack of paperwork that DH and I have to sign
I am not sure if we will freeze or not - will cross that bridge in another week
RE was very evasive about progesterone shots -I think she did not want to scare me, but I think I already know what is in store with those - i told DH he'd need to give me some shots in the butt later on in the process, and his response was - why can't you do it yourself? hee hee
:)
Well, I'm looking forward to a break from any meds for a few days - I have acupuncture today and then I'll take down the tree - it's so dry I think as soon as I touch it, there won't be a needle left on the thing!
take care
2008 yippee!

Loopie: It sounds like we are on the same track. I stop bcp Tues evening. Start lupron on Friday night after my first b/w and u/s and then I start on Sat with 2 shots of lupron and 2 shots of follistim everyday. Ugg. We are expecting ER on the 21st or maybe even the 22nd.

Sounds like your trip away was exactly what you needed. We got away for New Years...but it was so hectic ...that I think we will do something more relaxing sometime soon. 8)

yep Tammy- I think we're about neck and neck, glad you'll be with me on this- actually, I'm so grateful for this web site and the all my cycle buddies -don't know what I would have done without you!
I've been positive about it all, but coming down to the wire, I am getting a bit nervous....
nice thing about my doc's is that they order all the med, and on friday, i will pick it all up -no fear that I forgot anything - only thing I have to do is clear a spot in the fridge! ( guess it will go were the beer was! )
I've been so preoccupied with all of this, I forgot I needed to register for classes this semester! I went on, and can't figure out how- it's like my brain won't let me think of much else right now -

ok- definitely need to take down the tree now!

Hi Loopie - so glad you guys could practice the old fashion way!!! ;) we are in California and DH's family is without power and were camping at our house - talk about a nice start to my shots!

I am also on Menopur, Follistim and Ganirellix - so it seems like we are on the same protocol, I start my shots tonight. It will be interesting to compare notes on how we feel. RE said ER on 19th or earlier which would put me at 12 days or less of meds. Are you doing Ovidrell?

Well I dh and I went out of town this weekend - our last until our BFP, but I didn't have internet access, so I couldn't post.

Cornybaby: I am so happy that AF showed. Did you use my advice and wear white??

Amy: I am glad you said the Lupron shots don't hurt. I start injections tonight and was also worried about being thin (maybe not as thin as you  ) and extra pain

Loopie: So glad you got to go away and rest. Spend that money on yourself while you still can  I had to sign waivers - I was expecting them. I also had to write down someone I want my embies to go to if dh and I die. I asked one of my good friends to pray about getting them if we die,; hopefully she will not have a problem taking on that responsibility. And I put my gonal-f where the coca-cola cans used to be

Rio:It looks like we have different protocols. I start Lupron tonight for seven days then I stop my bcp, keep doing the Lupron shots and when AF gets here I go in for baseline, b/w... Then I add Gonal-F to the Lupron. Good luck with your shot tonight.

I was curious what time all of you will do your evening shots at? Last cycle I did them at 10pm. I am thinking I will do mine at 9pm this time. Dh and I like to go out a lot in the evenings so I think this will really put a damper on our normal routine. I think I will go rent a movie to watch for after the shot, so I can look forward to something. I also started reading books to help the time go by.

I haven't had any headaches with the bcp, but I think I had them after I started Lupron. Does anyone know if it is ok to take IBUPROFEN? That is usually what I take for headaches.

I am still trying to drink lots of water, but elh! it is so bland... Maybe I should invest in some of the more expensive waters that have a better taste? What are ya'll doing to make sure you drink more fluids? I think I will buy several bottles of one liter water, so I can make myself drink one every day.

Hope everyone has a smooth first week of injections!

Hi WaitingforMia,

I just read your post and thought I'd chime in about the ibuprofen. My nurse told me that I could NOT take anything but the asprin that the pharmacy sent me and Tylenol or Tylenol Extra Strength. I remember when DH and I first started TTC, my gyno told me the same thing. If I remember correctly, it has something to do with bleeding.
I hope this is a successful time for all of us

I plan on doing my evening shots at 8P and when I start the gonal I will do that one at 9A.

Thanks Weezie! You start your injections too tonight :) Are you still on bcp as well? Also do you do your morning shots at work? Or do you not work during that time? Just curious.

WaitingforMia: I take my last bcp Wednesday. And I won't start my morning shots (gonal-f) until the 19th. But I will do them at home. I'm self employed so it makes things really easy for me. However, I am going to see my mother this weekend to take her out to dinner for her birthday, so my handy dandy travel kit will be discretely used 8) while dining with the family at Ruth's Chris. I can't believe I have to do that in a restaurant restroom. Oh well, guess I'm not the first.
