High Estrogen levels before ER...help!

Post by esperanza »

Hello folks,

I've been stiming for 7 days (Follistim); yesterday my ER asked me to stop follistim and just do my Lupron shot. Today, after b/w and u/s they have asked me to stop Lupron and to do a shot of CETROTIDE to prevent ovulation. I have lots of follies and they are at "great" size. However, they don't want me to trigger yet because my estrogen levels are too high. The nurse said that they are at the 4,000 level and they'd like to see them go down to the 3,000.

I have an appointment tomorrow to check my levels. My hope is that they go down quickly so I can trigger. I would love to hear some stories of people who have been in a similar situation. Prayers and positive thoughts are welcomed as well!!!

Ghost...any thoughts?

You probably know this is called coasting. It's hoped to be useful in preventing OHSS in high responders.

I don't care much for coasting. But many clinics do it, and certainly many patients have had success after them.

Interesting fact #1: They have the option of giving you tiny (too small to trigger ovulation) doses of hCG to continue maturing the largest follicles.

Interesting fact #2: If they'd had you on Cetrotide from the outset, there would be no need to coast. They could trigger you with Lupron instead of hCG.

Hello Esperanza,

I have had that experience in August 2007 mine went over 4,000 as well, they had me to stop Follistim and I coast for one day, than the following day I did HCG shot and went in the day after that, they took blood, and retrieved over 20 eggs after recovery they tells me my levels were well over 6,000 and had to cancel my cycle. They froze the embryos and now I'm finally able to use them I am in my 2ww.

I was very very upset, they could have told me before retrieving the eggs, and I could have coast for a few more days before the trigger.
I guess when you only have limited information you have to go with what you know at that time.

Good luck and hope those numbers drop like a falling star. Yes that fast.

Thank you Ghost! I appreciate your response and I found it to be helpful.

Thank you Shelyn! I appreciate your story.

I have an update. My strogen levels went down (I don't know how much because in the midst of the excitement I forgot to ask!), and they asked me to trigger (which I did last night). I'm hoping they don't cancel my cycle, but if they do, I know what to expect thanks to your story. It will be upsetting, but I read some horror stories about women with severe OHSS so I'd prefer to do the transfer when it is "safer" for me and the baby :)

Of course I'm hoping to be in the 2ww by the end of this week  I'll keep you all posted.

Shelyn, best wishes to you with your BFP...Baby dust!

Shelyn--I´m so sorry hun. My heart aches for you  Please take some time to heal and get your energy back. Back home we have a saying "la esperanza es lo ultimo que se pierde" In English, "hope is the last thing you loose." Please don't loose hope...***hugs***
