Ok, we live in the frozen tundra aka Minnesota. Winters were never really a problem for me but now, I have to pack a whole bunch of things, layer my baby up while he is crying and protesting, layer myself up and then lift the car seat with the baby in it and put it in the car (A total of 35lbs currently). Then, pack the stroller. Get to the destination, take the gloves off no matter how cold it is, take the stroller out, take the car seat out, plug it into the stroller, off we go. We have one of those car seats that can be installed on the stroller so I am having to lift it in and out of our car all the time.
Is it me or having kids is a lot more fun in milder, warmer climates??? I used to ski quite a bit but now I can not do that. All of a sudden going out is a chore!! When I get a cold I don't even bother stepping out (baby usually has it too!)
I also live in MN. Do you have a Bundle Me type blanket thing for the carseat? That's what we used. Then we didn't have to put extra layers on the baby... just had to tuck in an extra blanket or two if needed. Also, maybe you could try a different kind of mitten/glove for yourself. I never had any problems with leaving mine on and taking the car seat or stroller in or out.
I "feel your pain" about having to lift the heavy weight in and out... My baby was 22 pounds at 6 months... I'm only 5'1" and had to lift him and the car seat into an SUV. If lifting everything in and out of the car all the time is difficult, maybe try using a baby bjorn or something. Then you can be on the go and not have to lug around the stroller or car seat.
Just a thought... Hang in there... Next winter you'll love being outside pulling your baby in a sled, making snow angels, etc.
I feel the same way....times two (twins). It feels like a big chore this winter for me to take them out. Despite that I try to take them out somewhere everyday just to give them fresh air and a change of scenery, so to speak. I live in Michigan, not quite as bad as MN, but sometimes close.
What bugs me the most is when I get to my destination I find that both of my boys have taken their shoes and socks off. Now I have to stand out in the cold while I struggle to get them back on. Then of course they take them off in the store and I have to put them back on before we leave again. Not a fun game for me.
ha ha!!!

Hi ladies,
I did take him out for a walk today since it was a balmy 30 degrees outside. I don't complain on days like today. The problem is when it is in the teens or below. It gets chilly and I am a small person, unless I wear layers and big gloves, I myself get real cold. Then I start saying stuff like - "humans don't live in places like this, I would've moved away if I hadn't met you" to my husband.
On the positive side, I don't get periods any more due to bfeeding so atleast I don't have to put up with that too in cold weather
Deepa, that's funny. Yeah, it was a "balmy" 36 degrees F here today too. The sun was shining for the first time in awhile. So I took the boys outside to play in the morning and again in the afternoon. It's easier than packing up a diaper bag, having them take shoes on and off, loading and unloading them while standing in the cold and going in and out of stores. Spring & summer can't come quick enough!
