I am starting my injections on 1/9 and I read about some numbing creams that you can put on to help lessen the pain of the shots. Has anyone tried this? I heard abot EMLA Cream. I guess it's by perscription from a doctor. Anyone use this or another type of numbing cream? Does it help? Or does ice alone do the trick?
Me - 24; DH - 26,
Blocked tubes/hydrosalpinx
1st IVF 1/08, 2/12 - BFP, but empty sac found @ 6.5wks
2nd attempt FET - May
I used it for the IM shots & it helped tremendously. You don't need anything for the SQ shots -they don't really hurt just sometimes sting a little. Get a prescription for EMLA & follow directions. You have to apply a small dab & cover it for 30min to an hour. I just used a sandwich baggy over the top.
Some women swear by the ice, but I've heard it can actually make things worse.
Good Luck & don't worry too much about the shots. They're not as bad as they seem.

I've been taking the prog shot (IM) since Dec 20 and I just use ice to numb it. To date (knock on wood).. I have not felt the needle go in yet. I have very little bruising and very rarely do I feel the medication go in. The nurse told me (since the prog is an oil) that I could place it in warm water and let it thin out a little.

I've not tried any numbing cream. I just ice it down. Then put a warm towel to keep the swelling down but not too long, it irritates the site. After a while, I've just become accustomed/immune to the discomfort.
