Excess amniotic fluid and fetal head larger than should be.

Post by Cori »

Hi everybody!
It's been a long time since I've been on the boards and hope that everyone is doing well. I am now 28 weeks pregnant and had an ultrasound yesterday. They told me that I have polyhydramnios which is excess amniotic fluid. My doctor told me that 70% of the time the cause is unknown and not a concern, 15% is because of gestational diabetes that I have been tested for and it came back negative and 15% because of a birth defect. Does anyone or did anyone else have this and could you share your experience please. I am just a little concerned. My doctor said not to worry because every ultrasound has looked good and my quad blood screening was very reassuring but I am still worried.
Also, The ultrasonographer said that the baby's head is growing at a more rapid rate. His head is showing him to be at 31 weeks (3 weeks ahead) but the rest of his body is right where it should be. She said that this is not a concern because his brain measurements appear very normal and that it may just be that he has a larger head. Has this ever happened to anyone?
Thank you so much for any input!!!

:D Sorry, couldn't help it. My dear son has a big head too. I had similar ultrasounds especially towards the end of my pregnancy. Now he is a healthy and energetic 5 mo. old. Just think, your kid will be smarter than others'. :D
Congrats and best of luck!
