This msg is specifically for parents who have ICSI babies who are 3+ yrs old. From the beginning of our infertility treatments, my doctor has been advising us to go for ICSI but we have been hesitant due to mixed information available on this treatment. Some doctors feel it's perfectly fine and others pose some concerns of genetic, chromosomal, physical abnormalities. I have read a lot about it on the internet too. I am mainly concerned about the birth, development/growth of the baby, how is the mental and speech related development, esp beyond 3-4 yrs of age. Since you have successful treatments of ICSI and have older kids now [touchwood], I would really appreciate it you could share your experience with ICSI. If you have a child/children through ICSI, pls share your knowledge and experience of how is the growth and development of your child & how old is your child now. I would really.............really appreciate it if you could share this real life experience. We have to start our cycle next week!!

URGENT - Parents of ICSI babies 3+ yrs old

but i have a 6 1/2 and a 3 1/2 year old boys through ICSI... we have not had any mental or speech issues, my 3 1/2 year old is a chatter box, and my 6 1/2 year old is more reserved, they are two totally different kids with totally different personalities... growth wise, my 6YO is always been in the 80-90% for height, and 25% for weight, and my 3YO is 25%height and 5% weight, altho he eats like a horse he's got a great metoblism. they walked at the apporpiate times, and spoke at the right times and were potty trained at 2 1/2 years old..
we have not had any issues at all related to growth and development of our boys... i do think that there are more boys born to ICSI then girls, just because of the sperm differences

Hello glad to be of any help. We used ICSI really as a final resort it was our one and only chance or so I had agreed with my husband although in truth I would have done it all again!! Strangley enough when I mentioned this to Paul about if we had time left to fit in another child I would do it again now he looked horrified!!!
In brief it was our last chance because we had to pay for it, I was approaching 40, and my husbands sperm count was going down alarmingly. At the hospital in Liverpool they explained how it worked one sperm, one egg and really as putting it back it by using a scan it seemed the obvious choice.
I had partly forgotten my concerns but your message made me recall all the worries ie it was so forced that maybe a duff egg or sperm that would with nature never have worked etc etc.
I can honestly say there have been no concerns re Kirstens health/growth touching wood obviously. (She had whooping cough at eight weeks which was scary but due to people not taking up the vacinations and travelling to France etc where it still occurs. Not due to anything about her)
In herself she is just as smart as Jess was at the same age my Mum had concerns she wasn't speaking quite as well however out the blue she is stringing together sentences and is known in all the parent and toddler groups we attend as a bundle of energy!
I had an amneio to make sure there were no problems which Paul thought was nuts when you think of what we had been through and also when he reliased the risk however I could not leave the legacy of a ill child for Jess to have to look after in the distant future. The results were fine obviously and the peace of mind .
She is two years 5 months old and tall for her age we are vegetarians and she eats more and is prepared to try different things than Jessie was.
So in total I would advise you if you have this opportunity grasp it with both hands I wish you luck and hope you have the happy outcome I'm sure you derserve. Let me know it goes
Cate x ps I don't know where you live or which health authority but the Womens hospital in Liverpool where brilliant and I think from memory it cost just under £4000. Worth every penny

Hi again Gori! I have already replied to your PM but thought i woud write on here too.
We had ICSI and it was our only option, as the problem lay with the sperm. We went private and we had 2 embryos transferred, both babies took and it was our first time. now I have 2 1/2 yr old twins!!

I have twin boys aged 10 after 1st attempt at ICSI. I had not heard of anything about development with icsi babies but one of the boys does struggle with school work and is behind his age group and in the past has had speech therapy. I had a traumatic labour and ended up going to 40 weeks and having an emergency c section delivering one 9lb 2oz and one 8lb 3oz so I have always put his problems down to this.
