I am in the very early stages of starting IVF. I have had one child before but my husband had fertility issues. (Excuse me if I don't have the abbreviations down yet) I am suppose to have the egg retrival in early Feb. I was just looking for someone over 35 going through or will be going through the ICSI. The doctor gave me birth control pills to "shut down" my hormones and I feel terrible. I go back January 2 for ultrasound and to start injections and am completely in the dark on what to expect from this. My husband wants to keep this on the DL so I really have no one to talk to about it especially anyone who has been through it. Hope to get some advise and someone maybe getting ready for the same thing.

ICSI over 35

I know how it feels to be about to start IVF and feeling very unsure about what to expect. My DH had a vasectomy (previous marriage) and so IVF/ICSI was our only option. We will begin our 3rd IVF/ICSI sometime in Feb/Mar. We were fortunate to have a BFP on our 2nd attempt, but sadly had a missed m/c a little over 2 weeks ago.
I know I wish I had been on this site before I started my first cycle, it would have been so helpful and comforting to me. Since I didn't have the site, I read a lot of materials, books and searched the web. There is one website for a clinic in Chicago, that I personally think is very helpful. There are tons of explainations about all kinds of things as well as photos showing the ICSI procedure, embryos at various stages, etc. It is http://www.advancedfertility.com/siteindex.htm
I'm guessing that your Jan 2 appt will be your baseline or LE (Lupron Eval)..? I had an LE about 2 days after AF started after completing the BCPs. That appointment will be a quick BW/US, bloodwork & ultrasound (intravaginal) to ensure that your uterine lining is thin and that your ovaries are not active. The injections are not too bad. The subcu's are essentially painless and not much hassle, you & DH will get the hang of it quickly. You will probably have the option of doing them in the thigh or abdomen. You will likely experience bloating and may experience fatigue.

Thanks Hope, I am scared to death! It's so much money! I am starting to feel better after being on the bc pills for two weeks now. At first it was doing crazy things to my body and my mind 
. Yes the appointment on Jan 2 I am expecting an ultrasound and to be given the meds for injection. Does it ever happen on the first try for anyone? Is it unrealistic to really hope it does happen on the first time. There is so much build up to starting it, I can only imagine how it is to go through it numerous times. Saving up for it financially is crazy stressful. Anyway thanks for your advise on the website and I will check it out and will deffinately get back to you after my Jan. appointment. I wish you much luck in '08 too.

I can tell you from experience that you can have success with the first attempt, and be over 35. Not unrealistic at all!

It can be done! Keep your faith and keep praying. There are others out there too just like me that were successful. You have a rollercoaster ride ahead of you and you will find lots of support here.
Always try to stay positive. (I am here anytime you want to chat).

I did break down and talk to my sister-in-law about this, I had to talk to someone about how nervous and afraid I was feeling. She will respect the fact that my husband doesn't wanted anyone to know in our family. I've been on shots now since Sat. and have another ultrasound tomorrow. My doctor was still not expecting me to produce a lot of eggs but I am so hoping he will be wrong. I can't wait to find out, or more than that for the eggs to be exstracted and in good condition. Not sure if I mentioned before but I bought a book that has been very helpful, I can usually find answers to questions in it or what to expect for the next step. ICSI over 35
With the increase in the age it becomes difficult in getting pregnant especially when one has infertility problems. At the age of 35 it is the right time to start icsi treatment. There are many success stories for the same. You can read more of such success stories at
