Really worried - Nasty Pains - Can anyone help please?

Post by Amanda A »

Hi Everyone,
This is my first post on this side following a 6 wk scan on Tues, when everything looked o.k.

I really need your help because I have had some pains since Wed night, on and off, they feel quite like period pains, which really worries me and at times have been very light (just like a dull soreness) but twice have become quite sharp and painful.

I have spoken to my clinic several times over the last few days and they say that this is normal and probably due to the progesterone injections that I have plus the fact that I did decrease my fluid intake recently and that I should up this again.

I can't help feeling that the pains are so like period pains at times that something is going wrong. I can understand what they are saying about ovary pain but this pain seems to be quite low down at times. I had a mc on my last cycle, so this is on my mind anyway, I know many of you will identify with this!

Can anyone help please?

Many Thanks
Rach XX

P.S. Thanks to those of you in the first tri gang who wished me well for my scan, I look forward to joining you when I am a bit more confident!

Hi Rachael

You poor thing. It is such a worrying time these early weeks of pregnancy. I was told that you will experience AF type pains as your uterus is streching and moving. There are so many hormones raging around your body that I think we get worse pains than a normal person who has just got PG. I had pains which were sometimes really sharp and then they just niggled. I am now just over 12 weeks and still get tweaks and twinges as we will all through our pregnancy. Please try not to worry although as you had a mc before you will be worrying anyway. I really hope some of this makes you feel a little better.

You must remember to drink and keep hydrated. Good luck and be positive your scan showed the baby was in the right place and looked ok so hang on to that knowledge.

Love Dagny x

Hi Rachael

Try not to panic!

Im sure its nothing more than the stretching of the uterus - there's so much going on in there at the moment. I, and loads of others on this site had similar worries about these pains but they will go. Like Dagny said, your scan showed all was well, so try to relax. Having said that, its easier said than done, so if you really can't settle and feel worried, go down to the early pregnancy assessment unit at your hospital and they will put your mind at rest.

Love

Rachel
x
(28 weeks today!)

rachael, i am sure the pains are normal otherwise something would have been picked up at your scan on tuesday. i know that nothing about these pains seem normal but remember it is your ovaries, cervix and abdomen that's changing as well as an increase in hormones causing all sorts of pangs.

i am sure something would have shown on your scan and your clinic sound really confident that all is ok. i am 6 wks too and have quite a lot of pain (and feel really sick). it will pass.

take care and look forward to seeing you here when you're ready.

phil x

Hi Rach,

Try not to worry, well worry doesn't stop does it? I also had af pains when I was tmt and also when I was pregnant. I phoned my clinic and mentioned it to them and they say it is normal because of all the changes in your body + the size of your ovaries etc.... I couldn't help but panic because I thought something was happening. I do occasionally get af pains now when I am due on but the hospital say this is normal also. If you are concerned I would go to the hospital and be checked out.

Love
Shell.
33wks 2d pg
xx

Hi Rachael,
Like you, I m/c on my second treatment, and on this one, the pains I got really started about 6 weeks too. Sometimes they felt really bad, and even after I bled they continued. If it's any consolation, things like that are so common they say - my midwife is always telling me that she doesn't understand how ALL women don't complain of this when you think about how your body is changing!
Just keep asking to be checked out if it continues to put your mind at rest if nothing else. Worrying is normal unfortunately!
Take care
Zoe x
24 wks 3d

Thanks everyone, really appreciate you coming back to me so quickly, it's horrible when you get yourself into a panic!

I think it took me by surprise a bit as up until this point, although I have had a few twinges, I really haven't had any real pain since ec. Maybe everything is just kicking off all at once!

I have another scan booked with my clinic next Thursday but if I feel the need, I might go along to my local hospital beforehand.

Thanks for putting my mind at rest. I feel really sick this morning so this has made me more positive!!

Thanks Love Rach XX

Hi Rach

Im sure as your clinic said it is nothing to worry about but this easier said than done. I still get those types of period pains now and im 9 weeks. I just think to myself there's lots of things going on in there that we are unaware about and just try to put it to the back of the mind, but as I said, it isnt easy. Just take it easy rest and keep tummy warm I find this sometimes help..

Take care and carry joining us, we are all here to help

Tracy x

Rachael

Try not to worry too much, there are so many changes going on inside you at the moment that unfortunately the twinges etc never stop - it is probably a mixture of your uterus stretching etc and your ovaries reducing since the treatment.

I am now 24 weeks and still getting pangs, twinges etc, you kind of get used to them, but I am still paranoid!

Just listen to your body, and if you are achy etc just rest up, you are in a very priveleged state of fragility, make the most of it!

Take care!

D x
Rach - if they are sharp stabbing pains could be similar to what I had which was due to the fact that they said my right ovary has still got around nine 2.5cm follicles on it (empty)-it's the size of a small orange!! mine were different to period pains though, in that thye were not crampy but very sharp and very low down, but started off as a very mild stitch-like pain in the side. go to your A&E or your local EPU if you are worried as they will be able to book you in for an u/s scan to check the size of the ovaries. you didn't mention any bleeding which is good sign plus they saw the h/b which reduces risk of m/c to less than 5% so try to stay calm, although I know how difficult it can be. hope things are getting better beckym xxx

Thanks again for the replies girls, really helpful.

Didn't get much sleep at the weekend due to continuing pains, which I am pretty sure is ovary pain now, although nothing like you must have had Becky!!

Lot better today, so will wait until my scan on Thurs & see what they have to say.

Is it o.k. to take paracetemol? I called the emergency line at my clinc the other night and they said yes but I am a bit nervous, don't want to do anything to hurt baby.

Anyone know?

Love Rach XX

Hi Rachael

Yes it is ok to take Paracetamol. My midwife and doctor and fertility team told me I could take it as I suffer with really bad migrains and being PG has made them worse. They can't all be wrong. They said that the taking Paracetamol does not cross over to the placenter. You mustn't take anything with asprin in as that is not good.

Hope this helps

Love Dagny x

Rachael,

Just to reiterate Shell's post almost word for word really - I had AF pains on treatment and through until 10 weeks or so every day. Still get them now occasionally. My clinic told me that it's to do with the amount of stretching your uterus and ligaments have to do, both inside your uterus and outside it - if you get any spotting call your clinic, but if it's just pains I think it's perfectly normal (and understandable when youthink about it!!)

love Sally
(31 + 3) xxx
