I am going thru a FET cycle this round, and I guess I am reading way too much on the internet. I haven't read much POSITIVE information, and I was wondering if anyone had good stories to share, tips, old wives tales, etc.
thanks,
beth

My 4th IVF (FET) worked after 2 unsuccessful fresh cycles and 1 unsuccessful FET. They put back 2 embryos (both lower grade than the first fresh attempt) and both took. I am 11 weeks along now with twins. I never had much faith in FETs but do your research. Does your clinic have good stats for FETs? Lab culture is also importan. I switched clinics after my 1st 2 unsuccessful attempts and it made a world of difference. On my first FET with previous clinic hardly any of the eggs thawed to survive - I had 4 frozen and was left with just one that had only progressed 1 cell to a 5 cell that they didn't bother to mention to me until transfer day. waste of time. This time we took all embryos to blastocyst and got 6 to freeze. The first 2 thawed both survived. It's a lottery but they do work. I am proof and not just one of those "fluke it first time" patients. It's been a struggle!
Good luck!
Dexter

Hi Dexter,
Congratulations on your twins...how exciting! Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.
Thank you for your advice and sharing your story.
I have looked at the stats for my clinic and they really aren't that far off from the rest of the clinics in my state.
I am afraid of the embryos not surviving, I thought they were blastocysts when we froze them. I hate the thought of going through all of this for "nothing".
Best of luck to you and your twins!

Hi Beth,
I am from the UK, and my clinic only do 2 day transfers. I had 10 frozen embryo's, i have done 3 FET's and got pregnant on all. Unfortunately the first 2 ended in miscarraiges, i had further tests and was found to have factor V Leiden a blood clotting disorder. For my third go i followed the same protocol except for adding a junior aspirin a day. I was running out of embryo's only had 4 left so we decided to try defrosting 2 and if only one survived we would defrost the other 2 so we hopefully managed to get 2 to transfer (all that is allowed in the UK). The first 2 defrosted perfectly and lost no cells they were graded as 3/4, 4 being the best. I am now pregnant with twins and all going well. On another note they had been frozen for 15 months. I found FET's much easier and less stressful.
Good luck to you,

beachbaby~ thank you for your story and congratulations. You must be on cloud 9. Enjoy your pregnancy. I am sorry about your miscarriages, I can't even imagine what that is like. I hope I never have to find out. Good for you, you never gave up.
Did your clinic find your blood clotting disorder?
I have been on baby aspirin already.
When/how did you find out the grade of your embryos? Do they tell you that day before they are transfered?
thank you again, and good luck.
deepa~thank you also for sharing. One transfer! and the result is a beautiful baby...congratulations.

The stories here have given me a lot of hope. My clinic in India does 2 days transfer, so practically the embies never each blastocyst stage but beachbaby's case proves the fact, it just have to click.
Worked for me...times 3! Xferred 3 5-day excellent blasts with assisted hatching and all 3 took! Just got done feeding 3 sweet babies! This was our 4th attempt and it is all in God's hands. These were the 3 babies meant for us so my advice is keep trying and praying...your miracle will come too.
Good luck honey on your upcoming FET...think positively!

I am new. This is my first post but I have been lurking around the boards for about a year and a half. I had my first IVF ciyle in August/September (negative). We are going through our first FET and I have started my BCP's. Transfer is scheduled for February 18. I am hopeful and not as nervous as I was for first IVF.
I was wondering what you all thought about ultrasound guided transfers. Does your doctor do them? My doctor doesn't do it and the NP said that doctors have lower success rates with it because patient is uncomfortable due to full bladder and doctor doing too much at one time. Hmmmm.....
Also, what have your doctors said about exercising before IVF/FET?
I have never heard of not using the ultrasound guided transfer. Not only did I have that with my FET, he also did a mock transfer before the real transfer so he could measure my uterus and wanted to know exactly where to place the embryos. Everyone is different, my uterus is tilted to the right so he knew then where he wanted to place the embryos. This was the only time I had this done, other clinic did not do this and this was the only time I got a BFP.
I would be leary about a blind transfer. It is uncomfortable with the full bladder but it does give them the best view of the uterus and helps them to place them in there better. Only lasts 5 minutes at the most so it is all worth it if it works!
I don't think he did cervical mapping, at least I don't remember that term. And my FET's were always less expensive than fresh cycles. I think this last one was around $2000. Helps to have less RX charges.
Have you tried looking into other clinics or are you happy with this one? I stayed with mine too long, I never asked the right questions. My new doc was so much more detailed, did lots of tests before we began to make sure he covered all basis.
So glad I switched but I know not everyone needs to before they get their BFP!
Sonu, yes it is our year! Stay hopeful...and good luck to you!
full of faith, thank you for your great success story!
congratulations to you! Were your triplets from the same frozen batch you used the first time? Do you think your success was due to switching clinics? That is awesome. Enjoy those babies! I think I am going to transfer 3, if 3 survive.
And thank you for your words of support.
joanie, my RE does ultrasound guided transfer, although we are not doing a mock transer this time.
I haven't heard of cervical mapping, is that just getting the "layout" before a transfer?
Good luck to you, too

The cervical mapping is basically a mock transfer. I do feel that I may need to transfer after this FET. I already started the meds so I am going to continue on, but I am a little leery behind this not using an ultrasound and the inflated prices.

I am doing my first FET. The transfer if February 18. Good luck and baby dust to you.
